  • For a bit of my time, effort and $180AUD ($135USD) I custom fitted a set of ebay mufflers inside the exhaust covers, or heat shields, to produce a deep rumble sound which appeals to me. Instead of paying huge dollars and not sure if I would like the sound, I thought I would experiment.

      Appreciate the feedback Jon. I am working on a 'tail tidy' from scratch next, for an older CBR1000F I just picked up. Looking at doing a quick video on that when I get time.

      Hi Nick, The guys I ride with love it. They say it sounds like a big V8 when under full steam and cool hearing it going through the gears. It might be my imagination but I think I am getting marginally better fuel economy too. Weird, as I am tending to ride it harder just to hear it. Thanks for the comment, Shane

    Great video very detail-oriented do you know what size baffles there they are inside the exhaust

    • @shaneinoz1019
      @shaneinoz1019  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The mufflers are built like the 'old school' hotdogs. They are straight through with baffles around the casing. There is a small obstruction that directs low flowing exhaust into the surrounding baffle but when under full noise the obstruction does not catch much, allowing it to flow straight through. Hope that answers your question. Thx Shane

    Hey I got one for you after watching your video I took my mufflers off. Took a cut off wheel cut the front and the back on the spot welds ripped out the baffling welded them back together can't believe the thing even runs with all the restriction. Sounds better. But still would like it to be louder. Took about two and a half hours do both sides

      Hi John, Your solution and other adjustments, were always an option, if I considered modifying the OEM mufflers. I was chatting to a local Honda dealer (open and frank discussion) and I indicated what I was about to do. He told me of a customer who bought a 2018+ secondhand wing interstate and needed a RWC to transfer it to his name. Problem was that the previous owner had done a mod to the original pipes and mufflers which made it so loud you could hear it coming two streets away, over other traffic. Apparently the OEM muffler are worth about $7K a set to replace. Long story short, he returned the bike and got his money back as the whole thing was cost prohibitive. I believe my mod and similar, was the safe way to go but I don't criticize anyone for having a go in another direction. If you are happy, that's all that matters. I wish I could weld stainless, I should learn one day. My ebay mufflers are basically straight through with a very slight deviation in the flow for some gases to go though a baffle. All the best, Shane.

      I was just about to write about doing exactly what you obviosly did lol. I haven't done it but thought he ran a sound test without mufflers and no change so what could be the harm. Rip out the guts and call it a day.

    I quess if you want to blow a hole though your piston, and or damage your engine. Blindly changing the back pressure in your exhaust system could do that.

    Did you remember exactly the brand, because I love the sound.

    • @shaneinoz1019

      Thanks Victor, The main thing about the 2018+ Goldwing is that they have the 'heat shields", or covers over the mufflers which means the bike's appearance does not change, except for the exit being bigger instead of the twin small pipes. I believe the mufflers are exposed on your year bike. If you are happy with the modified appearance, then I see now reason why you could not fit these to yours. I suggest you add any joiner pipes to your bike at the point where yours separate from other pipes rather than cutting any original Honda piping, so you can always refit the OEM set up. The oxygen sensor was fitted well ahead of where my set up started, so no issue there either. The mufflers on ebay are readily available and all the same if they look the same as pictured in my video. Go for it, little to loose but time. All the best, Shane.

      There is no actual link to the 'exhaust', they are just simple mufflers I found on ebay and I fabricated the rest by hand. They are abundant on ebay, the same as can be found here -www.ebay.com.au/itm/393264156811?_trkparms=aid%3D1110006%26algo%3DHOMESPLICE.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20201210111314%26meid%3De4285491743641d69f9b75fc9411606d%26pid%3D101195%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D12%26mehot%3Dco%26sd%3D303779097104%26itm%3D393264156811%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D0%26pg%3D2047675%26algv%3DSimplAMLv9PairwiseUnbiasedWeb%26brand%3DUnbranded&_trksid=p2047675.c101195.m1851

      You supply the same slip on mufflers (black or chrome) and then get a your local exhaust guy to make the joiner afterwards ...............certainly yes. Not sure how I would cost out my work but I would work it out. Where are you located? I think if more people wanted them I would need to make a 'jig' for the joiner pipes in due course and I would also make the main internal stay bracket look nicer. Shane

      @shaneinoz1019  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GaitesKlein As much that it would be a good idea, unfortunately I don't think that would work as it is a very custom fit even after the strip brackets were pre-made. I suggest if you could put it together from just the supply of the brackets, then you would be very capable of fabricating the brackets yourself. I am no genius but just have the time and patience. I wish you all the best. Shane

    Great job! Bet it sounds great in person I find that videos never seem to do exhausts justice. Do you happen to recall what the diameter of pipe was at the cat where you connected?

    • @shaneinoz1019
      @shaneinoz1019  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's been a while, but I believe about 2 1\4 inch pipe. The muffler pipe can be viewed from underneath, try using a caliper (digital or dial type) to confirm the diameter.

    How much for a set?

    • @shaneinoz1019
      @shaneinoz1019  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Moe, I have been asked about that before. I did this for myself and as a guide for anyone else who would give it a go. It took a fair chunk of my time plus the custom joiner pipes required to be made by a friend. Not sure what he would charge if made as a paying job. The build is solid and works well but I am not sure if you were paying for such a thing that you would be happy with the quality, and to be honest I would not be happy selling it without that understanding. Eg. when you squash the round pipe the chrome splinters off the pipe. Hope you see where I am going with this. All the best if you give it a go and happy to answer questions if you are unsure. Shane

      Hi Kareem, I made this as a custom project for myself and have been asked a number of times about cost if I built for others. It is difficult due to the logistics of how I could do it for others so I think it best to have someone you know, close to you, use my video as a reference and build it for you. That is, unless you live in Melbourne Australia, then we could work something out. All the best, Shane
