- This week I answer some of the questions I get the most about my lifestyle; living alone in the Dutch countryside, in a rural cottage. I also do al lot of planting, it's time to finally prepare for summer by making my front porch pretty with flowers, even though the weather is currently still quite bad. So many people romanticize living alone and remotely. It's good to hear someone speaking from the heart.
We chose to live in a cavehome far enough from 'civilization' to see people only when we choose.
As you said, nature can be brutal. My life is all about my home, my garden, my dogs, and my husband.
You are NOT old. We found each other in our 50s.

Old at 30! OMG. First time I hear this. My grandma's 98😂 and independent. This lifestyle is not for everyone. Most people would go crazy but I would go crazy in the city too. People have to find their place in this planet.

Im totally new.
I live in the USA and where we live in Washington state it rains a lot so if the sun is shining and somebody talks about sunshine, then it starts raining so I called the rain liquid sunshine, and then it goes away quicker. I catch the rain, but I love to dance in the rain so it doesn’t bother me so much.❤😂

We can't talk about the sun, it's almost like you can scare it away 😂 But I'm the same, I love the rain, I just don't like it for the animals and it's sad it ruins a lot of the farmland. Maybe I should dance in the rain sometimes, it will probably give it something positive. Thank you for your comment ❤️

Nikky I believe the life style that you've chosen for yourself is fine if you're happy. And you seem to be very happy with your life. Please do not concern yourself with negative comments you may get. If you are happy and content with the life you've chosen God Bless You. Be happy with your life. For right now it is right for you. Just make sure you have a drainage hole in your new porch pots. Im sure you know what you're doing. Take care of yourself and be happy girl.

The beach area is beautiful. We live within walking distance of the Atlantic Ocean which is so serene and gorgeous unless we have hurricane. Hopefully the Lord will Bless us and keep us safe. Hi Nikky. No noise, no people, not busy sounds like heaven to me. What do you mean you are not young anymore? You look like you are around 20? Well, I am 61 and I lived all my adult live alone, which means without humans, but with animals, but I never felt or feel lonley. I can relate to everything you said about nature and its beauty and its dangerous side. The flood 1 day after christmas here stopped right behind the house a have a flat in, every new rain made me very nervous, that were tiring weeks. Once in my garden a heavy thunderstorm cut off half of my walnut tree which thankfully fell to the other side than the hut I was covering in with my dog. Your flower arrangements look very beautifull, a drainage is important otherwise the flowers wont last long. You also can put herbs on your porch for cooking and for tea, chamomille, parsley, basil, thyme and so on, good for you and good for insects. By the way: leap year is cold year, thats an old pawn role. Of course I want to see the building of the guinnea pig enclosure, I just work on a green house. Yes, I have a question: What did you study and do you work in that field now or how do you make money? I guess-hope-pray that you dont eat/ slaughter your chickens, pigs and so on.... or do you? To me you explained your opinions and feelings about your lifestyle very comprehensible and the way you do the videos is more than good so dont worry about those things. Best wishes, WH

I love to hear that you can relate to me, that always means a lot. Sounds like you were very lucky with the walnut tree, nature can be so powerful and scary. The idea about the herbs is great, I will definitely look into it. I did a bachelor in Art, Communications and Photography and I do some work as a freelancer. And don't worry, I see all my animals as pets. You might think t-h-i-r-t-h-y years are an enormous amount of time, and of course it is, but you have to look at it in relation to your whole lifespan, and thats about 90, so 60 more years to come. And guess what: the best is yet to come. You have a deep soul, maybe an old soul, I dont know yet, since I dont know you good enough to say so. Of course it can be scary to talk about feelings and emotions, especially not knowing whom you are talking to in the internet. More important in my opinion than being public about all of your feelings is that you are true and honest to yourself about your emotions and needs and you seem to have a very good introspection and capabilities to analyse yourself. Your studies sound interesting but I cant see, what kind of job one would do with it. Journalism regarding art, photojournalism maybe for nature, working in a modern museum as a curator or be an artist yourself? I am relieved your animals will grow old under your care! I was very apalled once as a female homesteader spoke about her animals as "meat". She touched a cows head and caressed it and than said: This is were we raise meat. How disconnected from empathy and sympathy she must be? So- did your announced rain came today? Here it is raining since late afternoon, so I couldnt do any work in the garden but had a long walk with my dog in a forrest before. Greetings from the central coast of California. I live in a small costal village in a rural area between Los Angeles and San Francisco California. Though the town gets many tourists because we have many hiking areas and beaches to enjoy. |’m surrounded by 500 acres of open space. ❤ My village was started by Swiss and Italian dairy farmers in the mid 1800’s. They have been wonderful stewards of the land and 90% hasn’t changed. Does your family farm the land with crops. Enjoyed my first visit to your channel🌻🌻

Lovely home, beautiful flowers, fur babies and chickens...and a very beautiful and genuine soul you have. I too live alone in a small older cottage on 3 acres in a rural area in VA with my fur babies and chickens, not quite as secluded as I would like but it is home for me now. We are much the same enjoying nature, building things, gardening, making soap, candles, bread and such, never run out of projects. Alone does not mean lonely; you are never alone when you enjoy your own company and find peace with your surroundings. My 2 horses have passed for several years now to green pastures in the sky, I miss them very much and would love to get more one day. I am glad I clicked on your video today.

When you take a plant out of a pot that was at the store or wherever you bought your plant make sure you break up the root system so that it can re-grow and reformulate to the new pot that’ll help you and if you put gravel in the bottom of the pot that you put your plant in that’ll give it enough roomfor the water and you probably should put a hole in the bottom of each pot so the water can drain. You got this❤

When someone ask if you’re lonely, just say I have a cat on my lap, I can’t be lonely! 💁♀️ I’m retired and I live alone with my cat in the country. I love the the clean smell of the morning, the birds filling the trees with there songs. Your hanging flowers are beautiful! And a great idea to screw them on the rail, so the cats can’t knock them off. The chickens told you how much they like the flowers too. Fran

Hello Nikky from the UK ☺. I've just found your vlog this evening, and what a gentle, kind and sensitive channel. Your love of nature and animals is outstanding. I lost my beloved husband Terry in December 2023 after 54 years together. He was my love, my life and my soul mate. I'm 71 now on my own for the first time. Although I do have my Kits Tally 🐺 and Luna 🐱that are giving me a reason to get upon the morning. They are indoor cats with an outside cattery in the warmer weather months, I am currently finding solace in nature and my garden, which we both loved, but I miss him so much. Add amended compost and fresh soil to a planter when adding your flowers. Drainage holes at the bottom of all pots (hanging or otherwise) will prevent root rot. Your plant choices are simply lovely. Enjoy!

Hi Nikky! Another great sunday video. The flowers really look nice, its amazing how much flowers can beauty to anything. I see the large planter of flowers is thriving too. You are getting alot of rain, ( this coming week, we are expecting highs of 90-100 for 5 straight days! Which is odd because up until now we have had a slow start to summer, with many chilly nights. I am lucky I have air conditoning, and in my car). I find the weather has changed alot over the decades, its much more unpredictable. I too get scared and I live in a house in the city, but when I hear the sirens going off with a tornado warning, we run to our basement, for you , you maybe can go to your moms house and that would keep you safe. Everything you described about country living is what I want so badly. With my daughter wanting to possibly go to university here in Michigan, I will stay here, but my goal is to one day live in the south where it is rural and QUIET. It is so noisy where I live. I truly believe that when your mate or soulmate comes along God will provide if it is meant to be. Perhaps you may meet someone who also is a homesteader and loves what you love. You are a natural beauty, and very young. You may run into that person at a market someday. who knows. One of the DIY projects I love the most was the egg holder you made, its a nice decorative piece for the counter as well as being a funtional item. You can tell just through the screen how this life makes you so very happy. Your animals are lucky to have you. I can't wait to see the start of the guinea pig enclosure. I sure hope the rain lets up for you this week!

Hi Nikky! I just viewed this and I had to subscribe. You are lovely and so fortunate to have such a quiet and peaceful life and have animals and family near by! Make sure those pots have drainage holes. If they don’t, your pretty plants will drown and die. Drill holes in the bottoms. Good luck!

Great video, thank you for sharing about your life. I enjoy being alone too and with my animals. I have a cat with skin allergies like your kittie and was having to take her to the veternarian once a month for a steriod shot until I found a treat for her immune system. It's called Aller-Immune Bites by Zesty Paws. It has really helped her and she doesn't seem to be bothered by her allergies at all anymore. I get it at Tractor supply but I've seen it on Amazon.

Just found your channel. Girl, I'm with you with the simple things! My partner makes soap and does wood work and I do all the gardening, cooking, baking, knitting, crochet, stitching etc! We both do DYI projects together inside. We live in a cottage house in Nova Scotia on two acres. We moved in last year. It has been my life long dream to live the country life. The property was neglected but the house was well maintained. I spend a lot of time outside too. I have a channel too. I'm on a hiatus right now with it but will be back to making videos at some point soonish. Anyway, I am enjoying your channel!

I loved this video! Hi from California, sunny and 80 F (27 C). I'm similar to you, love the slower pace and spending time with my animals and in nature. Thank you for sharing the beauty of your life and your land and also talking about things that may be potential downsides. I would love to live where I could drive into town if I wanted to see people or maybe go to a coffee shop or bookstore but then be able to go back to the quiet of my land and my animals. In this video I loved the shot where two of the horses and one of the chickens were under the cover of the rain and the other horse was standing in the rain! One of my horses used to stand with his head under the cover and his butt in the rain, so silly

As many have said, put a small drainage hole in each metal pot. You don't want to have root rot. Water sparingly.

I live in a fairly small house a little bigger than yours it’s 1000 ft.² and I live in Southern California and I live right in town so we do have a lot of traffic but I do have a little yard to go with my little house and I do a lot of gardening also and fairy projects. I've just found your channel and I love your lifestyle :) I live very similarly in Hungary :)) I really really enjoy gardening, flowers, vegetables, some fruits trees and bushes. I have two dogs so I need to be mindful about my plant placements, they always steal vegetables :D I am planning to move sometime so I can have some horses, they are my fave since I was little :) your animals are all gorgeous and they look very well cared for!
we have a saying here about rain (but it is true for everyone): we should be happy about rain because it will be raining even if we are upset about it :D
just a tip: for your plants which hang in the metal containers on the railing: you should make some holes on the bottom of them, most plants do not like sitting in water (like the running plants you had in them before adding the flowers) :)

Your life sounds wonderful and idyllic. Really enjoyed your video, and the cottage with its flowers and animals all looks so lovely. I live in a down town city area, but try and create the most peaceful existence possible, by finding nice parks and trails to walk in and taking life quietly.
( btw, Ive heard the plastic cone, that you have on your kitty, described as am Elizabethan collar, owing to its likeness to the Tudor dress style during the Elizabethan age in England ; however , I always like seeing animals wearing them, because it means they are cared for and loved. ♥ , and so maybe you can think of your kitty as royalty as well. )

You have such a lovely place there and beautiful horses that needs to Grace fresh grass. Why don't you put them out in the grassy pasture or even in your yard. They have no grass not even a blade of it where they're at now thank you❤... truly you are blessed. By myself live alone and love it I've ever known really was the countryside and I wouldn't trade for the city for nothing in the world peace and quiet fresh air can't be beat❤.. thank you for the tour it was really enjoyable keep them coming❤ from the USA
Thank you! They are on grass now, but this type of horse gets sick from to much grass and they can even die from it. They always have access to to as much hay as possible, they can eat as much as they want. Just not grass. I have an old wheel barrel that has a crack in it that’s really bad after looking at your wheelbarrow I think I’m gonna try to put it in my garden and fill it full of bunch of containers and use it for a raised bed

Our cat had bad allergies, so we changed her food. Now she doesn't have them anymore. You might want to check the food that you're feeding your cat our vet. Diagnosed her and told us all the things that she was allergic to most of it was in her food
Unfortunately we already have her on special food from the vet. But thanks for the tip, it’s always very welcome ♥️
I'm new . Hello from Kentucky. Wow you have a big horse. I love them but I'm always afraid of them. Only the draft size.and the thorough breds. I grew up riding free on quarter horses. My two youngest kids have ridden hunter jumper here but long term saddle seat. I want to be in countryside too. Nice to meet you. I have 4 dogs 3 birds
