I'm french and That's the best recording I found (I think there is same performance but beter quality video somewhere) , the one where she is in it perfectly and it makes me cry pretty much everytime. I always knew the OG version by Serge Lama which I never actually listened to ( because he has a singing style not very appealing to me) . “Je suis Malade”, now a french classic, was written by famous French singer & songwriter Serge Lama together with composer/singer Alice Dona in 1973. This is based on his own experience and he was the original performer, hence some lyrics are a bit male-oriented (eg my mother leaves me, whiskies, I pour my blood in your body, …). When Serge Lama had a dinner with Alice Dona and told her about his obsessive love that was leading to a road block, she came back home and compose the music in a couple of hours. The morning after, she presented him the music and he wrote the lyrics in … 20 minutes. Serge Lama was the original performer in 1973, it started to be promoted on the radio, and the song was brought to fame only when, a few months after, Dalida covered it. She was an absolute mega star in France, another emotional powerhouse, and this song resonated very much with her own feelings. Her success with this song transformed it into a french classic, and started to make it famous abroad. But it is Lara Fabian that really made this song a very popular song in many countries with her cover in the mid 90s. At that time Dalida had already passed away, but Serge Lama was (and is) still alive. Dalida and Serge were two inspirations for Lara, so she sent an audio copy to Serge of her version. She was unknown at that time in France but he was so impressed with her vocal skills and her emotions rendering that he invited her in France to sing it as a duet during is own Paris concert in January 1995. Highly recommend her duet with Johnny Hallyday, Requiem Pour un Fou, from the 9/11/98 concert at the Stade de France. You won’t find a more electric performance of a duet! Johnny was a French institution who started his career as a teenager and performed up until a couple of months before he died from lung cancer. He loved to find new, upcoming artists and give them a boost up in their careers. Requiem pour un Fou was his iconic song and he only ever did this in a duet with Lara (he felt she was the female version of himself as a singer).
You should do Lara's "Caruso" in Italien from the same performance, From Lara with Love. Italien is really her first language although she speaks 5 with no accent and she has recorded in 12. She is also an accomplished classical pianist, with a particular strength in Chopin.

Igor composed musics and Lara wrote lyrics in several languages then performed the songs. She's half Belgian, half Sicilian and grew up in Brussels. So that's why she speaks fluently French. In Belgium are a lot of people bilingual or even trilingual ( French, Dutch and German). Some Belgians speak even more languages because of origin or/and education. But... Lara is great! One of the best singers ever although I'm a Dear. But I love Lara and Dimash together. So magical!!

Lara is Italian. Her Mother is Italian. And in the Latin culture, you are what your mother is. She even has her Mothers and Grandmother's maiden name, "Fabian". She was born in Belgium, spent many years in Sicily with her grandmother when she was growing up. Then she moved to Canada in her early twenties where she still resides today. Lara is recognized as one of the best vocalist ever seen on earth and all professionals list her in the top vocalist tier with Barbra, Whitney, Mariah, Celine, Lisa Fischer, ....
In my personal opinion, she is even the best.
There are a few vocal characteristics that are her signature: her famous resonance for instance that allows her to sing acapella without mic in venues with 8,000 attendees. Her nickname in the singing world is "the ring" due to this. I would also list her amazing phrasing, breath management and her pleasant tone even when belting in her upper register.
So she is one of the best vocalist ever, but on top of that, she adds a few things that make her an absolute package with no equivalence:
• she speaks 2 languages natively (french, italian), and 2 others fluently (english, spanish), can speak a bit of dutch (and sicilian), and understand quite well russian and portuguese. She has sung in 12 languages in total
• she is an amazing songwriter and wrote lyrics for most her songs, in the 4 languages she speaks fluently. She often co-composes the music with the composer.
• she acts and performs on stage as nobody else, she colors and reveals the meaning of every single word in the songs, and her ability to emote, to draw you in is second to none

“Je suis Malade”, now a french classic, was written by famous French singer & songwriter Serge Lama together with composer/singer Alice Dona in 1973.
This is based on his own experience and he was the original performer, hence some lyrics are a bit male-oriented (eg my mother leaves me, whiskies, I pour my blood in your body, …).
When Serge Lama had a dinner with Alice Dona and told her about his obsessive love that was leading to a road block, she came back home and compose the music in a couple of hours.
The morning after, she presented him the music and he wrote the lyrics in … 20 minutes.
Serge Lama was the original performer in 1973, it started to be promoted on the radio, and the song was brought to fame only when, a few months after, Dalida covered it. She was an absolute mega star in France, another emotional powerhouse, and this song resonated very much with her own feelings. Her success with this song transformed it into a french classic, and started to make it famous abroad.
But it is Lara Fabian that really made this song a very popular song in many countries with her cover in the mid 90s.
At that time Dalida had already passed away, but Serge Lama was (and is) still alive. Dalida and Serge were two inspirations for Lara, so she sent an audio copy to Serge of her version.
She was unknown at that time in France but he was so impressed with her vocal skills and her emotions rendering that he invited her in France to sing it as a duet during is own Paris concert in January 1995. It was a triumph. So he sat in a front row seat and asked her to sing it again alone.
Lara also had made some subtle changes to the song that gave it even more power. Serge and Lara became good friends and performed several other duets later on.

Highly recommend her duet with Johnny Hallyday, Requiem Pour un Fou, from the 9/11/98 concert at the Stade de France. You won’t find a more electric performance of a duet! Johnny was a French institution who started his career as a teenager and performed up until a couple of months before he died from lung cancer. He loved to find new, upcoming artists and give them a boost up in their careers. Requiem pour un Fou was his iconic song and he only ever did this in a duet with Lara (he felt she was the female version of himself as a singer).

Lara and Igor had been working together suring more than 10 years. Igor composed musics and Lara wrote lyrics in several languages then performed the songs.
Thru this collaboration, Lara, already a star in Russia with the mega success there of her french song Je t’aime, became absolutely massive in this country and the whole Eastern Europe or Central Asia.
Dimash was thus exposed to her since he is a child and became an absolute fan.
In the 2017 Singer contest that brought him to fame, he covered her hit Adagio.

She's half Belgian, half Sicilian and grew up in Brussels. So that's why she speaks fluently French. In Belgium are a lot of people bilingual or even trilingual ( French, Dutch and German). Some Belgians speak even more languages because of origin or/and education. But... Lara is great! One of the best singers ever although I'm a Dear. But I love Lara and Dimash together. So magical!!

Lara is Italian. Her Mother is Italian. And in the Latin culture, you are what your mother is. She even has her Mothers and Grandmother's maiden name, "Fabian". She was born in Belgium, spent many years in Sicily with her grandmother when she was growing up. Then she moved to Canada in her early twenties where she still resides today. Lara is fluent in about nine languages and well, she's just about the most beautiful woman I think I've ever seen. She is the singer that only comes around once in five or six generations !

Her song Je T'aime is her most famous; you need to checkout the version from her From Lara with Love.
Stopping the song right after she finished the finally note was so incredibly frustrating. You didn’t see her reaction after singing, you did see the audience’s reaction. Unbelievable. Anyone that was truly moved by her performance would have wanted to experience that.
