    I’ve fished the very same mark, next to the Elizabeth Jane charter boat just behind you. I find it productive for Bass if you can cast to the area where the bottom of the shingle slope levels out to sand/mud. . Never had a big Bass there but sizeable.
    Good video 👍

      Thanks Andrew. Yes - I've had a good few sizable 'schoolies' here, but nothing huge myself.

    Love the detail you put in your videos Rod. Everything from a map of the location and it's various marks, tackle, bait and tactics on how to catch at various states of the tide. I think your channel is a must watch for any novice, even more experienced Anglers can learn a few tips from you. Keep up the good work, and tight lines

    Lovely session Rod, enjoyed it so much. I have been hearing about Dungeness for many years now. So famous in the past as the winter cod venue. I hope to get over and fish this iconic place in the near future. Look forward to your next video. Tight lines..

      Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for saying so Jerry. Still a popular venue, but bass are now the main target. Will be fishing it this winter, after a considerable time away. I think it will be dabs I'll be after, unless by some miracle the cod return.

    That was always my favorite place to fish Dungeness . was a member of the club so the key was super handy , had some nice bass from there . Great video again and thanks .

      Thanks for watching and commenting again @ Arfabiscuit. I hope to make better use of my key this year - cod willing.

    Love the videos, that wind was howling through, it looks like quite a walk on the shingle with all youre kit.

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes Ignacio - I thought about reducing the wind noise in the video, but decided against it, since it wouldn't be representative of how strong it was. It doesn't look it from the waves (or lack of breakers), since this is the 'sheltered' part of Dungie in a south-westerly. I try not to squeeze in between other anglers, if at all possible, so it was a bit of a hike from the shingle haul track towards the Lifeboat Station. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    Well done mate .I think dogfish are a good bit of sport and beautiful little fish which I love catching (not when targeting thornies).brilliant videos mate you are a master of your art and express it perfectly on all your videos. Looking forward to the next one

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for that Chris. Dogfish do pull back; which is welcomed on an otherwise poor day Its when they dominate a session, to the exclusion of your target species, that they sometimes become a pest.

    Great video again Rod.
    I would have assumed that braid would be better to use because of the lower diameter thus less resistance to the wind and tide. Please can you explain to a novice like myself the reason for your choice to use mono?

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for that Mark. Despite the lower diameter, braid seems to catch the wind more when casting, when its from the side. Winding down to the lead tends to move the lead, since there isn't any stretch in the line - so bigger leads are needed to hold bottom than when using mono. Just more difficult to work with.

    a wind sheild for the camera would be a very good idea rod ,,

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use action cameras and haven't got round to rigging something up for that yet - wind noise can be annoying, but at least you get a feeling for what the conditions were like.

  • @deanmc178
    @deanmc178 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    ive fished here , a shelter would be worth the extra bags to at least get out of the wind ,,some good fish caught here

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A good idea, but I'm not too keen on using shelters - even when night fishing I'd rather go without, unless I know its going to rain hard or be freezing cold! Thanks for watching and your suggestion.

    Never fished The Boats. Will have to give it a go. It didn't look as if there were many anglers about. Was it busy? Apart from the wind, it looked a lovely day. Useful tip about swapping braid to nylon when it's windy. I tend to be a bit lazy and fish braid all the time. I need to get out of that habit. A littler surprised that you used 25lb "all through" with no shock leader. Don't they say that you should use 10lb b/s for every ounce of weight used.? Excellent video, as always, and looking forward to the next instalment, as always. Stay safe and stay healthy. Cheers. Ken

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks Ken. It was a nice day but the wind cut right through me - wished I had more clothing on, despite it looking warm! I passed quite a number of other anglers to fish away from them; the wide angled lens makes others seem further away. A few turned up just before high tide and set up both sides of me, but not too close - so there was still a fair amount of room.
      Braid is great in a head wind and even better if from behind; however in a side wind and currents / tidal pull in the same direction, its not as effective, and you need much larger leads to hold bottom, than if you were using mono.
      The leader issue is a good one. For beach casting, I wouldn't use braid less than 50lb without a shock-leader. Mono is different having more give. With very stiff rods and power casting, then 10lb per once weight is a good guide to follow. With continental rods and an overhead thump, rather than OTG / pendulum casting, then there's no problem (and many advantages) to not having a shock leader, if your mono mainline is strong enough and you are not trying to cast to the moon; that means 25lb and above, unless you only intend to fish short. 15lb line needs a shock-leader. I know its not sea fishing, but you won't see match anglers casting out 3oz+ feeders across the Trent or Wye with 30lb shock-leaders.

      Hi "Rods". Thanks for your informative and helpful reply. The comment about 3oz+ feeders on the Trent or Wye is well made. Cheers. Ken

      Hi Jasam - thanks for watching. At Dungeness - Galloways on the west side and anywhere from the boats to past the lifeboat station on the east. I've not done that well at the boil; however I've not fished there for a good few years, so need to give it another go.

  • @chrischaralambous286
    @chrischaralambous286 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video Rod. I usually fish Dengemarsh when I go to Dungeness. Do you get better results at Galoways as I have never tried it, and is it less busy? Thanks again for sharing. 👍

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Chris. Galloways has been poor recently - I've caught the last couple of times I've been there, but not enough to justify a video yet! Has been busy when I've been there, since it hasn't been open to the public before 4:30pm that much over the last couple of months. Waiting for right conditions and obviously when they're not firing!

      Thanks for the idea @TheWs25 - will do at some point, after covering a wider range of venues, fishing situations and different species. The rods here are Grauvell Teknos Surf XT Due 4500 and reels Penn Affinity 7000.

      Good shout Laurie - they normally oblige by curling their tails round towards their heads if you grab their tail and head at the same time, then they won't be able to scrape you with their sandpaper like skin. You've got to time it right though! Thanks for watching and commenting.
