yeah, releasing 'exclusives' on other platforms long after the original release is fine, but the PS2 release within the year was bullshit and a greedy cash grab. But yeah capcom are bastards. I haven't even touched Street Fighter 5 because I knew it would be a good 5 years before I could buy a version without missing characters that would piss me off to see released later.
That's nothing compared to the packaging of Gex 3 on N64 claiming it's "only for" the system when it was a year late port of the PS1 version, and not even a good one. The exclusivity this game boasted was an obvious lie right on its launch day!
@bigevilworldwide1 Shinji Mikami made a deal with Nintendo to port RE games to Gamecube; by that point he'd had enough of the difficulties porting them to Playstation. Sony basically ported it to PS2 without his knowledge but still credited him.
No lie, this game is directly responsible for me being alive. I was at my most suicidal and seriously planning on killing myself, then this game was announced. I promised myself I would hold on long enough to get to play it, and thankfully my mental state improved along the way
@@palkay875 I mean, I was 23, my first major relationship had blown up a year earlier right after I put a down payment on an engagement ring (was able to get it back, used it to get a PS3), and I just felt like I had nothing to hope for. I was miserable, but seeing the first Game Informer article about this game made me decide I at least had to play it before I die.
Not gonna lie, Juri Han WAS what sold me on Street Fighter 4 in the first place. Used to play some old version of Alpha on the Ps1 when I was a kid, but that was mostly mashing and not really playing. Juri's design was just that powerful.
I remember spending a whole day trying to unlock gouken and akuma on the base game for a friend and then a week later he tells me that super street fighter 4 was coming out and it had everybody unlocked already
Akuma: Unlock the rest of the characters, then use a character you already beaten arcade mode with to get 1 perfect & 2 Ultra Finishers, after you beat Seth, Akuma will appear beat him and he'll be unlocked. Gouken: After unlocking Akuma, beat arcade with him and after that you a character you already beaten arcade with to get 1 Perfect, 3 Ultra Finishers, 5 First Attacks & 1 Focus Attack, after you beat Seth, Gouken will appear beat him and he'll be unlocked.
Yeah, it wasn't a complete lie because Ono did mention pre-release that they'd consider DLC updates for Super, as stated in the video. So if you bought Super you didn't need to pay full price for any more versions.
Yeah, it really irritates me that some people continue to act like Capcom is still using that old business model. Super was the last time they did that, and it was ten years ago. Regardless of opinions on gameplay, SFV's content distribution system is probably the best that's ever been made for a fighting game.
So true, they even dropped the whole tournament plot even though they kept the annoying announcer's voice and comments in the 5th one, that doesn't make any sense (actually nothing makes any sense in the last one). And don't get me started on the story mode which is just a lazy work instead of the original one ending per characters.
Actually it wasn't a lie. Ono was specifically talking about needing to buy the entire game over again. Arcade Edition and Ultra were both just dlc updates.
Although fighting games in general were struggling after the 90s.... the "Dark Ages" only happend to Capcom Fanboys.... GGear began, the 3D fighters kept making a game for themselves and outputting new titles (Tekken, DOA, and VFighter), MK re-invented itself and kept the spirit alive, and of course SNK had some titles to show as well.... So no, the period was missing capcom, but it wasn't like "there wasn't anything new to play".... For this game in question, it was the only updated version of SF4 that actually deserve a repackage due to the bonuses and 10 characters when compared to the future update/re-releases (arcade and ultra) edditions, but Ur correct, it was sold on a lie at the end of things.... I'm looking forward to continued coverge on fighting games, specially SNK's. Thanks and keep up the great work Ps: When's MK??, is popular right now, it has a long history, great cast and lore, and spin-offs... plenty to cover
That was the worst era of MK until they would pull a Street Fighter IV with MK9 complete with abandoning 2.5D gameplay and eventually pull their own SFV afterwards.
Being a huge fighting game fan, I agree. The genre was far from done. Even Indies came into the genre, which got interesting. I just wish some games didn't become vaporware. Some, like MindArms, showed a lot of promise.
It was a dark age for everyone regardless of what fighting game they played. Fighting games sold poorly or worse than they used to. Most of the people buying fighting games at the time were people that were already into fighting games, and that number was dwindling.
I said this before, and I’ll say it again: Street Fighter 6 is Capcom’s make-or-break title. If the game fails to reach the masses critically, it will be the end of Capcom’s long reign over the FGC. It could be the end of their FG division, sorry if this sounds too exaggerated (it definitely is). If we wanna save Capcom’s _other fighters_ (Darkstalkers, Rival Schools, Power Stone, Cyberbots, Red Earth, Star Gladiator, Saturday Night Slam Masters, etc.), then we need to show them that we still care, but at the same time, show that we won’t put up with their shady tactics anymore. Barebones vanilla release, unnecessary advertisements, mixed Rollback online, eSports promotions; those things have to stop, have to go.
Every player should be reminded that there's a pro gamer in all of us, not be made to feel like we're trash by comparing our tech to eSports, I speak truth too being that if I was to go back into the last of us online games, everyone will know my name for identifying cheaters with a simple trick in bills town, so yeah, they should cut the eSports bullshit out as it's really unfair taunting people with it, as we all have a game type we shine in even if we don't play the genre
Wow... I knew that SF5 brought lots of controversy and made many people angry but I never thought it would be so hard to the point of threatening its evidence as a competitive game. It is still so prominent on tournaments even today. Personally, I prefer 4. There are a few things that I dislike about 5 and all the ridiculous controvesy during its launch. 4 just seems more fun and engaging
Ima I never said if SF6 bombs, the FGC dies. I said it would be the end of _Capcom’s_ reign on the FGC, they’ll most likely be dethroned by Namco or Arc System Works as the top dog. It’s only Capcom’s fighting game division that’s suffering. Fighting games will continue to exist and evolve (especially with rollback), with or without Capcom.
I'd be down for a Ultra Street Fighter IV: Iron Fist Edition AKA port over all the Tekken characters and costumes from SFXT. Possibly add a tag mode... I think I might just want a better gemless version of SFXT....
In fairness gems haven't been an issue for year as all characters were given the same preset gems to choose from. SFxT is still played competitively to this day and has a fairly good community. Check it out
There's a handful of character assets they could use too. I'm still annoyed that Mike Haggar from MvC3 never came to a final version of SF4. I'd buy an upgrade package.
To be fair, the Super Street Fighter 4 disc I bought in 2010 was the last disc I had to buy. Further revisions were available as dlc for around ~15$ a piece(if I recall). Had they not put out new physical releases, they would have technically kept their promise.
THG, you forgot to mention you could upgrade your SSF4 disc to SSF4AE it was a $15 DLC, the same for USF4, it was a $15 DLC, and you could play them with your SSF4 disc. They even made it retro-compatible to USF4/AE players could play SSF4 players as long as they didn't use a character that doesn't exist in ssf4. Also, after AE, there was a free balance patch called AE2012 because yun and yang were too strong.
Yeah, I remember the qoute as ‘the only disc you will ever need to buy is super’ and that was true. Further more i alway compare with madden or fifa. Hardcore fans buy new versions day one. Casual fans can skip...one or two versions.
I liked the SF IV format of a Re-release every two years over SFV’s “Let’s make a new DLC pack every 6 months.” I don’t like playing a game and seeing padlocks over other characters if I’ve paid money for a game...
please... when you paid money for the game... you knew how many characters you were getting. there was no "the game has 30 characters" in the store page and when you got in you onyl had acess to 25 or something... and you could even get a character or two without paying money for them
Street Fighter IV was a breath of fresh air Street Fighter been gone for ages but I wish IV took place after 3rd Strike since we don't know what happened after 3 Capcom love doing the Shadaloo story over and over again.
@@Drebin1989 - Blame SF3 itself & Capcom for making it into a 90's breakfast cereal commercial, turned fighter. The roster was corny & hipstered out, only boring old Ken & Ryu returned. The stages looked flat & technically unimpressive, when compared with the previous game that was also running on weaker hardware. Having to choose one super only + the wacky move animations & banana-hammock characters really made the game look like a joke when compared to the grittier SF2 series. No one cared about it until that stupid esports video of Daigo & Wong's super parry went viral.
It's naive to believe there wouldn't have been additional releases. That said I got all of them as it was only $20 to increase each time and $15 for the final being a huge fan.
There was actually a whole thing about SF4. The game wasn't originally designed with adding additional content in mind. When the game became popular, and Capcom wanted an update, they ended up having to rework just about everything to allow the ability to add content. That's the reason Super was a separate release, but Arcade Edition and Ultra weren't.
I actually bought this game because they said there would not be any more revisions. Still have it, and never picked up any of the others. Although I did eventually buy Ultra for PC (on sale) because I'm building a home arcade. But yeah, I felt burnt by the lie. Never picked up Street Fighter X Tekken either, but to be fair, no one else did either.
Holy crap! This is exactly what happened to me. I got a PS3, got excited for what the definitive version of street fighter IV would be. Did my homework and read that this was the only revision. I buy it cheap, and within a couple months, Arcade Edition comes out. I was pissed. Many years later, long after street fighter V comes out did I upgraded to Ultra
I mostly remember Super Street Fighter 4 for these things. 1: I bought the special edition of Street Fighter 4 and went to sell it back to Gamestop to only get a middle finger of a refund. 2: I ended up Pre Ordering Super Street Fighter 4 and got these thumb wrestler cover of 2 characters. 3: How much I hated the fact that another version of Street Fighter 4 was announced after and I had enough already of CAPCOM milking every Street Fighter with another upgraded version so i got rid of SSF4. 4: I only play the classic Street Fighter Alpha Anthology on my ps2 and Street Fighter Anniversary Collection with all the Street Fighter 2 plus Street Fighter 3 3rd Strike with it if I want to play Street Fighter now.
Uh, you do know Arcade Edition and Ultra were both just dlc, right? You didn't have to buy the entire game again. Super was the last time they ever did that.
I'm still waiting for Top Hat to get to his video of ULTRA STREET FIGHT 4❗❗❗. He can talk about how ultra Combo double and red focus change the strategies of the game and the additional characters. Also why professional players are scared to talk about how much better ultra is than SF5
Could it be that Capcom gave the order to make more versions of SF4 after the producer said he wasn't interested in making more? If that were the case, that wouldn't make him a liar, he would have been mistaken. I got SF4 and wasn't in a hurry to get SSF4. Then SSF4:AE was released, and I eventually got that one.
Mega Ultra Super Street Fighter 4: The Newest But Probably Not Last Challengers I loved the video! I had no idea that Ono had said that; that is hilarious. I've only played the 3D edition, but these others looked pretty great too.
I could swore that ae and ultra were available as DLCs and you only really needed to have use the SUPER disc... I dont remember having to buy a physical ULTRA version. ... i don't even remember a CHAMPION edition. I thought ULTRA was the last one...
Yes your right. They were DLC. Sure the naming scheme went againts their promise but you didn't need to buy a new version to play the game. He makes this like it was some big plot to fool people or trick them but a lot of is was based on demand and the current state of gaming. People wanted DLC but the original set up was not set properly for those kind of updates at the time. So they opted for a DLC pack and just update everything at once. Also the updates were very generous was 14.99 AE: 2012 was free. Ultra was also 14.99 and all you needed was Super SFIV to do it. Also Ultra had a mode to play old versions of those characters.
I honestly dont min buying revisions of Street Fighter games. Or any game. It makes for a good collection especially when there extra stuff both little or big, plus i think its fun buying those revisions too (when the revised game isnt near 40-60 bucks......). But i think it would have been better if Ultra Street fighter 4 was named Hyper Street Fighter 4 instead because why not be consistent lol. Anyway i love playing this back in 2010. I was the first SF4 game i played too before playing a little of the vanilla SF4. I skipped out on Arcade Edition because i was ignorant to the fact that it was on consoles so i gotten Ultra SF4 later down the run. And I dont regret it either because even more fighters got into the game. The only thing i could ask for when it comes to SF4 is releasing a Complete version of the game that not only has some DLC but ALL OF IT. (Unless that is USF4 then nevermind) lol
I was so pissed, I had Super Street Fighter IV and then I found out that Arcade edition existed. Already outta luck so I had to wait 3 years later to try and get only for them to announce Ultra, and how I got that version is a miracle above me 😂
What i learned about this franchise is that you have to buy the newest street fighter 3 or 4 years after their release to get the full complete game let's be real street fighter 6 won't be a complete game and will have a bunch of releases with minor changes again
To be fair, they weren't lying at the time when they said it. street fighter 4 arcade editon was intended for arcades only and got released because of fan demand and Ultra Street Fighter 4 was released as damage control because Street Fighter X Tekken failed so hard and Champion Edition is an android port of Street Fighter 4 Volt for iOS. for all the research you do there seems to be just as much that you don't do.
'After all, what sort of person would buy the same fighting game 3 times over?' As someone who owns vanilla SF4, Arcade Edition and Ultra, I thoroughly hate myself and you for the reminder.
9:13 so an idea for the next Handhelds around the world would be reviewing Super SF IV for 3DS while traveling to Turkey and checking on turkish oil wrestling?
Actually in one sense Capcom did keep their promise and tell the truth. If you bought the Super Street Fighter Four disc, you could buy paid downloadable content which are all the future versions for anywhere from five bucks to 20 bucks depending on how major the difference between the last step and the newer step is. And the funny thing is all those versions of Street Fighter 4 except the original vanilla version are accessible with any combination of super and beyond disc and downloads make up the rest.
Sf4, 2009 was an amazing year. Now sf4 (along with indestructible music) now is nestolgic for a time in my life when I finally felt excited about street fighter again since 1990-2 when I got tonplay sf2 at the pizza joints and arcades. It did happen to fizzle out butbwhen sf5 came out... it killed sf4 and a lot of people including myself just couldn't get into sf5. I'd much rather play usf4 today then 5 or 6.
if you had super Street fighter 4 then you didn't need arcade edition or ultra you were able to get all the extra DLC and the modes. So technically they didn't lie. I mean it's still a load of crap but technically...
Here's my SF4 story. I preordered from Game Crazy. They got shorted as they always did, and I didn't get my preorder until the 2nd shipment, and they tried to steal my preorder coin and act like I wasn't supposed to get one. I specifically recall sitting in Outback Steakhouse about to head over, and getting the phone call from them. I was really upset. That was the last game I ever preordered with them, and let them know every time after where they tried to pressure me into a preorder. I still own my SF4 TE fightstick my wife surprised me with. Still one of the favorite things I own. Mained Vega, then Rose, then Juri until they nerfed her in "arcade edition" there at the end. I loved the music. I loved the art. The stories were adorable and light hearted. The new characters were on point. Ultra was great. I didn't appreciate the ludicrous punishing curve of single player mode. And always bugged me how the NPCs didn't wear alt-skins that I purchased. Netcode was pretty bad but I overall had a lot of fun.
No what was said and meant is SSF4 is the last disc you would need to play the game. Every other update would be DLC and that was true. Arcade Edition and Ultra had optional disc but they weren't necessary. You could just download it and use the SSF4 disc. We can rightfully give Capcom a lot of flack for their decisions, this ain't one of em.
On the back of the game it was printed that this version was the definitive one, so I bought it. And so I didn't get the next revision, because of the exact reason why I bought the definitive edition, namely not to buy another one. I suspect they were already working on sf ultra, because sf super arcade edition was on sale at the time I bought it.
Capcom Really Drove Me Crazy During The Street Fighter 4 Era. Shortly After My Dad Bought His Ps3 (Which Became Mine), I Bought Sf4 Shortly After It Was Released. And Then Came The Teasers Of Super Sf4. The Lineup Of New Characters (Particularly Juri, Guy And Cody) Made Me Buy It With No Regrets. I Was Hoping Capcom Would Not Make Another New Version. Sometime Later I Bought Super Sf4 Arcade Edition When Its Price Went Down. I Liked Evil Ryu So I Bought It And Ended Up With 3 Versions Of Sf4 In My Inventory. When I Finally Saw Ultra Sf4, I Went “No More! No More! Shame On You, Capcom, For Making Me Over-Spend On Your Nasty Habits!” I Didn’T Bother To Buy Ultra As Most Of Its New Line-Up Of Characters Were Already Present In The Other Capcom Masterpiece - Street Fighter X Tekken. Also, None Of This Game’S New Characters Looked Interesting To Me. I Managed To Sell Sf4 And Super Sf4 For Some Loose Change. All I Have Now Is Super Sf4 Arcade Edition. And Playing As Juri And Evil Ryu Is Already Enough For Me. It’S Like How Many Gamers Chose Street Fighter 2 Special Champion Edition Over Super Street Fighter 2 During The 16-Bit (Sega Mega Drive) Era.
To be fair my physical copy Super Street Fighter IV I bought, I was able to upgrade up via DLC add on's. All the way to Omega. I still ended up getting the game like 3 times on various Home systems.
I played all the console versions of Street Fighter IV except the Ultra version lol. The version I played the most was the original with the cheesy pop song. Wish it had a story mode but still great game.
@D core As I said that's a opinion cause mk 3 was the only game they really ever did that with since Midway is a different company than Neatherealm if we want to be technical plus I was commenting on the game being trash, but hey do you.
There's an enormous difference between telling people something and knowing you're not telling the truth and what happened here. Capcom released new versions of the game because the players kept asking for more. The competitive scene was going hard core and releasing new versions with more characters was going to be the only way to keep the game alive, plain and simple. This is also why those newer versions all replaced the previous versions at retail. So if anything, the title of this video is much more a lie than anything Capcom did or said.
I thought it was just one game since I just kept upgrading my copy of super street fighter 4 until ultra. So I bought super and just updated it. I didn't have to buy another version. I just bought the new "season pass". Technically it sounds like Ono kept his word. I was not forced to go out and buy a new full game. Just pay for the update DLC as Ono mentioned. I was not forced to buy a new street fighter 4. I was FORCED to update the definitive game lol. Still a good video as always :D! EDIT: also if it was different in your region I retract my statement. Idk how it worked everywhere else.
"the dark age" lol I remember getting into street fighter ex2 plus and MVC2 around that time. People were really into Mvc2 at the arcade from what I remember.
Caveat: Super IV is the base game you buy and everything else is dlc that can be purchased for $15 a piece. Your video makes an okay point but it's slightly disingenuous.
Nah. The physical releases are all still the same vanilla SF5 disc, though the disc art does get updated. Physical copies just come with code bundles that vary by version.
@@TexasHollowEarth All the different versions of Street Fighter 4(after super) could use the same original Super Street Fighter 4 disc as well though. You didn't have to buy new physical releases, the other updates were just DLC for around 15$(much cheaper than SFV's 30$ seasons)
Still my all time favorite SF game in the franchise! Truly THE LAST great game in the franchise, and in my opinion, the best way to close out the game. Too bad 5 is a thing...
I remember that announcement. SFIV had a neat idea. But.. Going back before SF3 (as it was the future) So IV is 2.5 🤦♂️ Great soundtrack, art style, roster, and everything else. But it was frustrating when Ultra was released later. Like yeah, we all had that feeling. Roster did feel a bit bloated. But it was neat they brought so many in. And full circle with Final Fight. There was an animation based on IV. "The Ties That Bind". Supposed to connect the main narrative from original edition of IV. But the animation style was... Um.. not so great. And neither was the story.. just okay. The animation scenarios in game of IV looked better in comparison. But a plus, the soundtrack was included with the film. I do love IV, but Ultra really pushed it. But I really wish we had an SF entry after 3TS. And V also did a step back being before 3.. Does SF fear moving forward or am I seeing things? SFV video next 😉
Arcade edition and ultra were dlc i think costing £10 and £15 respectively, seems like a decent deal considering the first gave 4 characters and the second gave 5 with new stages. sounds similar to a kombat pack but we dont like to point fingers at netherealm studios. fairplay super street fighter 4 being its own game is kinda bullshit but i think there is too much hate for the dlcs that came with it, literally tekken and mortal kombat have similar formulas now and people love it.
The SNES Ranma 1/2 trio (In the United States it would be Street Combat, Ranma 1/2 Hard Battle, and the canceled Ranma 1/2 Anything Goes Martial Arts).
I'm going to respectfully disagree here. Yes they did lie about making other expansions but what we did end up getting was 44 characters, fantastic netcode and a fairly balanced game for about $130 if you bought all versions/expansions compared to the $204 you would spend on SFVs 40 characters and what ever other issues you have to stomach with that game
Top Hat Gaming Man, I have some suggested fighting and beat 'em up games that you may cover in the future. Beat 'em Ups: Battle Circuit The King of the Dragons Knights of the Round River City Ransom 64th Street: A Detective Story Die Hard Arcade Dynamite Cop Spikeout: Digital Battle Online Spikeout: Battle Street Fighting games: Tekken (original) X-Men: Children of the Atom Super Gem Fighter Mini Mix The King of Fighters '95 Mega Man: The Power Battle Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters Mortal Kombat II Street Fighter X Tekken Blazblue: Calamity Trigger SoulCalibur
And now we have Street Fighter V: -Standard edition -Arcade edition -Champion edition I'm just waiting on Super Hyper Alpha EX WWE World Heavyweight Championship edition to come out now.
I don't remember, but for pc version, one of or two of those updates were free, at least on PC. I think it was from SSF4 to SSF4ae. But at least was a full game from start, and a good one. Not the trainwreck known as SF5, which still surprises me how many ppl joined that bandwagon just because of its name, when capcom tried to kill sf4 in that e-sport BS. People seems to not understand they really need to vote with their wallets if they do not want that kind of... stuff.
While there in the releasing mood can We please get a Streetfighter 5 Xbox Edition! rotfl But searlsy make it happen Capcom and Mircosoft! Don't think it will happen because of Sony's involvement in the OG PS4 version! :(
Great video as always. Never cared for SF4, it’s game play, art style or anything really... I like SF5 as a game much more but hate the DLC format of 5...I feel Capcom needs to plan out their product statigies better
At least it wasn't like the 1990s where fans or arcade operators had to buy completely new versions of the game. Super SF4 was sold at discount for those who already owned SF4, and Ultra also wasn't a $60 release. It's kind of annoying in the sense that you have to re-learn aspects of the game that were modified for the new version, but at the same time, it helped inject new life into the online community so it was easier to find matches. I saw these updates as quality of life upgrades, and it made SF4 a relevant game for longer than if it was just vanilla SF4 the entire time.
Meh. I was down for AE and Ultra's add ins/tweaks. I bought SFIV, SSFIV, and the AE and Ultra DLC for SSFIV. I liked the game so much (still do, and still play it regularly). Now what I DID see as a cash grab has been SFV. Hard pass on that. I'll wait to see what comes next. SFV just seems like a retread of IV.
Ultra Street Fighter IV was a result of three things. 1. Street Fighter x Tekken 2012 update failing to revive the game. 2. Negotiations with Sony lead to them funding a port of Ultra Street Fighter 4 and Street Fighter V for the (at the time) upcoming PS4. 3. Capcom were knee deep in financial issues going into what is now current gen. That's why they ported all the stages and all the characters they could pull from Street Fighter x Tekken. To play devil's advocate, anybody who actually waited 7-8 years to play complete version wasn't ever going to get it with the new shiny thing around the corner. Seeing a pattern yet? I hate these practices but some point you either buy it for dirty cheap with the DLC or never play it at all.
It’s funny. I own Ultra in PS4, 3D on my DS, OG and Arcade on Xbox. But when I use Arcade for Xbox is allowed me to update it to Ultra. So maybe it meant “Super is the last version with a disc you’ll need”; probably not
When I heard that it was going to be the last version of SF4, I said out loud: "Yeah, right, and Liu Kang will be playable, too."
I was the 69th like
Really sf 2 had many different version I expected the same for 4 and best believe I got all of them too
Capcom lies their ass off all the time.
"RE4 is a Gamecube exclusive!"
Companies always do this shit
yeah, releasing 'exclusives' on other platforms long after the original release is fine, but the PS2 release within the year was bullshit and a greedy cash grab.
But yeah capcom are bastards. I haven't even touched Street Fighter 5 because I knew it would be a good 5 years before I could buy a version without missing characters that would piss me off to see released later.
It was a timed exclusive lol

Yep that's how I got Ultra. I felt like I wasn't suppose to have it because it was a backdoor way to get it lol.
Yeah, it wasn't a complete lie because Ono did mention pre-release that they'd consider DLC updates for Super, as stated in the video. So if you bought Super you didn't need to pay full price for any more versions.
@@bigcade554 yep exactly. I guess if they just named it super + the year this video wouldnt exist.
Also forgot to mention that Super Street fighter IV was a 30 dollar game in launch.
Yeah, it really irritates me that some people continue to act like Capcom is still using that old business model. Super was the last time they did that, and it was ten years ago. Regardless of opinions on gameplay, SFV's content distribution system is probably the best that's ever been made for a fighting game.
Im so sad they never brought back the “defeated” screens😢😢
I miss that
So true, they even dropped the whole tournament plot even though they kept the annoying announcer's voice and comments in the 5th one, that doesn't make any sense (actually nothing makes any sense in the last one). And don't get me started on the story mode which is just a lazy work instead of the original one ending per characters.
sf3 second impact's being the best!
Capcom, lying? To be honest that is not surprising at all!
Remember the capcom 5
Not trying to defend capcom but I'd bet a dollar that they weren't even thinking of doing ultra street fighter 4 but sfxt death changed plans
They've already got the fourth revision of SFVI planned. "Street Fighter VI: Super Turbo Turd Puncher Edition in 3D for Matchmaking Service X Plus"
“Only revision you will receive”
THAT IS BULL____! (Blazing)
Actually it wasn't a lie. Ono was specifically talking about needing to buy the entire game over again. Arcade Edition and Ultra were both just dlc updates.
gryphman ok then
Although fighting games in general were struggling after the 90s.... the "Dark Ages" only happend to Capcom Fanboys....
Thanks and keep up the great work
Ps: When's MK??, is popular right now, it has a long history, great cast and lore, and spin-offs... plenty to cover
That was the worst era of MK until they would pull a Street Fighter IV with MK9 complete with abandoning 2.5D gameplay and eventually pull their own SFV afterwards.
3d MK was trash
Being a huge fighting game fan, I agree. The genre was far from done. Even Indies came into the genre, which got interesting. I just wish some games didn't become vaporware. Some, like MindArms, showed a lot of promise.
It was a dark age for everyone regardless of what fighting game they played. Fighting games sold poorly or worse than they used to. Most of the people buying fighting games at the time were people that were already into fighting games, and that number was dwindling.
@@spaceduck67221 nah bro nah it wasn’t honestly
Yeah or people will just call it a new dark age and again act like the fighting game genre died
@@Omnishredder how is it taunting? serious question.
I'd be down for a Ultra Street Fighter IV: Iron Fist Edition
AKA port over all the Tekken characters and costumes from SFXT.

I actually still own this game.
It's a pretty good one.
I mained Ken and Cody in this one.
Would ask if you wanna play but I need to sort out my internet
Also I main Ryu and Guy (along with Sakura) ironically
@@makotoyuki345 ^ couple of dp mashing shoto scrubs . .
I'm a Cody main too, he is one of the most fun characters to play as
I main-ed Guy, Ken and Sakura
For me it was Guy, Rose, Dudley, Gouken, and Deejay.
That photo of the producer in chunli outfit with his figurine in hand is awesome
In a way... Ono was right. I still own Super SF4 and was able to download Arcade and Ultra Edition without having to go out and re-buy the disc.
I liked the SF IV format of a Re-release every two years over SFV’s “Let’s make a new DLC pack every 6 months.” I don’t like playing a game and seeing padlocks over other characters if I’ve paid money for a game...
Sf5 became a joke
I love them both (4 more so) but there was no excuse for sf5s vanilla release.
please... when you paid money for the game... you knew how many characters you were getting. there was no "the game has 30 characters" in the store page and when you got in you onyl had acess to 25 or something... and you could even get a character or two without paying money for them
Street Fighter IV was a breath of fresh air Street Fighter been gone for ages but I wish IV took place after 3rd Strike since we don't know what happened after 3 Capcom love doing the Shadaloo story over and over again.
At least Shadaloo is finished for good in 5, and 5 also sets the stage for 3’s Illuminati plot continuation
Now they HAVE to continue it in 6
Can’t wait!
WHEN this game was out. NOBODY KNEW WHAT HAPPENED JUST BEFORE SF3
Blame the fans shunning Street Fighter 3 the way they did when it first came out. Both the game and its characters.
I remember how they got busted on Ultra Street Fighter 4 when someone data minded super street fighter 4 on the pc.
Even if he does, expect no more than basic Wikipedia stuff sprinkled with 2-5 quotes from gaming journalist sites like IGN and a ridiculous title.
Mega Ultra Super Street Fighter 4: The Newest But Probably Not Last Challengers
I loved the video!
Already outta luck so I had to wait 3 years later to try and get only for them to announce Ultra, and how I got that version is a miracle above me 😂
There's a add-on to update it to Ultra.
What i learned about this franchise is that you have to buy the newest street fighter 3 or 4 years after their release to get the full complete game let's be real street fighter 6 won't be a complete game and will have a bunch of releases with minor changes again
I own all 4 versions of SF4. Made new friends for life with this iteration of the franchise. No regrets.
'After all, what sort of person would buy the same fighting game 3 times over?'
As someone who owns vanilla SF4, Arcade Edition and Ultra, I thoroughly hate myself and you for the reminder.
9:13 so an idea for the next Handhelds around the world would be reviewing Super SF IV for 3DS while traveling to Turkey and checking on turkish oil wrestling?
Sf4 has a special place in my heart 😳
The 3D version may just be the single best game on the 3DS.
Ngl the 3DS DOA game is legit phenomenal
Regarding only fighting games, that may be true. Smash and DOA are also excellent, though.
I bought it when i saw it on eshop! Felt weird at first but then you start to enjoy it haha
Best launch title* a pretty good port by all means but the 3DS has a large library of other games
It's not a lie if Ono believed his own words at the time.
Give me Ultra Street Fighter IV for my Switch!!!!!
I finally bought ultra SF4 after buying a Ps4 and was glad that was it. No SF 4 madness....til SF5 started their DLC& update shenanigans ...
tbf tho you dont need to buy anything other than base sfv. all balance changes and updates are free
I own every version of this game and some duplicates because of multiple consoles. It's a classic.
I played all the console versions of Street Fighter IV except the Ultra version lol. The version I played the most was the original with the cheesy pop song. Wish it had a story mode but still great game.
There's a add-on to update it to Ultra.
I researched many games after the PS3 fell out, and purchased Ultra Street Fighter 4 after figuring out that it was the final edition of the series.
I am not a fan of the Street Farter series as Capcom seems to Fart one out every few months!
@D core Of course you seen hurt by what he said...its his opinion.
@D core As I said that's a opinion cause mk 3 was the only game they really ever did that with since Midway is a different company than Neatherealm if we want to be technical plus I was commenting on the game being trash, but hey do you.
@D core Plus you brought another game series into this and it wasn't even brought up so what was the point in that?
but you could upgrade from super up to ultra. ssf4 should of been the same for sf4 rather than having to pay for a full price game again
Super Street Fighter 4 was the last game. Arcade Edition and Ultra were DLC updates.
Top Hat Gaming Man You should do Mega Man fighting games as well
Yes!!
I convinced Ultra only exists because xTekken tanked so bad
THEY LIED TO US???............NOOOO SERIOUSLY NOW?!?
Come on it's not the first or the last time people grow up a little will ya!
"the dark age" lol I remember getting into street fighter ex2 plus and MVC2 around that time. People were really into Mvc2 at the arcade from what I remember.
Caveat:
Super IV is the base game you buy and everything else is dlc that can be purchased for $15 a piece. Your video makes an okay point but it's slightly disingenuous.
Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition Ver. 2012. Yes that was the full name before Ultra came out lol.
Capcom did the same thing with SFV!!!
Nah. The physical releases are all still the same vanilla SF5 disc, though the disc art does get updated. Physical copies just come with code bundles that vary by version.
They said championship edition was the last. Now they are adding another season.
@@adamabbas1487 when?
@@alejandrocanela691 - End of the year. November-ish, if I remember correctly.
Agree. I don't even enjoy watching it, let alone play it
I remember that announcement. SFIV had a neat idea. But..
Going back before SF3 (as it was the future)
So IV is 2.5 🤦♂️
Great soundtrack, art style, roster, and everything else.
No, there is AE, Ultra, and SFxTK
It’s probably because of how fans shunned Street Fighter 3 when it first came out.
Capcom lies cuz despite the lying, people will still buy their products
I'm going to respectfully disagree here. Yes they did lie about making other expansions but what we did end up getting was 44 characters, fantastic netcode and a fairly balanced game for about $130 if you bought all versions/expansions compared to the $204 you would spend on SFVs 40 characters and what ever other issues you have to stomach with that game
Was it a lie? Everything after Super was a glorified character pack with balance patches DLC

2008?! How was SF IV out before HDR and where? "09ers" ring a bell? 👀🤨😂
It was never a lie rather a troll by Yoshinori Ono especially if he really said "ULTRA" version
Is there a spreadsheet listing the Characters in each Street fighter game/platform to see who isn't in which? I rather enjoy spreadsheets. Indeed.
And now we have Street Fighter V:
-Standard edition
-Arcade edition
-Champion edition
I'm just waiting on Super Hyper Alpha EX WWE World Heavyweight Championship edition to come out now.
People seems to not understand they really need to vote with their wallets if they do not want that kind of... stuff.
you got a lot of mileage of "they said super was the last BUT they released ultra!!!" and the click baity title
Wait a minute.. I have SSFIV the disk and I only updated to Ultra with it. So... It's not really a big lie.. as we had both options
And here we are now adays with sfv, sfv arcade edition , sf5 championship edition. Unbelievable.
While there in the releasing mood can We please get a Streetfighter 5 Xbox Edition! rotfl But searlsy make it happen Capcom and Mircosoft! Don't think it will happen because of Sony's involvement in the OG PS4 version! :(
Ultra street fighter 4 needs to be ported to Nintendo Switch
Great video as always. Never cared for SF4, it’s game play, art style or anything really... I like SF5 as a game much more but hate the DLC format of 5...I feel Capcom needs to plan out their product statigies better
Tbf in there defence they made ultra street fighter 4 cause street fighter x tekken was a dumpster fire and the net code was trash as well
At least it wasn't like the 1990s where fans or arcade operators had to buy completely new versions of the game.
Still think I'd like to see Top Hat Gaming Man do a NetFlix series!
When they released SSF4, I quit buying their games. Looooong time Capcom fighter fan. Arcade and console player.
Did you have that same energy with Street Fighter 2
@Lassi Kinnunen .....that's why I asked this person that question
2 is the best but I love 4 and 5 .I hate those cartoon looking graphics with no shading and detailing
as much as updates annoy me i really did enjoy the latest update of SFV champion edition, but... I KNOW IT IS NOT THE LAST VERSION LOL
Street Fighter V The game Capcom refuse to let it die.
Why should they? It's a good game! The only thing I hate is the Netcode.
The versión ultra Is very extense of the roster, many characters of the arcade versión no, greetings from mexico...
A HD remaster of SFIV would be fine IMO
So maybe it meant “Super is the last version with a disc you’ll need”; probably not
And then they made much worse mistakes in Street Fighter V, proving that Capcom never learns from mistakes.
