If you ride, you've probably experienced at least part of this ride. The unplanned dismount, the bolt, the sudden lurch to the right. Horses aren't for everyone. In Sham's defense, it was a rainy cool day, so THAT just makes any horse feel good. If you buy a horse, buy a horse that suits your riding ability. It's smart to choose a horse you have the skills to work with.
I really love this video, and not only because it's funny. You are so brave to be working with a retired racehorse! I hope you will make more videos with him. :)
I know this could have turned out badly, and I am glad it didn't.......but since it didn't, I am laughing 'till I'm crying. Nick, I hope things are going better with you and Shamrock by now. Whoa Shamrock! ;-)
I know I shouldn't have, but I nearly snorted my coffee through my nose at this🤣🤣🤣 Having had similar experiences with ex racehorses a couple of times, including heading for a six foot gate at full gallop, how I didn't fall off I don't know, when heading towards fencelines, cattle grids etc at full speed, I leaned over and put my full weight and pulled the rein at right angles to the obstacles. Your timing had to be perfect though, depending which stride they were in. I'm not a good rider but had amazing stickabilty!
Similar experience with my boy. I lived opposite race track..one day I thought I'd take him up the road for a casual walk, me, no helmet, shorts, barefoot.. Something snapped in his brain when he saw some on the training track...next thing I was on a terror gallop.. sparks were flying off his shoes, the reins had turned to foam as had he, and we were flying straight into a T intersection..with a huge log carrying truck thundering at me to my right. We were missed by centrermeters.. He jumped a wire fence into a paddock, where I flung myself away from him.. however I was knocked out by his leg / hoof... and woke up with 2 men standing over me looking down at me. They had been working at the track saw the whole thing unfolding and jumped in their car and down the road and into a paddock where I lay. He was the sweetest horse on ground level and I kept him but learned to be real careful where I took him that set him off. You and me both pretty lucky I think.
This is brilliant I work in racing ride out everyday sometimes when they wanna go even we can't stop the fuckers sometimes haha fair play for sticking with it mate it's not easy
I lived this moment the first time I rode a Shetland pony. That little bugger was fast…luckily my fall was closer to the ground…but I landed on top of a decorative boulder in someone’s yard. Then I hit the ground after bouncing off the boulder. I loved that crazy pony.
To all saying he did something bad, I think he rode it out well. He was asking to slow down and wasn’t pulling on the bit or screaming. Horses bolt and one little wrong step and your off on the ground sometimes, it happens. Hopefully all is still well
I know it is so wrong to laugh but omg, that was funny..... I think maybe a running martingale, maybe a kimberwick bit or just rip into him and stop him would be better, Where you okay, was poor Shamrock okay...

I’m sorry but this was sooo funny, it’s no good shouting at a horse, the only way to stop one is to pull back on the reins, if they are a bit wild pull back harder to pull his jaw into his neck then he’ll stop, rising like that with your legs flapping around makes him think you want him to go faster, he was at a slow canter when you fell, hope he never goes into a full gallop with you.

And... that's why you don't buy retired race horses, although I'm sure he can be trained It'll just take a while.
Why don't you buy retired racehorses? Here in America there is a HUGE demand for retired thoroughbreds off the track. They go into second careers some being ridden by kids as young as 2. It's all about training. This horse clearly hasn't had any training except for race training in the video, and the rider has clearly never dealt with a thoroughbred off the track either. Please educate yourself. Thanks.
It would help if you didn’t shout and lean back not being mean or anything no hate towards it but shouting does not help
only a idiot would jump off a horse at that speed
So dumb could have just rode him out and he only learned woah means go and pulling the bit like he was used to so he went back to pull is run let's go made my head hurt
Why the shouting?
Three days with me he'll never run off again I promise you
What's the trick?
@@clips4fun2024 first off change the bit in his mouth
You should not be allowed anywhere near horses!!!
Thank you for your kind advice. You might want to get that exclamation mark key looked at, it appears to be sticking.
