Very useful video. But how can I access a chromebook from an iPad? I had remote desktop on my Mac/iPhone with the old system and it worked nicely. Now it’s all just a mess, imo.
You should be able to get the Chrome Browser extension for the remote desktop app on a Chrome book. Then get the remote desktop iOS app on your iPad. Would operate the same way once you have the agent installed on your Chrome book
Hey Cam. Will this work with a tablet? I want to give it to my mom. She is in a retirement home, and has Alzheimers. She also has problems with her manual dexterity. My goal is to get her a tablet or a laptop, and control it remotely, so that we can have zoom chats. I have a Macbook and an iPhone, so I am not sure if it will even work. Any suggestions? I call Amazon, and they don't know anything. The people from RCA say that their viking tablet/laptop will work, but I am skeptical. Any input would be greatly appreciated. My mom has to be secluded in her room, because of Covid, and she misses chatting with her family. Thank you.

Yeah, chrome remote desktop is good. However, recently I discovered another very good alternative: R-HUB remote support servers. It works on both MAC and Windows and is only one time cost as compared to hosted services.
Hey Mate, they're in Heathcote Australia, called Pink Cliffs. a very surreal place to walk through, created from old gold-mining works which was very common for the area.
@@neebaum3188 yeah it's not a tourist hotspot, well out of the way from any major city, but if you're into mining towns then yeah nots of that stuff around 😁😊
Great explanation of a great app do you know if it will pick up sounds from the host laptop I have a program on my laptop that he emits audible alerts when operating
I have a dual monitor PC set up but I would like to choose only 1 of those monitors to cast to my Android. On the Android app I cannot see a side menu which allows me to select a particular monitor. Is there any way around this?
It should work, it'll just take a while for it to become discoverable again of you turn the VPN on whilst connected. Since the chrome remote desktop isn't IP based and more so dynamic, it should then find it's way back to Google's remote server on the VPN and become discoverable. Ive remoted in many times, then turned on VPN, had to wait about 15minutes, then could see my PC come up live fore remote access again. That was with PIA VPN though, but it should work eventually with others granted they're not blocking google servers 😊✌️
cam shand I actually downloaded the VPN also on my phone and connected and it worked immediately. Before that, it would just be a black screen for me. Weird.
Hi, Thank you for this very useful video, May I ask how can you use this google remote desktop software to access your other android phones or devices aswell (not a pc or a laptop) that you left at home? (ie from phone to phone connection instead of from phone to desktop connection) any suggestions?? Thanks!
I really appreciate this video tho gotta ask is there a Controller that works on your phone for the streamed PC games? For example I often use my iPhone to Remote Play my PS4 and use either my Gamevice Controller that plugs in via the Lightning Port and allows me to wirelessly play my PS4 anywhere like a Nintendo Switch. Or I use my SteelSeries Nimbus Bluetooth Controller and can use my phone in tabletop mode to play my PS4 from anywhere. Is there a Bluetooth controller I can use while Remote Playing my PC to my phone so I can play my PC games on my phone the same way I play my PS4 games on my phone? So far I tried the Gamevice, the SteelSeries Nimbus and the SteelSeries Stratus XL and none of them worked. Any info on this would be greatly appreciated!

Hey Cam. I'm looking for ways to turn on my PC from my phone in a secure way. is there a way to logg-in to windows from my phone? Does wake on LAN bypass loggin? I would rather not have all regular wakeups bypass login (e.g. in case my PC gets stollen).
You'd need a wake on Lan setup to trigger it to power on remotely when the magic packet is received. But to do this remotely, outside of your home, you need to have a router setup with port forwarding and to know your public IP address. Then you'll be able to setup a tool to wakeup a device on your private home network... Its for sure no simple task! Once it's woken up, you can use the chrome remote desktop to login, it runs at the login screen so you never have to set your PC to login on boot.
Hey very helpful video but I seem to still be having an issue. I have a google pixel 2 XL and I am trying to connect it to my hp chromebook laptop. I don't have all those steps that you are showing in your video. Would you know why by any chance?
It's as secure as your Google account and pin used to login. Beyond that the communication is encrypted so that's probably similar to other remote access services.
Cam, how do we flip this.... I have mom in long term care and want to have access to Samsung Tab so i can do remote check in and updates and add pictures..... you get the idea.... Thanks hope you can help. Mossman
It does have lag, and depends on your internet connection. It's nothing like RDC over LAN so I wouldn't say edit a Video through it or try and play a game. But to get files on and off, open up a link I had or start downloading a game through steam it's incredibly useful!
Yeah the process is running in the background after startup. I'm yet to setup a WakeOnLAN device on my network so I can wake my PC up remotely, then remote in, that's the ultimate plan ;)
