Whenever I play on my 3DS, I normally just turn on 3D mode, say “oh, cool” then turn it off.
For me the 3D mode gives the game a HD look. Idk if it's just me but the 3D mode does really look 3D
Seriously shock the Nds and SP got rank lower then 3DS. I always felt bored playing the 3DS where as back in the days Nds and SP games were more fun.

You might discount the 2DS XL but keep in mind it’s software (and hardware if you want to get technical) was improved compared to the original 3DS where it can load games faster and for the price, it’s not a bad deal if you wanted to trade pokemon and such.

I think the 2ds is really cool because it looks better an sleeker than any other ds handheld and the fact that it can play all 3ds games and ds games AND all of the new Nintendo 3ds titles like MINECRAFT
I have the 2DS XL and I think it’s the best version of the 3DS family, because the 3D was not really entirely necessary. I mean Gen 7 of Pokémon didn’t even use 3D effects in it.
Plus the micro sd card is easily accessible. It’s a great console and I recommend it to anyone looking for a 3DS console. It deserved better than the placement it got

The DS Lite has to be the best of the 'non-3ds' models because it retains GBA backward compatibility and is a much improved design on the original.
I prefer the dsi xl, but to each their own. Also have a 3ds and lite.

@@JP-297 This video does not take in the technological and cultural importance of each device when it came out at the time and is only reviewing them from a contemporary technological viewing point, ie. putting the technology of today as the absolute standard and applying that to the entire catalogue of handhelds, which is very of unfair to the older and often technologically groundbreaking (Gameboy Classic) handhelds.

Yeah, clicking on this video I assumed it would be ranking the systems based on *the games they can play* rather than just their hardware. Weighing in a system's ratio of good games to bad ones and their total library, and then *complementing* that with which ones had the best hardware for that library. That would make the most sense to me, and would probably put the DS Lite at #1, since it's the newest handheld console that still retained access to the GBA's entire native library (the best library in Nintendo's entire handheld lineup, all things considered) plus DS games (which had a lot of shovelware but also a lot of great games). Instead, he just basically listed them in chronological order...
SP came out with a front-lit screen initially but later had a refresh with the back-lit screen that made a world of difference.

My first ever handheld was the red DS lite. I got it when I was around 6-7 years old, I even still have the Mariokart DS game I got with it! Sadly that console got stolen, so I was gifted the blue 3ds, which also got stolen, and a blue 3ds xl, which broke (Not my fault btw, I was charging it and the cables came out with it 0-0), before I eventually got the mario themed 3ds xl I got in 2012. 🥰
My first console was the Wii and the second was the 3DS XL. Truly one of the best consoles I’ve ever played, and the best memories. I got it when I was 7. I spent a lot of my free time playing it. I haven’t used it for a few years after the switch came out, and I started playing it again like two months ago. It’s a fantastic console and I’m glad I had it.
Also it compensated my lack of friends so that’s cool too.

2ds got me back into gaming. I couldnt hold out when the price dropped to 79usd. I really liked the feel of it too, reminded me of a modern Gameboy. Next thing I knew I was shelling out for a switch.

It's clear this ranking wasn't done based on "at the time" experience with each version, but rather done by other criterion.
Since the Game Boy Lite was never sold outside of Japan the lack of a backlight was never something we missed on the Game Boy Color or Advance.
Having owend, or at least used, every Gameboy and DS when they were first released I'd personally rank the following ones very high.
Game Boy - The original was amazing to hold and play on. Sure it wasn't small, and it had no light, but hey we didn't know better.
Game Boy Advance - This thing was a mazing to play on for hours, and it had an amazing library of games.
Game Boy Color - I found it a little bit better to hold than the Pocket. And the games had color.
Switch - It's comfortable to play on for hours, but a bit awekward on the buttons. The screen size makes up for it though
2DS - Don't know why it exists? Why anyone would want that? Because the flip screen DS' were uncomfortable to play on, almost every one of them. The 2D is was amazing to hold and play on, and I never cared for the 3D Gimmick anyways.
DSLite - The original DS was heavy, had uncomfortable buttons, and the stylus was tiny and cramp inducing. This one sported comfortable buttons. It was still very thin and lacked a good grip.
Beyond that Most of the other ones were worse versions of the above mentioned devices. The Advance SP might have had a back light, but the buttons and holding comfort were lacking.
I thing the GBA SP deserves a higher ranking. That handheld had an amazing design and basically paved the way for foldable systems.

I still think new Nintendo normal size would be my favourite especially since I’m planning on getting it. The screen is not tiny and it’s as good as the X-Large just with a smaller battery and smaller screens. But it’s also lighter and smaller so it’s easier to take with you. You can always use a charging bank if it goes low on battery and you can play Pokémon. That’s the main reason why I’m getting it

I will always have fond memories of the Gameboy Advance SP, it was my eldest sisters but I would constantly use it, so much so it is currently in my possession today. I only ever played the same two games on it, Super Mario Bros Deluxe and a Spyro game thats been lost for a long time. After that I got the Nintendo DS and it's kind of spiraled from there and now I'm on a mission to collect almost all of Nintendo's consoles

the gbsp was probably the best because they finally added a backlight and its in color and its backwards compatible with all game boy games and it probably paved the way for nintendo foldables and it’s pretty compact for its features though the only downside is that theres no headphone jack but thats ok 8.9/10
Ds lite was probably my favorite handheld out of all of them. I have a 3ds as well and have played a lot of game boy games but that was my favorite I think.
This was essentially just a timeline of consoles (apart from when budget consoles came out).

I love and still have my 2DS. For my large hands it was really comfy. I did upgrade to a N3DSXL (wanted larger screens) but it isn't a comfy as the 2DS.

What makes even less sense is the DSi line being above the DS line.
@Michael Beld The DSi is obsolete. Its only purpose was to experiment in more powerful hardware and to make more bucks to be put into developing the Wii U and 3DS.
I could see the DS lite being put over it. You get 18 hours of battery life, the ability to play all GBA games on a brighter screen, a massive library of thousands of DS games, and the best ergonomics in any handheld ever designed. Since they both can play GBA games, it basically boils down to Game Boy/Color games versus DS games, and I think that's an obvious choice for the latter.

I enjoy the og gameboy advanced with an ips screen display mod and usbc charge port. It might not be the true gameboy advanced experiance but it improves nearly every aspect of it

At 5:09 , the game cassette, can anyone let me know what it is called ? I am trying to remember my childhood console and it had same this cassette in it. I used to play frogger and a ski game in my handheld gaming console. Am not sure if it was psp or what but all i remember is that it had these cassettes and looked like modern psp. My sister and I started off with Gameboy Color and Gameboy Advanced. Then came our DSi, I got a 2DS, and now I have a N3DSXL, which I've recently modded to play just about whatever I want to load in.
I remember in 1st grade getting the all new Nintendo wii and absolutely loving it as I’m not very big into video games yet the wii was just amazing to me. Then my neighbor sold me his game boy advanced and I love it yet didn’t seem to play it that often. Then in second grade I got my Ds life and quite loved it as I could play my game boy games on a backlit screen. Then in 3rd grade I got my dsi and man I loved it it and put in some hours on new super Mario bros and Mario kart. I kinda stopped playing for a bit and got a ps3 and I liked it because I have the ps1 and loved crash bandicoot, however the crash bandicoot on ps3 was too appealing to me so the ps3 kinda sat for a bit till I got bo1 then a year later bo3 came out and I traded my ps3 for a ps4, I played the crap out of bo3 and then kinda just let my ps4 sit for years until I finally just traded it in for a Nintendo switch and I have to say I love it Mario kart 8 and super smash are just amazing on switch and I love it.

My first Hand-held was a Gameboy micro when the DS is released. Played Pokémon emerald,Leaf green and some sort of Pokémon ruby hack.

Ds lite was mine. My dad gave his to me when I was four. Even though I have newer consoles I still play it to this day 👌🏻

I love my micro. Never had issues with it. Plus it was really easy to play in class. I still play it to this day
The only handheld Nintendo console I've ever owned is the Nintendo 3DS XL. This thing is like 5, 6, or 7 years old and still works like a charm. The only issue it has it that it has difficulty reading games, but overall a great console.
My brothers have their New Nintendo 3DS XL, but I never saw why it was better than mine. One of my cousins owns a Nintendo 2DS which I dislike how it looks.

A ranking of “how good they were at the time of release.” This was “how good I think they are based on apples-to-apples (no accounting for technological improvements over time) hardware comparison.”
I actually have the light blue 3ds but mine isnt working since uh of course the battery puffed up like a popcorn i used to have it for my whole childhood and looking back it was fun i had rex generator and new super mario bros
When i got my 2ds xl, it had mario cart 7 build-in.
