IT WORKS!!! guys basically just google "chrome remote desktop" and download it and install on the desktop you want to control. it will pop up a box saying do you want to run and install this program, hit yes. once the program runs it will ask for a reboot, , then launch it and start the application on the desktop. on your android phone install the chrome remote desktop from the store and then just click the name of the dekstop you created, BOOM it works!!! the setup on the desktop is the important part just pay attention to the prompts, its really easy!!! it's june 2019, works!!! also you set up a 6 digit pin number and type it in to get access to your desktop, it's like super cool this works!

That is great. I use Google Remote Desktop for a church I support, but when I initially set it up Google didn't offer the capability to host it on Linux. That is a great new addition I'll definitely use.

I'm gonna do this for school. My laptop just died and I didn't feel like buying a new one since I only have one year left. So I'm gonna build a desktop, buy a Chromebook, and access it that way. Kind of a work around but I'm not gonna use a laptop after I graduate but a "gaming PC" would definitely get used.

FANTASTIC, THANK YOU! My brother bought our mother a Chromebook computer, but seeing I have an HP, I had no idea how to use hers. I found another video and all the crazy steps to jump thru were nuts... plus no one talked to explain anything, they just typed it all. Your process was so easy to understand, now to set it up. Tried to get Skype downloaded, but that was a pain too! So hopefully this will help. Thx Again!

It works great for connecting from Linux to Windows and MacOS. As I only run Linux as my daily platform but I have to trouble shoot for users on other platforms it has come in very handy.
As until resonantly Teamviewer was not native on Linux so it had it's ups and downs. Thank you for covering this.

i have been using Chrome Remote Desktop for the past 2 yrs. I use my chromebook to do video editing on my windows office PC from my living room, so i don't have to be away from my family. I also use it when I just want to take my chromebook on trips or from my Pixel Phone to get a file or do some small tasks on the phone. It works great. sometimes it gets disconnected but only if the computer has been on for a long time. You can also log in even if the monitor is turned off. pretty cool.

Thank you Lance. This is what i wanted to know. If i would be able to run premiere pro in the living room using my chromebook by being connected to a desktop in another room. Does it still work good?

On the Mac, it did not work well particularly with the redrawing. It took for ever to update, this is when going in the Mac. Now when on the Mac going into Windows it worked supper well. Or from a Windows to another Windows all well.

I tried this last night on my nexus 7 2013 tablet and used it to connect to my laptop and it works good for me.
Yes I'm pretty sure scammers will try it eventually but that will require them to write a much more crappy script to trick people. Google needs to release a statement before hand to warn about potential scammers who may use the remote access service. It would go along way to nip scammers. Also Google needs to hide a function inside remote desktop where you can track the IP of the one accessing your device or laptop. Good video. You earned a new subscriber.

They need to login to your google account first. So you would know any unauthorised access to your google account. There is also the option for one time access but can only be setup if someone logins to your google account first.

Just found out about this from a coworker, was thinking of Apache Guacamole but tried this and it's working (so far at least, I did the install using my FireFox browser not chrome).
I do see an issue, kinda, though. I have a multi monitor set up currently and when it loads its showing both as 1, so it is extremely wide by really narrow. Still works though...

This worked great when I used it to access my Windows PC from my iPad. I can also access it from another PC I own or pretty much any computer that can access the Internet, as long as I know my Google account credentials and the PIN I used when I set it up on my computer. Thumbs up from me! And yes, for anyone who's concerned about security, the connection is encrypted, so pretty much no one can get in from the outside.

Looks interesting, but would rather use an open source solution if it exists. I have been using TeamViewer until now (I am the designated tech support person in my family...), but want to move to something else. Any ideas? Something that will traverse NAT without modifying the firewall? That is always a problem. The whole point of me helping out is because they do not know how to do stuff like that :-)

Ok, there is a major bug in the chrome remote desktop. For windows PC, it gets confused And you have to uninstall and clear it out with a special designed program, then reinstall and hope it works. It is supposed to automatically see other PC setup with remote desktop on the local lan. It does do fine with linux. No mention of this in the video
    Chipperchap said:
    SOLUTION - (Worked for me):
Run the microsoft Fix-It tool and see whether that resolves the issue. Link here: support.microsoft.com/en-us/mats/program_install_and_uninstall
When prompted, choose "uninstall problems" and then "Chrome Remote Desktop Host". When that has completed, trying downloading and installing the latest chrome remote desktop host again here: remotedesktop.google.com/access.

The Chrome remote desktop does not work both ways in flavors of Linux that run on Arm, Raspberry pi for example, I can see my Raspberry pi on my Windows PC, but the Raspberry pi cannot "Chrome Remote Desktop" into the Windows Machine. I have the same question.

    • @seriouslyjk.7183
      @seriouslyjk.7183 5 ปีที่แล้ว

Same here... If I'm offering support to someone (especially friends and family), and they don't have a Google Account, I really can't expect them to create a Google Account for themselves in order to receive any kind of support. I've "Googled" this question/issue a number of times and the most popular and relevant articles/forums that suggest a way to do it all do not work (including the special links like "/headless" and "/access"). If you try to go to those links (or any link, really), it ALWAYS redirects you to the Google Account Sign in page-- in order to make use of Chrome Remote Desktop.
I really have a feeling this isn't possible. I wish the user could just initiate the connection from the browser link after installing the extension for Chrome WITHOUT a Google Account. I would have no problem getting someone to install just the browser and extension. But, if someone doesn't want to create a Google Account, it seems like you're out of luck. For instance, my parents do not use Google Accounts/Gmail so, I couldn't use this feature with them unless they create accounts-- which we're not going to do just for this. This makes this all the more frustrating.

TeamViewer had a free personal edition that was great, I used it for 10 years.
Last month they announced there was too much abuse of the personal license, so they have a robot which suspends "suspicious" accounts, and you can complain on a form, and they promise to get back to you in 30 days. Right.
I called. They first refused to say why their robot thought I was abusing it. I explained that I was using it to control my mom's PC in her bedroom in her independent living campus. Aha. That's not residential use, because she gets her wifi via the campus LAN. It's from one apartment bedroom to another, but it ain't residential.
So they are ratting on their promise to keep it available.

I posted this below and I'm hoping someone sees this and maybe has an answer:
My biggest problem is, if I'm offering support to someone (especially friends and family), and they don't have a Google Account, I really can't expect them to create a Google Account for themselves in order to receive any kind of support.

I wonder how responsive is it over the internet connection.
For example you can't really view a playing video on a remote machine with Teamviewer , it's really laggy. Also you get that slow image load when you minimize/maximize a large window.

With your host computer all set for connections, all you've gotta do to access it from another desktop computer is go to that same Remote Desktop website - remotedesktop.google.com/access - within the Chrome browser. You'll need to be signed into Chrome, using the same Google account you used on the host system, but you won't need any particular apps or extensions installed; you'll just see your computer's name appear, and you can click on it to start the connection. - Copy/pasted this from computerworld.com

I expected to have to configure each machine to have some sort of ID or address, so you could identify the host from the remote client. But no: all you have to specify is that PIN. I don't understand how that works. If you used password 1234 in that video, is that all I need to get into your computer?

Anyone using this feature for remote development? I'm curious about connecting to a ML desktop for projects and having projects run remotely. TY
