@@03Chris25 yeah, Sony Just isn't as big of a name as those others, but that doesn't mean it can't make ripples. Pixel phones progress the industry by a lot, but they sell like shite. And even if a small amount of people more than usual but this phone, it will have effects.

    • @03Chris25
      @03Chris25 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@MarnixUwU I don't think Pixel phones set a good comparison with Sony as Pixel phones are literally made by the company in charge of making Android OS. The reason why Pixel phones make headlines and ripples across the tech world is not due to their impressive sale numbers but rather their approach to Android and what stock Android OS is, which then other Android manufacturers take into account when making their own custom versions of their Android skins.
I really like the phone, but I don't want to spend that much money on importing a phone where I can get a similarly specced Samsung phone with all the proper customer support in my country.
I really, really hope this phone sells out like crazy and Sony decides to reintroduce themselves in terms of the smartphone market, but as this market is reaching a plateau, my hopes for ever using a Sony phone in my country is dwindling.

@@narubi9 Sony stands out in their hardware this year, but I think Samsung offers way more diverse software included with the phone. I will miss Samsung Notes, their dark mode browser, and the consumer-friendly UI tweaks that Good Lock gives me. I'd pay good money for that software.

Excellent review. I've been researching new phones on GSMArena before buying them since 2002. Glad your reviews are still as professional and comprehensive!
Looks like I'll be getting the 5 Mk. II, it's a good sign if even the disadvantages or "nitpicks" sound like advantages to me. I like decently wide bezels, so at least I can hold the phone in one hand without accidentally activating stuff on the screen edges. I have tried several bezelless phones and they're simply not usable to me. Also, slower charging and being able to reduce screen refresh rate both mean longer battery life, which is getting more important.
I would like for Sony to add an option (maybe to Game Enhancer?) to run certain apps in a 16:9 aspect ratio. I've found that a lot of apps, particularly games, are distorted, cut off, or don't even work on 21:9 screens. I'm sure new apps will be more careful about that, but a lot of older games will never be fixed.
Also, I'm curious how Sony will manage to continue their tradition of increasingly confusing model names next year.

There's a feature on the Xperia 5 ii (and 1 ii) which I think should be mentioned, as it's so powerful yet underrated. It's called "HS Power Control".
It basically allows you to power the phone directly from USB power, instead of the battery. This means that:
    a) the battery will last longer in the long run because you're putting less strain on it by not charging and using it simultaneously
    b) the phone generates less heat overall, damaging the battery less and reducing the risk of thermal throttling.
Honestly, it's such a good feature that all phones and tablets have, especially those ones that advertise "productivity" or "gaming" usage scenarios.
The feature isn't perfect though, because it's for some reason found in the "Game Enhancer" setting, which only works when you open an app that is listed in it. You can add most games and heavy duty apps like benchmark apps, but TH-cam, Chrome, Prime Videos and the camera app etc cannot be added to the list. At least Google Maps can be added, so if you drive around a lot you can keep your phone working with the navigation without heating up your phone whilst it's connected to the cigar charger. Also, the feature is not available whilst using wireless charging (for Xperia 1 ii).
The feature really should have been a system wide thing, because I can imagine a use case where someone would like to have very long filming sessions outdoors in the sun using the Cinema Pro app, and this feature would be so useful. Or when USB tethering to a laptop and sharing the mobile network.
It's great to see Sony implementing features that are actually useful in smartphones, unlike some "gaming" phones that have excessive RAM and cooling fans etc. Seriously, the Xperia 5 ii might be the best gaming phone to buy right now because of this single feature.

To the one reading this, you are precious and valuable even if you don't feel so. Jesus loves you. He set me free from porn addiction and masturbation in 2018 which I struggled with for almost 10 years. I was close to death three times and he saved me. He changed my lustful heart. He can transform your life if you let him. You just have to repent of your sins and put your trust in Jesus. He will give you the peace which surpasses all understanding, even in the midst of trials and tribulations. Fear won't grip you anymore because you will receive the assurance of eternal life when you believe in Jesus. He is the way to heaven. He paid our fine by shedding his sinless blood for our sins. Our good works cannot get us to heaven because those are like a bribe to the judge of the universe. This is a very serious thing. We never know when our last minute on earth is. It could be any second, hour or day from now and if we don't have forgiveness for our sins, we will end up in Hell. We cannot take our money, riches or fame with us when we die. We have to give an account of our life to God. We only have chance till we are alive on this earth. Please think about this. Don't let pride stop you from knowing the truth. He paid a price on the cross for our sins. He rose on the third day and defeated death. He took the punishment in our place. He did this out of his inconceivable love for us. I was prideful before and rebelled against the living God and forsook the truth just because I didn't want to lose. Humble yourself and call on to Jesus from wherever you are and ask him "sincerely" if all these things are true. He will reveal it to you. He will open your heart to the truth. You can experience him personally. Try it. You won't lose anything. I am writing all this because I really care for you. Even though I don't know you, I know that your soul is extremely precious to God. May God bless you He can revive your situation no matter how messed up it is. Don't end your life at any point. There is hope in Jesus. You just have to humble yourself and call out to him "wholeheartedly" and he will answer you.❤️

Warning: If you're considering buying this Sony Xperia 5/1ii iii look elsewhere.
This phone is plagued with Fingerprint issues and overheating battery.
ASUS ROG 5/6 and ZenFone is the alternative to Sony. Asus also offers a headphone jack but no micro SSD slot.

I buy a phone to last, so the question becomes: Will I need 5G in a year? Because that's about the only missing thing here...

😅 I think 5g is actually included. Just disabled for usa market because usa is screwing with sony so they enable 5gb to any other country aside usa

Depends on how long you want to keep it. You can expect at least 10 Years from it's battery lifespan. That's just my experience with Sony. 8 Year old phone, 96% capacity left, 14 Year old phone, 70% capacity left.
