    I love these projects! we started building ours back in 2012 and have put many fun miles on it, ours is a full frame swap and after building ours i completed a mk8 irs swap along with a 03 crown front suspension clip in a friends 67 f100. both ways are great upgrades, but i love the full frame swap lower ride and handling better

    Nathan: very nice comparison. Just watched both the F71 reveal and this video. Both are well done: Its is truly amazing that you do everything from the actual build to the video. I also enjoy hearing your thoughts on way to do things like the alternative conceptual idea of doing a body lift on the Crown Victoria. I thought you had already sold the orange one on eBay. Maybe I missed something.

    Nathan - PLEASE consider doing another truck like this - using the "hybrid" method you mentioned. I have a 65 Slick that I want to do that to. I want to use the CV frame and firewall, to retain the power brake setup and A/C, but I want to retain the original 65 dash. Please Sensei, lead the way and show us how it's done. lol.
    Either way, thank you for showing your work and sharing your talents with us.

    Great info. When I sit in a family '96 F150 we have I almost have enough leg room. The problem for me is the seat back is touching the rear window and it's sitting way too upright for me. The reason I've mentioned to you before about my attempt at stretching the cab 6" is mainly for the seat back room more so than leg room. The visual's you provided are great to actually see. Excellent vid. Was a tad disappointed that no ear crushing jumbo jet came over.....lol !!! :)

    • @christophermay4366
      @christophermay4366 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wayne Waldrep if you want a truck that you can lean back in...you're going to need an extra cab truck....any single cab truck is going to have upright seats...it's how bench seats are made...if you're over 5'8"....you need extra cab to be comfortable

    For years we would use these old crown Vicks for parts unbolt cut them whatever it took and morphed the frames if you will with the truck frames or maybe in a shoebox Ford. I like the idea of a full frame swap. I like the white Ford better because well it's just crisper cleaner the rims it sets approximately to the height of a truck. Now the two-tone it looks like you still have the crown Vic rims on it. Don't get me wrong I like both trucks. I preferred the truck dash and the extra knee room. But if I was going to build one I think I would keep the crown Vic dash because it looks more simpler to do. I've looked at your videos and I'm assuming you took the gas tank out of the cab and left it out. Maybe an extended cab with the crown Vic dash to have more room

    Just got a Nice P71 and it handles and rides great but I’m not going to change it much and if I do a conversion will simply use a P71 parts car, they had those go for $500 with low miles. A 1970 F150 LWB was the first I rode in. I’ve been looking for a 70s LWB truck for a project like this for a short time as It’s availability and lower price for a decent example should make it easier to find. I would like to use the Cab and front sheetmetal and then install a reproduction SWB Stepside bed. I believe it would also make the conversion easier. I was wondering what you meant when you said the cab was set back 1 1/2 inches. Was the front end lengthened ?.....Sorry I just can’t picture it in my Head. If I’m successful the long term goals would be a Kaase Boss 9 Head kit on a 460 shortblock and a Tremec 6spd manual. By the way have you ever thought about a Dodge 94-98 12 valve Cummins frame swap on a 47-53 Ford F1- F6 Cab, maybe with a flatbed ? Keep up the Hard Work.

  • @Robert8455

    I like the old dash for sure and a bit more leg room and don't care for suspension or wheel / tires rubbing. Is the bed box for IRS components? Personally, I'd hate to loose that bed and would maybe look at option 3, that being a front suspension swap.

    • @NathansGarage
      @NathansGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The running gear is all stock Crown Vic which is a solid rear axle with a 4 link & a watts link rear end. The gas tank is also housed there so if you use the stock Vic rear end there's no way of getting round the bed hump.

  • @HPTaxidermy1
    @HPTaxidermy1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Could you possibly use the front end of the crown vic and subframe it in or replace the crossmember and lower the rear and use factory 9” rear end with drum brakes or switch with another rearend with same bolt pattern as the crown Vic to keep the full bed...maybe buy aftermarket fuel tank and mount under the bed?

    • @NathansGarage
      @NathansGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      HPTaxidermy1 yeah the only way to keep the flat bed is to modify the original frame. You can put the CV front end on the original frame and you can lower the rear original axle. If you go really low you’ll have to notch the frame and you’ll have a bed hump.

    • @HPTaxidermy1
      @HPTaxidermy1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nathan's Garage thank you very much....beginning a lot of research to upgrade my 68 f100...looking at all options at leaving it 2wd and doing the CV frontend or finding late 90’s early 2000’s f150 2wd or 4wd full chassis swap

  • @buickdude69
    @buickdude69 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’m just wondering why not use the original truck frame those bodies were mounted to? I’ve seen em lowered and with leveled ride height with full use of the bed. I don’t care for the hump in the bed taking up space to clear the rear end

    • @NathansGarage
      @NathansGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      A lot of os's due to budget. If you swap the whole frame, you instantly step up to 2003 or newer technology for between $1-2K. If you keep the original frame, you have to box it and buy everything...mustang II front end, disc kit for the rear, motor and electrical upgrades...ABS...A/C...It works put to a lot more money...but...a lot less labor...so it's personal preference really.

    Quick question, I have 3 1965 F100's and a 2006 CV P71, I've wondered can you do the full frame conversion WITHOUT using the CV dash? But have the CV steering wheel NOT in your chest? & Knees NOT on the dash??

    • @NathansGarage
      @NathansGarage  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah you could mount your entire cab on the CV frame like I did with the F71 build. That way you keep all the old stuff like the truck dash...then you'd have to fabricate a mount for the CV column & then make it look "old"

      If you're doing a full frame swap you can go pretty early. I always go for 2003 onwards then you get the rack & pinion steering and the removable front subframe. Its the last generation of the Vic frame. I personally like 2006 or newer cars for the drive by wire (no throttle cable) & electronic cluster with no seed cable.

    You know these swaps are pretty cool but I'd like to see one that the bodies have been straightened and have a nice paint job on them. I guess my opinion of these projects are that everyone stops when there only half done. I hate patina it just looks like junk. I do want to say that your work at this point is good please finish the body.

    That leg room with the ugly vic dash is stupid. Not to mention you took a 1/2 ton truck and made it a car? Stupid. I'll keep my tried and true twin-I-beam that ford made for over 70 years and in vest my money into my big block so that 'cars' like this will see my tail lights haha

    I would not ruin a good truck like this. Just was not meant for this. Henry Ford II is rolling in his grave right now. Literally rolling.

    • @teejay622
      @teejay622 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh please Mark W. I suppose you must feel the same about all of the awesome T-buckets and modified Deuce Coupes and souped up Mustangs out there. Know your history - Henry ford would be AMAZED at what people have been doing to his vehicles over the years. If you aren't into modifying vehicles, why would you even BE HERE at this kind of video? People just LOOK for shit to complain about. Go drive your bone stock Ford Escort and let the grown-ups talk.
      Disregard the haters Nathan and keep your creative juices flowing. There are plenty of us out here that appreciate your efforts!
