My name is Rod Jones. I'm a 5th generation farmer and KC-135 pilot in the Ohio Air National Guard.
I was Active Duty Air Force for 16 years and have been with the Ohio Air National Guard for 4 years.

Another Wonderful Video. The refueling at night was a real experience. Just like us refueling our farm machines at night. Really liked the 360 shots in the cockpit. We finished our corn and beans around 2AM 5-12-24. Hope you are have a great spring planting also.

As you know, it's a great feeling to have all the seed in the ground! We started planting corn on 14 April when it was 80 degrees. The weather then turned cold and wet. A lot of our corn laid in the ground for almost 3 weeks, but it eventually came through! We were a little nervous, but I think our sandier soils saved us!

I've been a fighter Crew Chief in the ANG for 23 years, full time technician for 18, and was USAF for my first four years. Guard is a pretty cool gig. Last time I saw night ground ops with 135s was at KAF back in 2018. Cool video sir!
I was at KAF around that timeframe. We prob crossed paths!
Might have! I was on the A-10 ramp next door, and our Ops was in the building next to the tankers.

Always enjoy your videos and the various content that you provide but I must say, when you introduced Bob and he turned to the camera with that smile, I busted out laughing. I just kept thinking about those old Smiling Bob Enzyte commercials lol. Oh Bob sure was flying high in this one 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣.

I was a engine mechanic on the KC-135A, back when they had J-57. I ran the engines for maintenance, if possible I would like to see a good shot of the cockpit to see how much they have changed. I was stationed at that base from 1971 to 1973, it was Lockbourn AFB back then. I’m retired from the Air Force and farming and really enjoy your post

wow I really like your video, it is very well done. I have watched the planes from Lock-born for years my parents house was on the landing pattern for several years. You could see the crew from the ground they flew so low.
Hopefully the jet noise is not too annoying!

Hahahaha, I’d like to see the recording of the in flight messages and warnings! I wonder how many times it takes to get the appropriate inflection?
Also for recruitment, Ohio Guard will pay 100% of the tuition charges at participating public colleges and universities, I've seen numerous airman get out after their six year commitment with a bachelors degree with no debt!
Yes, just the eduction piece alone makes it worth it in my book!

Another great video Rod. Always enjoy both the Air Guard and farming videos. That rear looking view on takeoff from CLCK is awesome. New perspective on all of the warehouses that you cannot appreciate from the ground. Does the Guard do any open house days down there? I'd love to drive down to attend. Thanks for all you do.
Yes, the local area has exploded with huge warehouses the last few years, and they keep building more.

Only downfall of being National Guard is if you spend time on active service you’re not considered a veteran. You will not qualify for any benefits.
It is worth it going active or would’ve been 20 3040 years ago.

Not sure I understand the the latter half of your comment though. If someone does any sort of military service, whether it be Active Duty, Reserves, or National Guard, they are a veteran in my book.
As far as benefits go, a lot (not all) Guardsmen qualify for some sort of retirement benefits.
@@ohioflyingfarmer7050 Well technically we are not. Nine years between Kansas and Illinois Army National Guard. And I have no problem not being federalized. None whatsoever I did my time. Just make people wear to qualify technically as a veteran you must be active? Six months after Training.

Great video. I was a little surprised to see all four engines on the C-17 swinging a little on their pylons. Is that normal or is it from some turbulence from flying so close to the -135?
I'm sure our wake turbulence is a factor. I'm not sure if they always do that in clear air, or not.

No, no reversers.
The only tanker that has reversers is the KC-10, but it has recently been retired.
Even the new tanker, the KC-46, does not have reversers.
I guess the Air Force didn't want to spend the extra money!🤷♂️
