Another great video Matt! Target achieved with the Dabs! Those Turnstones are fascinating to watch - love the way they use their beak to open Razor shells, and then stab the Razorfish to make sure it's dead! Looks like great weather there - howling wind & piddling down here today. Thanks Matt - stay safe & well! 🎣🎣👍👍
Nice one Matt, I had a green one at Hythe last year, very strange, nice watch as always, been trying to get off the south coast the last few weeks to try for some flatties, wind keeps pushing me north south/east coast. I had a bait fridge freezer ( till it died) I kept the fresh lug in a cat tray with sea water, I also collected bottles of sea water each time I went to the beach and kept it in the fridge, changed the water daily and kept the lug alive for weeks, had to check morning and night to take out any that had died. Best way I found to keep them. All the best 🎣👍
At first glance, that first "dab" had a very similar shape to a young Halibut. I know some have been caught by trawlers around the point. Just a thought.
Used to fish here and Hythe Folkestone Pier every week back in the 70s/80s loads of cod etc' with the likes of Alan Yates John Darling etc' on the next peg , happy days
Ever fished the famous Dungeness . Loved the run through the box, very useful. I’ve got that T bar disgorged and a long nosed pliers too. Have you ever thought of packing out the backing line like fly fishers do? The cost of braid is so expensive that it might make sense. I’ve thought about it on my second reel but never done it. I take one braid spool and a spare mono. Keep ‘em coming cheers Clive 👍
@@catchacow1927 yup, and you never see someone on YT bad hook a whiting through the upper jaw. Maybe there are concerns that dealing with deep hooking, bad hooking and foul hooking would trigger an animal welfare algorithm. I know there are some channels that now won't show baiting up after reaching the monetization thresholds.
I'll have to do a video on 'tanking' fresh lugworm which I used to do way back in the 80's. Could keep lug for weeks in sea water. Had bait 24/7 and it worked too. (Didn't work with white rag -they would die )
Nice video Matt , never fished Dungy, the days of a cod are long gone and the long journey for pins and dogs doesn’t quite do it for me 🤔 but the thought of a dab and the wildlife may just drag me down there. Thanks for sharing
Go for it . Just keep an eye on the weather forecast and have a plan B for another nearby mark. When it's unfishable it's hairy to say the least, not a prob though ,the curve of the coast always leaves you with some alternatives.
Fished here many times in my youth, (1990’s), I remember we would catch a full string of mackerel almost every cast, we’d follow the shoal down the beach, was insane. We used to joke the fish were radio active… might explain your weird dab haha.
Good video cobber i used 2 keep my lug in wet seaweed would stay fresh & alive i would get off bus at London rd get weed and wallk home to clyde rd .Happy catching from AUSTRALIA Nick
Like the shots of the bird Matt. Camera working very well there and a productive day of fishing. What's going on with your tackle box? 🤣 Is it a small beta? I bought a Tactix 15" Compartment Organiser fits well inside and only cost a fiver from Wickes 👍
I really enjoy your videos although this one made me a little sad. I remember as a lad dreaming of fishing the mighty Dungeness after reading about the huge cod catches in Sea Angler. Now it’s reduced to getting excited about a few dabs and my beach fishing days are over.
It’s when we all turn to lrf we have a problem ! It’s just so warm with sea temps at 10 degrees , that said the smoothound/skate fishing should give us a boost in spring
If there are no fish, feed the birds.🐦🤗 Congrats friend, I watched it without getting bored, it's a relaxing and nice video. One day, you will fish in crystal clear waters off the coasts of Turkey, maybe not yet, but one day..✌️🐟🐠
i love this channel , even though i do my fishing mostly artifical lures ( especially jigging and light rock fishing) there are great hints and tips in this video.
Great tip DONT throw away the blown lug. Dry them out on paper cocoon in elastic put on baiting needle Dabs adore smelly old lug.. A lot of time over the fresh stuff..

Yes I will do that - thanks 😊
Definitely, it's not something I've seen covered by anyone.
@@George_Salt if it’s swallowed the hook, most videos say “back in a bit” and skip it.

where would i buy a starter 2 rod reel tripod set from please ,will be fishing southend canvey ? will be starting as a new sea fisherman
Local tackle shop , I’d consider a continental rod set up for a beginner too. Consider second hand too. Fixed spool reels 👍 check Facebook groups

Did you really take a 23cm fish ?
Yes
Wot no dogfish !!!
I did have one and the guy next door was getting loads, interestingly just at the High tide point
If you were in France or Spain those small fish would not be going back. They would be fruit de mer or soup.
Jeez that’s a sad state of affairs
nuclear dab
Don’t ! I’ve got three thumbs now

Made it to 3 minutes. Had to switch off due to the annoying music.
