I remember that the input lag even in single player mode was insane. You press a button and you could read war and peace twice and finally then technique will be executed. Tekken 7 has one of the best value for money base versions you can come across, but the season passes are more expensive.
Couple of things the year it broke 5k at evo was the year it launched and can largely be attributed to being the hype train from the massive success that was sf4. People by in large made the effort to go to that evo because it was the beginning of a new ride they had every reason to expect would be awesome. Most people paid for entry and travel way before the game was out. From a fgc point of view sf5 was also a disaster with not only being a poor street fighter gameplay wise but also it managed to wreak havoc on the fgc community numbers post release. Big websites lost thousands of regulars, local events started to dry up, streamers lost viewership etc. Also despite this sfv outsold sf4 thanks to the groundwork layed by sf4 and mvc3. In short prior to the release sf5 had everything going for it and it blew it big time for casual (who are the grassroots of the fgc) and for the fgc. God I hope they learn lessons for sf6
Because of this game, I never buy a new capcom game. I make sure to get it used off eBay. Capcom ripped me off by selling me a demo and season pass for $80.
As someone who bought the game Day 1, there's things I wanted to add of why the game pissed people off: - The Servers: Everything in the game ran on the servers, even if you were offline. In order to get Fight Money, you needed to be on the servers when completing something. There were times within that first month where the servers would randomly cut on you & if you were in a position where you were in a match or far in survivor mode, you'd have to restart from the beginning or the match was cancelled. In addition, there was no punishment for rage quitting for a long time. So you lost out on Fight Money if you were winning. Apparently, Capcom only had one person working on the entire netcode & server. - Character Changes & Balance Issues: For starters, there was 8 frames of intentional input lag added to the offline version of the game, making things practically unplayable. In addition, there were changes to characters that shouldn't have happened, Vega is the epitome of this, or balancing & gameplay decisions that made some characters horrible, *glares at Zangief*. Street fighter V is practically the epitome of what happens when you put more focus on trying to create your own scene over making a game as good as possible. You get something rushed out that had no reason to be released that not only pissed off casuals, but even parts of your hardcore base.
Also, something that i never see people talking about is the fact that there were more than double dlc characters than launch characters;come on, even on the dlc era, starting at 16 and finishing at 46 is just an insult to people's economy Edit: Yes, I know about fight money, but that is a joke,if you did all that was available,it wasn't near enough to buy even one character I can even bet that in CE all that is available for the 40 characters isn't equal to the fight money for all season five characters

SF3 has its own interesting history with player outrage. Most notably, the game originally was going to have no returning fighters. Fans were so furious about it that Capcom ended up adding Ryu and Ken, then Akuma in 2nd Impact, and finally Chunli in 3rd Strike.
I preordered this and marvel can capcom infinite. Capcom broke my heart with both of them and they’ll never get my money for a fighter again. And this comes after being an avid fan; enough so to have collected up pcb’s or their arcade games from the nineties
It's always cool to hear people's perspective on this game. Sure would like to hear you talk about the later versions, though considering the game still has upcoming DLC and most likely another final version, maybe a video about Champion Edition would fit better an year or so from now...
Despite SFV's disappointing release, the game has now fully redeemed itself through patches and further revisions like Arcade Edition and Champion Edition (both of which thankfully didn't require you rebuying the whole game, unlike the past games). Now, I would even go as far as saying it's the best Street Fighter game.
For me it also doesn't feel right. Perhaps that's why I couldn't get into Street Fighter IV as much as well, but love Street Fighter 3 third Strike and Capcom VS Snk 2 to this day over SFIV and SFV.

Probably the worst opinion I have but I actually really love playing SF 5 early days, sure it was super super rough around the edges and 16 characters is a bit abysmal for a AAA title but this was the first proper fighting game that I was able to learn at the same rate as the community. Of course not my first SF or fighting game but the first I went a step above being just a casual and well I got to feel like part of a community. I'm glad SF V is definitely in a MUCH better place but those early days are kinds special and nostalgic to me

Even today the game still feels unfinished and largely barren, the "fighting" part is really lackluster, and there's a certain cheapness present in the story mode cutscenes
@@MaskDeSmith There isn't a whole lot of playstyles you can play as compared to Street Fighter 4, just simple archetypes such as grapplers, shotos, etc.
@@kaiser9321 The story mode is largely badly written and retcons a ton of things that were established in previous Street Fighter game Street Fighter 3 3rd strike: fight for the future. It was said that Chun-Li played a very large role in taking down shadowloo and M. bison once and for all BUT in the story mode for Street Fighter V she barely does anything IMPORTANT and doesn't even finish off bison herself. Instead Ryu is the one to finally finish off bison and Karin was the one that led the charge to FINALLY take down shadowloo.
@@kaiser9321 Street Fighter V largely disrespects the classic Legacy characters. Both Chun-Li Guile and Cammy don't take down bison or shadowloo themselves, Ryu who has no connection with bison is the one that finally finishes him off, Cammy leaves the story mode after taking down decapre, Juri makes a quick Cameo appearance and doesn't take part in the final battle with M bison or shadowloo, FANG is the worst Street Fighter character and the most annoying, Rose doesn't even make an appearance in the entire story mode or even helps the heroes despite the fact that her SOUL POWER was the ONLY thing that has long been established in the lore/history of SF that could take down bison.
Despite the controversy, Street Fighter 5 has got to be one of my all time favourite fighting games. I wouldn't say it is as good as the masterpieces that 3rd Strike and Ultra 4 were but if you get the Championship Edition, it is a highly solid game with a strong roster with some fan favourites returning, some of my personal favourites were Charlie and (Mayor) Cody, as well as some fun to play as newcomers such as Rashid and Lucia (I know she was in Final Fight 3 but SFV was her first Street Fighter game), good overall mechanics, new additions which I actually liked such as the V Trigger, V Skill and special knock out zones, and a story mode, whilst flawed, was quite interesting even though I would've preferred it if Ryu actually did something except steal Charlie's kill right at the end as for the supposed main character, Ryu didn't actually do anything.
I was a day one buyer. Sigh.. it really bites how much was missing. Bare bones, small roster (and inaccessible music) only at certain points , character themes will play. I just couldn't recommend V to anyone. Back then, and now I still feel honestly sick that I was hyped, it wasn't ready. It was crap. Us day one buyers were actually beta players. Eventually more stuff rolled in, feature and content wise. But that would take awhile. Biggest downside, most of this was kept away in a season pass or optional out of pocket expenses. Sure you could acquire FM, the currency in V. But it would take forever, unless you're devoted to online play. Or ranking up. Censorship. Seriously this part bugs me. If we the players could have an option to turn those features back on. It's just silly. *It was based on their sponsors, which is why they took those segments away, Capcom felt it would not be presentable due to outside audiences. Uh.. it's just dumb, let the game keep it's personality. V day one, a big disappointment. Note: I'm not an e-sports fan. I might glance at some things. I just enjoy the game I look forward to more of your coverage of V, and other recent games this past gen Excellent video
Before i start i gotta say. I love the line of puns here! XD 2:36 That's the problem with most modern fighting games now (Not that older fighting games hadn't done this). It just seems to be the kind that just aims for the competitive, serious, esports gamers, rather than the casual, diehard, or deep Street Fighter fans. Not even just the SF fanbase, but any fighting game fanbase. So much to the point before you would see people who love fighting games for the roster, gameplay, fun factor, having things to do. But nowadays, you would mostly see people talk about liking fighting games for the netcode, frame rates, frame data, skill factor, buffing/nerfing certain fighters, update patches and DLC rather than just cheaper upgrades of the game, online lobbies and being able to find matches online with only just the online mode taken to account and with the notion "Fighting games are MEANT to be played with people not on you're own". And its like even when you do have things to do, it just doesn't feel like there's love put into it like in past games, or it don't feel like an arcade fighting game experience, especially. The only fighting games that came out that i feel have love put into them are more obscure ones (aside Mortal Kombat X since its not obscure) like Under-Night IN-BIRTH, Blade Strangers, and Nitroplus Blasterz (Surprised it was a sequel to a bad game). Fighting games pretty much just became a genre made for competitive esports fans not for gamers who want a good fun experience. Esports gamers done good with keeping fighting games alive, bu they also changed fighting games (and many other genres) for the worst only having devs cater to the competitive online gamers. And sadly Street Fighter V isn't entirely to blame for this this. I noticed this started when Marvel VS Capcom 3 came out. EDIT: Apparenty King of Fighters 12 was guilty of doing this long before Marvel VS Capcom 3 came out.
Thank goodness Yoshinori Ono is gone from Capcom he was burying Street Fighter legacy into the ground now we have a great team working on the Street Fighter games now a team that cares about the granchise.
I passed on this game due to the root-kit alone. I didn't even know that it lacked an Arcade Mode until this video. But if I'd bought it and found that out, I would've demanded a refund. Then again, I would rather that they'd just continued making more characters playable on SF4, but that's just me. Give 4 every character from 2, Alpha, and 3. That's what I want. :)
I was prepared to get a PS4 specifically because of Street Fighter V. Then I saw the negative reviews and the approach Capcom took with the Franchise and it was an easy no thanks. I'm not paying full price plus what would probably amount to the cost of an Xbox One X or PS5 on the reseller market for a game that will likely never be complete, despite all the updates and "upgrades". Paid DLC, Loot boxes and all those other forms of monetary transactions should be made illegal but that's how gaming is now and it's a real shame in my opinion.
One more thing that annoyed people about this game: When it was first announced, the game was also announced with support for Linux. The game released only on Windows and the Linux support was canceled some time after.
I play it now and love it, but at launch, it was so terrible, I dropped it and didn't give a second chance until Champion Edition. It took the game years to become what it should have been before launch.
It is true that back in 2016 when it was release Street Fighter V was a disaster of a fighting game...but now if you buy the Championship Edition you will have one of the better fighting titles of this generation
Other censorship done to the game you didn't mention. Chun Li camera angles also changed, Cammy's nipples removed, all the female characters breast jiggle movement physics (character select screen & in game) removed, black leather added to Juri's costume to cover up exposed flesh. Also in Laura's concept art you could see her butt and she was wearing a thong this was also covered up with black leather. Capcom decided to go full on religious puritanical with this game, and it really help it's sales (sarcasm)
@TSnintendogamer I've been a hard core Street Fighter fan since 1991. It's not about that it's about us as fans having to get a watered down version of what the artist that originally created the game intended, to appease people that quite frankly were never going to play the game to begin with. They were so worried about not offending this handful but then pissed off legions of fans by removing the material, and yes I believe that did effect the sales. Btw I own SFV on steam and PS4 ( the reason I didn't play it as much is i thought sfiv was a better game) but I could understand and respect someone's decision to not buy the game due to the censorship it's about chosing to not support and taking a stand against a company that is promoting that censorship the only way we can as fans with our dollars and really nothing else effects them more then when we protest this way. The same type of mentally that censored this game is the same type that would have covered the nude body's present in the Sistine Chapel. No artist original vision should be effected by a current political zeitgeist wether it be a massive mural of a video game.
@@eddylex4921 Producer Yoshinori Ono shares a lot of blame for why SFV failed (Including the game's censorship) and if you look at his other work it begins to make sense, The now infamous capcom/namco crossover failure that is Street Fighter X Tekken and Marvel Vs. It’s too bad Capcom messed up the release of SF5 so bad, then continued to nickel and dime its core fan base with all the iterations. Saying that, I think it’s a superior fighter to SF4 with better game dynamics. Also the sound track is the best in the series and deserves recognition.
Wait " then continued to nickel and dime its core fan base with all the iterations"? What? All the iterations? What they hell are you talking about there. In the course of 5 years its only been the original, SFV Arcade Edtion and lastly Champion Edition and that's all but you say it as if there were tons and this is 5 years too. You want nickle and diming look at Mortal Kombat 11, in the course of less than two year, yes you heard that right less than two years there have been 4 MK11 games. MK11, MK11 premium edition, MK11 Aftermath and MK11 Ultimate all without even reaching two years and its still getting standalone DLC separate from the Ultimate edition. Tekken 7 same thing 3 editions and the Ultimate Edition only has two seaon passes when it has 4 of them which means you can buy the ultimate and still need to get season pass 3 and season pass 4 which comes with a game mode and frame data. Now that's nickle and diming you when they sell you modes and frame data to play and learn when Tekken 7 came with the same amount of content as SFV or so. To this day people still call it incomplete and are boycotting it in the FGC because of season 4. Namco is the EA of fighters now. So yeah almost all fighters are worse than capcom but as SFV is more popular it takes the heat while the other worse games get less heat but are as guilty if not moreso. Remember MK11 has more versions in two years than SFV has in 5 years.
I'm thinking about getting "3 count bout" the SNK game on the Nintendo eShop for the switch. I'd very much appreciate a review of that game, since you have so many other great reviews on wrestling games.
Street Fighter V DLC Edition. It's all about DLC and Micro-Transaction's now. Imagine they introduced these games with everything at launch the price would easily be $100. Games wouldn't jump off the shelves.
I love Street Fighter and I own this game but I unfortunately haven't played it since they introduced the adverts prior to a battle and the multiple season passes. P robably 2 years or more since I last played it and I have no desire to.
I won't buy Street Fighter 5 yet. I'm sticking with Street Fighter: 30th Anniversary Collection and Ultra Street Fighter 4 for now. I won't buy Street Fighter 5 not until Capcom is done making a final updated version of the game.
never cared for sexualization in games. as long as gameplay is good, who cares. Also, it's just flat out pathetic to concern yourself with such things on fictional characters. They aren't real.
Hell yeah I wanna see a video about the arcade and champion editions of SF V. I wanna know if capcom released a definitive version that’s worth tracking down. I feel bad for the enthusiasts who paid top dollar for the incomplete early access version of the game and then paid for five season passes on top of that. Screw that. I’d rather buy the definitive version for a tenner on marketplace or gumtree
Great video I would like to hear about the other releases of streetfighter v I want to buy it but I dont known which version only ai want all the fighters story and costumes if A version exist with those specification
Champion edition is the definitive one. It has all of the fighters and costumes with the exception of the capcom cup DLC. 4 new characters will be released next year however. But if you complete the story and some trials I think you’ll amass enough in game currency to buy at least 2 of the 2021 characters
Totally agree.USF4 is simply the greatest and the most balanced fighting game of all time.SF5 is inferior in every way.I hope SF6 plays a lot more like USF4.
Gotta love how these publishers explain the reasons for their games platform exclusivity . "We partnered up with Sony because we share the same vision", What a load of tripe. Just be honest and say that Sony knocked at our door and when we answered they had a case full of money and were willing to pay us to not release the game on other consoles.

03:35 The lighting and ambience in the trailer looked so much better than in the same stage of the final game.
Because of this game, I never buy a new capcom game. I make sure to get it used off eBay.
Capcom ripped me off by selling me a demo and season pass for $80.
years later, the game still doesn't have an infinity timer option. shame the fans couldn't drum up enough outrage to remedy that
Love this channel so much!! Thanks a lot!!
As someone who bought the game Day 1, there's things I wanted to add of why the game pissed people off:
- The Servers: Everything in the game ran on the servers, even if you were offline.
AMEN Brother.......Preach It Loud!!!!!!!
Also, something that i never see people talking about is the fact that there were more than double dlc characters than launch characters;come on, even on the dlc era, starting at 16 and finishing at 46 is just an insult to people's economy
Edit: Yes, I know about fight money, but that is a joke,if you did all that was available,it wasn't near enough to buy even one character
I can even bet that in CE all that is available for the 40 characters isn't equal to the fight money for all season five characters
Capcom short changed early adopters of the game by crippling the game with micro transactions and removing key features that are a genre standard .
apparently demented zoomers "appreciate" these "features", as in "removed features"
Top Hat I've been binge watching your content since last week when the algorithm suggested you. I gotta say I-am-addicted. Gotta find or hope you do or have mortal kombat kontent but you've also made me realize, I want a channel that does what you do...but for famous creators. How they got started, where they are now and what's next. Loving the channel and looking forward to what comes next.
I bought this second hand for $18 Australian, and I felt ripped off. I look at the recent Championships edition in the store with utter disdain
I cant be the only one more annoyed that they just wont make it a story finally after part 3. Just make them all older.
SF3 has its own interesting history with player outrage. Most notably, the game originally was going to have no returning fighters. Fans were so furious about it that Capcom ended up adding Ryu and Ken, then Akuma in 2nd Impact, and finally Chunli in 3rd Strike.
Excellent coverage. Yes, please delve into the Arcade and Champion editions.
Another Great Video Sir. Top Hat
Hope there is a part 2, good fellow.
Your fighting game puns are gold.
Definitely would appreciate you covering the rest of the SFV update
2:37-3:02 best part, Imho. :)
All those fighting game puns LMAO
I'm pretty interested in the other half for Street Fighter V (Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition and Street Fighter V: Champion Edition).
I see Chun Li in a Top Hat Gaming Man video thumnail, I click.
BTW that lenghty pun in the beginning, why are you so british? Love it!
Street Fighter doesn't look right in 3d, and to me never will.
For me it also doesn't feel right.
Perhaps that's why I couldn't get into Street Fighter IV as much as well, but love Street Fighter 3 third Strike and Capcom VS Snk 2 to this day over SFIV and SFV.
4 looks amazing
4 looks off to me, but 5 looks great
looks better in 3d imo, SF4/5 are some of the best looking games
@@mondopatrick we are all different. As a person playing SF since 1989, I hate the 3d. The world was always a cartoon to me, which really brought out it's charm. This 3d look feels like a grab for the pixar crowd.
This is the only mainline Street Fighter game I have not bought, partially because it wasn't on Xbox, partially because of the issues I kept reading about the PC version, and mainly because everytime I considered getting it, the cost of getting the full game with all the content felt too much.
Yes, you should definitely cover the Champion Edition update! That's what made the game worth playing, at least for me, a casual long time fan.
I would like to hear more about how the game plays today with all the updates and DLC. Did it finally tick off all the boxes? Or was it too late?
Great Show mate! Please finish up the game's history. I myself am a Hardcore fighting game fan as well as a Hardcore SF player (from the SF2 days) who found SF5 Highly disappointing!
Keep up the Excellent work Bruv!
I'm glad SF V is definitely in a MUCH better place but those early days are kinds special and nostalgic to me
I love the new characters but ...meh. I still play ultra sf 4 on 360 over this. :(
Agreed, I Ended Up Buying The Ultra Street Fighter IV On STEAM Over The Street Fighter 5 Game.
---->> Despite The Issues I Had With Ultra Street Fighter IV On STEAM, I Still Think I Made The Right Choice.
---->> They Didn't Have Any Earlier Editions Of Street Fighter IV To Buy, So I Was Stuck With Ultra Street Fighter IV.
@@KenyoMurabu ultra is the best version imo
I can't look at that image of Chun-Li in the thumbnail without thinking about the early glitch that gave it extreme...physics.
I also miss Chun-Li from SF3 as she was at her sexiest. 😦
the outrage was simply because they released one empty shell of a game, then updated it months later and kept the best stuff behind a paywall.
The only thing you could buy was characters, stages, and costumes with IRL cash. All the modes and stuff were a free update.
I disagree, the outrage was not simple or due to a single flaw. It was a series of flaws and issues regarding timing and technical letdowns
Definitely do the next part fella
Thankfully I never bought the game until the CE which is a damn good game.
Meanwhile I’m still trying to master the world warrior 30 years later 😳
Thank you top hat for giving us all.such great content on Thanksgiving! Also I wanna wish my fellow gaming fans a HAPPY Thanksgiving as well!!!!!
love the vids dude! Do you ever play SFV? I'm not very good and get frustrated by the game (and my lack of skill) a lot but I still end up coming back to it.
That run-on sentence with every fighting game franchise is a true Top Hat Gaming Man masterpiece ;)
This is why a lot of fighting game usually don’t sell all that great , to much focus on the fgc and tournament play.
@@kaiser9321
The story mode is largely badly written and retcons a ton of things that were established in previous Street Fighter game Street Fighter 3 3rd strike: fight for the future.
@@kaiser9321
Street Fighter V largely disrespects the classic Legacy characters. Both Chun-Li Guile and Cammy don't take down bison or shadowloo themselves, Ryu who has no connection with bison is the one that finally finishes him off, Cammy leaves the story mode after taking down decapre, Juri makes a quick Cameo appearance and doesn't take part in the final battle with M bison or shadowloo,
FANG is the worst Street Fighter character and the most annoying,
Rose doesn't even make an appearance in the entire story mode or even helps the heroes despite the fact that her SOUL POWER was the ONLY thing that has long been established in the lore/history of SF that could take down bison.
Thanks for covering! Quite a rough game to get behind.
I say yes to more street fighter 5 update videos (arcade edition/ champion edition videos)Snf Great gaming journalism
I just enjoy the game
I look forward to more of your coverage of V, and other recent games this past gen
Excellent video
Before i start i gotta say. I love the line of puns here! XD 2:36
That's the problem with most modern fighting games now (Not that older fighting games hadn't done this).
3:27 wow... Just wow. Nice touch indeed.
6:47 i do love youtube automatic subtitles...
Thank goodness Yoshinori Ono is gone from Capcom he was burying Street Fighter legacy into the ground now we have a great team working on the Street Fighter games now a team that cares about the granchise.
Love those Killer Instinct and Tekken puns 😎👍🏿
Wouldnt mind seeing reviews of the later installments
Where's the second part? Would love to see your detailing about that latter part of this entry.
Those puns are the best!
Loved this video, please finish the sfv video story
I have to know what is that purple and turquoise looking console THGM was holding right at the beginning? It’s not a custom super famicom is it?
One more thing that annoyed people about this game:
When it was first announced, the game was also announced with support for Linux. The game released only on Windows and the Linux support was canceled some time after.
I play it now and love it, but at launch, it was so terrible, I dropped it and didn't give a second chance until Champion Edition. It took the game years to become what it should have been before launch.
A more than fair review of the launch of SFV.
5:41 name of the ost?
It is true that back in 2016 when it was release Street Fighter V was a disaster of a fighting game...but now if you buy the Championship Edition you will have one of the better fighting titles of this generation
Oh my gawd! You went ham with the fighting game puns, haha! Brilliant!
To this day I still see Street Fighter 5 as the weakest game in the series.
SF2CE and SFA3 are my favs of the series.
Not releasing sf5 on xbox was the only mistake capcom made, other than that this game is a fucking classic.
@@eddylex4921
Producer Yoshinori Ono shares a lot of blame for why SFV failed (Including the game's censorship) and if you look at his other work it begins to make sense,
The now infamous capcom/namco crossover failure that is Street Fighter X Tekken and Marvel Vs. Capcom Infinite,
A lot of capcom's failures with Modern Fighting Games can be blamed on Youshinori Ono also fun fact he was also the reason why we NEVER got another Darkstalkers game.
@@eddylex4921
THANKFULLY Yoshinori Ono has since left Capcom along with the ENTIRE team that worked on Street Fighter V. Street Fighter 6 is in the hands of a new team and producer.
It’s too bad Capcom messed up the release of SF5 so bad, then continued to nickel and dime its core fan base with all the iterations. Saying that, I think it’s a superior fighter to SF4 with better game dynamics. Also the sound track is the best in the series and deserves recognition.
What's makes SFV better then SlV
Street Fighter V gave us banana-hair Ken, and for that, I will always be thankful. (And also shirtless bearded Ryu)
Don't forget football ken
never cared for sexualization in games. as long as gameplay is good, who cares. Also, it's just flat out pathetic to concern yourself with such things on fictional characters. They aren't real.
I was so disappointed with this game when it was released .
One of the hundred million reasons I've boycotted anything since released by Capcom.
Absolutely would love if you covered Arcade & Championship Editions
Street fighter 4 was so dope I completely forgot about 5 when it came out I didn’t even get it
Hell yeah I wanna see a video about the arcade and champion editions of SF V.
Man, this game was/is a mess! SFIV 4vr! Hoping for some great things with SFVI
Still waiting for that new Megaman game Capcom said it was making.
It’s common knowledge that Sony helped them finance the game and it’s early launch.
