Living a Minimalist Nomad Life to Save Money ~ My Financial Struggle
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 20 พ.ค. 2024
- I was BROKE! Because of my financial struggles, I became a minimalist in 2008. Living a minimalist lifestyle has taught me that living with less helps me save money. Being over 40 and just turning 50, I was getting close to retirement age and needed to increase the money saved. My husband and I decided to sell everything we owned and embark on living a nomadic lifestyle. A minimalist nomadic lifestyle is not easy. However, I save money for retirement and have found that living with less is a key to my happiness. Nomad life over 40, and extreme minimalism is the choice I’ve made to save money.

Money may not be everything. But life is pretty hard without it.
So true. Thank you for your beautiful videos. They bring me peace.
Please note that money is not evil. It is the love of money that is the root of all evil
💯
Agree
Very important distinction!
YES!!! That detail makes all the difference - it's the LOVE of money, not the money itself - tremendous difference in a person's life and character
I was coming to the comments to say that!
I have naturally been frugal my entire life. Wasting money on "Stuff" has always felt ridiculous to me. Peace of mind is not having debt.
You are so right
Living debt free is freedom
My husband and I decided to change our life by selling our house in Canada and becoming nomadic almost three years ago. We now own a small place in Mexico where we can live simply and a camper van in Canada to explore North America in summer. We also housesit and enjoy the adventures that brings as well. I have learned to need very little and am very, very happy with less.
Your life sounds beautiful!
I am right smack in the middle of huge changes in my life. Lots to ponder.
Thank you for sharing 🙏
@@robertashaffer3950Everything will work out for you! 🙏
Sounds wonderful, rich and varied.
That's incredible! We must be cut out of the same cloth. 😊
What are the costs of owning a house in Mexico. As a fellow Canadian in Victoria I am drowning under household debt.
If we have nothing but peace we have everything ❤
❤
You own nothing and be happy, right?
Still need to live..
My husband and I moved our family from an expensive area cross country to a defunct Birch farm on northern Lake Michigan.
It is like our fresh start. He has a new job here and has has recenty started a microgreens farm side hustle that is doing so well, he is building a green house now to supply year round local produce, very much in demand with grocers, restaurants, and caterers.
The kids have an acreage to tear up, and a pond to hunt frogs in.
There is a glamping cabin that came on the back end with the property as well as a farm house. It's not fancy but the kids have loved helping to care for our chickens... We might start a UPick orchard soon for seasonal tourists.
So far so good.
We're still trying to fit all the old junk into the new farmhouse... Or have a giant yard sale for it - So a work in progress, but moving forward fearlessly - because with the sale of our old expensive home, we could pay cash for this one.
No mortgage!
This we hope will become a generational property we can develop for extensions of our family...
I love vlogs like yours that show the simple beauty of living closer to nature than concrete!
Living it with you as we dream!
PS now I want sheep! 😆
Connie you look 30 years old. You have such beautiful skin. Thank you for sharing your journey with us. ❤
❤❤❤
Thank you for the compliment!
Money is not the root of all evil, it is the love of money, making it a god.
Living within your means gives a certain peace. Less is more.
❤
I did this, enjoying the freedom and lack of responsibility, then I got diagnosed with cancer and that need for stability and security were overwhelming. To get a place and unravel my nomadic world took time and energy I didn't have. I have secured a tiny apartment and realise that truly life happens whilst we make other plans. A contingency is a must for such things always.
🙏
Praying for you
Blessings to u ✨️💛 ✨️
We sold our home and bought a 5th wheel RV . We traveled across our country and saw wondrous places that would not have been possible had we stayed in our house. Sometimes we work camped to ‘get ahead’. Our health and age (82 and 75) has stopped our traveling. We live near our children and still live in our RV. I’ve no desire for a house, but we are home
I can empathize with the heavy feeling in the household, my parents were both unemployed at the same time. It was the late 1960's. Life was hard, but my parents just kept going. We had to eat stuff we didn't like, only had a few outfits, etc. etc. Eventually, my parents found work, and we moved to a less than desirable apartment that Mom and Dad kept spotless. I can only look back in admiration at their resilience. RIP Daddy.
As I watch this, I am picking up the last things from my apartment in Colorado. I am keeping the necessary items only and moving with a friend temporarily. I am not longer attracted to material stuff.
I hope this is from choice and not necessity.
Bless your heart. It is amazing what you can do when you have to. My husband had a heart attack after that 2008 downfall. He was a builder and it all collapsed around us. I applaud what you are doing. Cut the strings and BE FREE.
I think it would interesting to find out how you earn money now for basic living expenses. (Not how much you make...that's not our business...but are you self-employed, or take day jobs, etc.)

Great Question! I'll make a video about that. Thanks!
That is an amazing story. So many of us went through a very similar scenario in 2008. I became a single mother of three children that year, and I lost my job and almost lost our townhome, but managed somehow to forge ahead.
These experiences build resilience and allow us to hone in on the things that are most important to us, so the lessons learned you can say are worth the struggles!
What a fascinating adventure to you are on now the world freely - it sounds amazing. Very inspiring!😊
My husband and I are about to embark on the nomad life. He's retired 2 years now. And, we'd just like to spread our wings for a while. Our boys are grown and live their own adult lives, so we have nothing holding us back anymore.
Following you for a good while, this is the most empathetic one yet. I felt calm after watching and listening to you.
I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
Living a frugal life is critical to have a financially stable life. Living below your means, save and invest the remaining, rinse and repeat. Never stop.
There are many points here to learn; the importance of NOT living beyond one's means being quite high to the top I believe.
100%!
Agree…and to have a 6 month emergency fund for living expenses. Once I had that in place, I relaxed about the future.
You look amazing for a 50 year old. You have such beautiful and youthful skin. You have a slim athletic figure and a very calm and philosophical attitude to life. You're living my fantasy life! Each of your videos is an adventure that I can't wait to share with you. ❤
50 is not that old lol.
Oh my! Thank you for the lovely compliment.

You share a lot of wisdom! Society has messed up a lot of people bombarding us with things we “need”. All that said, I’m not sure how inexpensive it is to travel the world given the cost of flights etc. One must be working remote full time and constantly adapt to time zone changes and still be productive. We can all find ways to let go of “stuff” but my husband and I need to be working full time for the nest egg we’ve worked hard to add to over decades. Love love traveling but full time travel is not possible till retirement and then there’s the dreaded healthcare costs of one needs it…. Best wishes
Love your wise & peaceful content. Thank you for these videos❤
I'm 54yr old woman..I've lived a nomadic life...I've lived in alternative types of dwellings..camper..houseboat..
etc. And I live very frugally ..I still struggle with making enough money at times..and it can be very disheartening..but I too am at another crossroads in my life and looking for a new adventure and opportunity..thank you for sharing your story..it reminds me that we all have our own paths in life to find and follow and learn from!
Always enjoy your uplifting messages and practical advice. Finding a life that is comfortable and within your financial means is so important. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much Connie for sharing your story. You are such a warm and loving example of resilience and what is important to value and prioritise. This is such an inspiring episode filled with quiet wisdom.
I loved hearing your story, it really made me think! Thank You for sharing !
I Am going to retire to the farms of PA in time. Thank You God And Universe!
Thank you so much for sharing ❤ You are an amazingly strong person. I need to be following your lead. Being frugal actually makes you so much more appreciative of what's important 💓
I do that with my partner since 2015. Now we are at the point to get a tiny home for ourselves in the aerea we found out to be the best for us. Enjoy the journey! 💕👍
You are blessed that you have been able to do all this while still young and healthy. I love seeing the beauty of nature in your videos.
We all usually go through a breaking point in one way or another and when we eventually get through it we are usually wiser and stronger in one way or another our life’s remind me of the broken china teapot a treasured possession it was never used for tea again but it was clued back together by its owner and used as a plant 🌱 pot which was put on display to be admired by many but when used as a teapot it was only put on display and used once a year on Christmas Day’ life can be different after circumstances but so much more beautiful and meaningful thank you Connie for this lovely video
You are right. There is no right or wrong way to live life. It takes a lot of courage to do what needs to be done to survive and move forward. What you have done through your difficult times takes a lot of courage. Congratulations on being so free of material attachments!
You are amazing, Connie, thanks for opening my mind and even blowing it up a little 😊
May you enjoy your fruits in peace ❤. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Connie, love your channel and am so glad to have found it! I want to live exactly like this and I also struggle with the effects of a head injury. I think I’m going to love following you. Thank you. ❤
Thanks for sharing your beautiful story. It is very inspiring to me. I am trying to get rid of the extra "stuff" in my life.😊
This is the first time you have popped up on a recommendation and I am so glad I took the time to listen. My season is cold and miserable and I hope that my choices start to mould the life that I want in retirement. At 59 your words designated. Thank you.
Oh my goodness your LIFE!! With all of your moves and experiences even til now, I thought...."How are you not 110 yrs old??" Thank you for being such a beautiful inspiration!
😂 Somedays I feel 110 years old.
The love of money is the root of all evil. Money is not evil. Just wanted to clear up that quote. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Connie
This is such a wonderful video. Great message. Love it
Becoming a minimalist is life changing in so many ways🩶
That was a very inspiring video. Although I know I won’t be leaving my home it somehow struck a chord with me. Thank you Connie.
What a lovely location you're in! I look forward to your messages ... so calming and inspiring. Thank you!
Love your channel. Wishing you continued success. Your nomadic lifestyle is amazing. Thank you for sharing. I will offer one point you are blessed to have your health and mobility .We so often take health and mobility for granted. This is why a permanent location with established health care can be a must for some people. Thanks again for sharing your journey. It lifts my spirits to be able to escape from my permanent home for a short escape. All the best, Connie .
Well said... we too are nomads and soon will be traveling (slowly) outside the US! Your videos are so beautiful ❤️
Get it! Enjoy your adventures.
Appreciate your honest take on navigating new ways of life 😊
So well told! Thank you for telling your story!
Good luck in this new part of living Conne; Certainly seeing the world x
Beautiful thoughts, beautiful video. Thank you ❤
Thank you for sharing your beautiful story God always provides God bless you and your husband on your new journey ❤🌸
So inspiring 🥰thank you Connie
Great video, Connie. Thanks!
It is a shame that you had to go through all that debt and financial struggle to get to minimalism, but it is good you went through them because it got you to where you are now. It taught you so much. I am really glad that happened for you. You are a long time minimalist like me (I started in 2006). There aren't many of us out there. I feel most became minimalists about 4-7 years ago, from what I have seen around the net. I LOVE that you sold EVERYTHING you own to travel. That is so amazing. I did that when I started initially and am sure we'll do such a thing when empty nesters too. I loved your story. This was also a lovely video. Thank you so much for sharing this with us.
Such a calming voice🫂
Keep praying 🙏
Thank you again Connie it’s really nice to see you and hear your story. I’d hope that maybe my husband and I would stay together like yours did going through the thick and thin seven life but unfortunately that didn’t happen but we do continue to have a friendship which is good we have three sons, I would’ve loved to of live a life like that to just pack up and go and just live life the way you live seems so wonderful thank you again for a wonderful video. Take care. God bless always.
Your video and your life is truly inspirational. So glad to have come across your channel today.
Its been a while Connie, thanks for sharing. You are a true inspiration. I am 51 yo and also an empty nester. My only debt is my home. Love always. God bless you❤
Thank goodness
You always look happy. I like some accommodations like a blow drying my hair but I guess everything is life is possible. I am praying to meet a nice guy so we can travel and enjoy gardening and those simple joys that mother earth bring. It hasn't happened yet, but I trust it will someday. I think you are brave and good thing you have your husband to share your life.....happy journey dear soul.....hugs....MINDY
My husband is definitely a catch! I'm very blessed to have him.
Thanks for sharing
Thank you! Love
What an amazing life you've had❤
thanks for this video so inspiring. Yes each person has to choose how they live and I think being happy and peaceful is the answer. I am retired, don't own a house and live minimally. I have had 2 careers in my early life and now have a good pension. I live within my means. I have no debt and will keep it that way. If I don't have the cash I wait to buy. I was not always that way however as I aged my wants and needs shifted. I am glad they did.
Your BEST video to date!!!❤❤❤
Thanks so much!
God bless you and your family....
So inspiring 😍❤️
I understand wanting to be debt free and living frugally. Makes sense. It is a relief and feels freeing. My husband and I are in our early 60’s debt free, some savings. However how do you earn income to sustain your nomadic lifestyle? That’s the part that throws us off. We currently rent, (never owned a home) and are both self employed with not retirement. So still a financial struggle to me financially independent.
Sold a house. No overhead like that.
And 162k subscribers 👍🏼
You inspire me everyday! I sometimes feel you are living my life❤ 😅
Another great video.. I have got to say you look incredible for 50.. Safe travels
Wonderful!!! thank you!!! we will do something similar! and find a purpose. not about money!
I like your story. I'm happy you're happy.🎉
Thanks for sharing....
We had a very similar experience. We never want to be slaves to DEBT anymore. It was crushing. Hence, we live full time on the road now. We appreciate your choices. We are the same as you no exit plan, but we will know when the time comes to change again. - Michelle
God bless you very encouraging I want to live a simple live too.
Lovely video.... my husband and I are severely paring down. Right now living in a rental my son bought. Not sure how nomadic we will become, but are having our Visa appt. for moving to Portugal soon. He is applying for Italian citizenship, so may move to Italy after that. We are taking it one day at a time and only keeping 2 Tansu chests and few boxes of mementos in case we move back to the U.S. down the line. It is cathartic to pare down our lives to a few boxes. Maybe at some point, we may even let those things go too.
Thank you for your videos......
Beautiful video! Thank you….
To clarify for some people it’s the LOVE of money that is the root of all evil- money is just a tool but we all have to use it unless you go off grid!
Which you’ve done!
Love your videos always!
Amen to that statement
Admirable
Amazing and very inspiring your history, thank you for sharing! My dream would be to do something similar to what you doing now but being single + 60 and with some health issues, has stopped till now. Wish you the best in your new way of living! Lots of Love from Spain ❤
Look into keto diet. Worked for me.
We always had a clothes line at our house. Some days when my mother hung up her bloomers, it looked like the whole 82nd U.S. Airborne got tangled up in our clothes line!
Are you able to maintain friendships , do you miss being part of a community, thanks.
Good question! I stay in contact with my friends around the world. But, somedays I do miss having community.
A meal we made was egg rice. Take cooked rice in a frying pan. Butter and good heat onions and seasoning you can get a delicious meal. If you have meat like bacon or something else that you removed bones from and it's going to taste better in egg rice.
Heat pan add oil/butter,add onion and green onion, meat, after you get Onion clear glazed add rice you want rice fairly hot add fold your beater eggs and don't let them stick. Can add cheese or salsa,I like to add taco bell packets if I have any handy. They TB like to add a little extra if you ask .
very sensible. love,,❤
Good words
It’s the LOVE of $ that is the root of all evil. Not so much $ itself.
But same story for me as a kid. We always had food and shelter, but not a lot left over.
I found that I worry about $ whether I have it or not, which tells me that much of my financial struggles are rooted in fear.
Simplicity is a good thing.
I've been a minimalist for as long as I can remember. I used to drive one of my parents nuts because I was always getting rid of stuff. I was told I would be a professional organizer. Lol. I do enjoy having things but I prefer quality over quantity.
Just curious, how do you navigate visas and time away from the states. Thank you
Wonderful video. I would love to live this way. How would health care work in such a scenario? If there is illness is there some sort of insurance that works well internationally? (I have been an expat before twice, but ankle injuries hit me in my late thirties and still crop up in my early fifties.) Thanks for the inspiring content.
Deeper down south we're blessed with the choice to live off the land. Fishing hunting gives us plenty options to save.
We lived in an off grid tiny house in the Appalachian Mountains. I loved being one with the land.
I'm new to your channel just subscribed coz the contents resonate. I've been binge watching. BTW, you look so young for someone over 50, what your secret to looking so youthful? Blessing and enjoy your journey ❤🙏🏻
For the (love) of money is the root of all evil Not money
1 Timothy 6-10
Is that your home? With the sheep? The stone and wood? So beautiful!
How pretty & beautiful you are !!💖God bless you 🌷
We bult a tiny house and lived from what? Money for the house, the plot from where? Live on what income?
Are you using Airbnb, hostels, or some other type of housing option to keep costs low? I’ve been nomadic in the states for 3 yrs now, but I would like to travel Europe. Any tips would be appreciated!
