After spending Around 8-12 hours (over the course of 3-4 days) learning these strats. My first run was a 20min 50sec and I was so proud of that. then my second I did it in 19min and 23 sec (around there). and just now I got 18 min and 37 seconds. Thank you so much for this easy to follow tutorial because of how helpful it was.

That was a great throw, but there's something I'd like to point out. There is something called portal funneling, where objects (including the player) get funneled towards the portal. If he has this setting off, then it's really impressive.
I could be wrong, but i'm pretty certain portal funneling in P1 doesn't apply to objects but only to the player. I could be wrong about this because i haven't tested it exactly, it's just from my experience playing the game a lot.
I already knew how to speedrun this category really well, but I wanted to improve on my strategies. I really appreciated how you went in detail on how you should perform some of the tricks. This is very underrated, thank you.

Good guide! I'm having a problem in test chamber 11 though. It's not the edge bug that is the problem, but the orange portal gun. In source unpack whenever I try picking it up, the game crashes without any notification about the file is missing or something like that. It doesn't happen in vanilla steam portal 1. It also started happening only today, and not when I started using unpack. If I figure out why it's happening, I'll edit this comment and tell what was wrong in case someone else has this problem. Edit: I guess some files were corrupt. Reinstalling Source Unpack fixed the issue.
In chamber 17 (38:05) you could perform a seamshot between the glass and the ground. To perfectly perform it you could use the command "cl_showpos 1" to show your character position and camera angle. Also the position for the seamshot is: 1584.00 384.05 192.03, and the camera angle is: 88.34 -2.59 0.00. Good luck speedruning :)

Don't know if I'll include the Chamber 11 tactic into my runs yet since (for me anyway from lack of practice) its incredibly slow compared to how I do mine, however now that I know of that initial jump I can cut down my Chamber 11 times from about 20-30 seconds to about 10 at max so very much appreciated. Definitely will be practicing on incorporating the edge glitch in the future however
Ah yes the classic the well known the infamous "Turret flippy whippy string thingy" the very classic speedrunning tactic that everyone knows about, how could I have not of incorporated this into my run sooner? Especially with such a easy to say name
Does the four by four tile thing in chamber 18 always work? Sometimes a portal opportunity doesn’t show up for me and sometimes it does, even though I donthe same thing
it depends on how you shoot the ceiling portal. I try to aim for the bottom left corner of the bottom right tile. it's not too precise but you can try moving your mouse around to see if another shot lights up

How much of the speedrun strats used are up to date? I made a mistake by learning old strats with Inbounds SLA so don't wanna do the same with Inbounds no SLA
Considering that there’s been a few new strats along with an entire category split, I’d recommend checking the doc and learning from there. Though, some strats here are still applicable right now
Basically it’s still an inbounds room in the game and isn’t in the void. If you look closely, you can actually see that the floor is textured and not pitch black.
If you mean throwing the radio and jamming the door, it’s not really viable and is only used in segmented runs/TAS. The best way to save time is to throw the cube in 00 + improve your abhing throughout the entire map.
This video took my 32 minute run to a 25:42. Im still starting (and I forgot to record that run lol) but im really happy about getting a sub half hour EDIT: 23:49
How did you do "load 00" to load 0, for example? I assume you just have quicksaves, but is there a way I can just download them instead of making them all myself?

I'm having some trouble with the Glad0s furnace skip, or whatever it's called. The edge glitch to throw the cores in. I dunno, I usually can get stuck but it's not the correct way, as I still shoot portals myself and not through the wall. If anyone can offer some assistance, it would be greatly apricated!
Around 1:02:30 and if you decide to ABH on the catwalk try to get your head stuck partially under the railings because they are the perfect size to abh under and you can hit around 3500 speed without falling off in under a second :)

for chamber 04 I have a glitch to get GLaDOS dialog that's not supposed to play. you get the cube and set on the ground please support or so close to the exit door that it overlaps the frame a bit. by the side of the blue portal you put on. slowly and I mean slowly put the cube through the door and let go once it's about halfway through Gladys will automatically open the door
at 12:59 there is an easyer way to do it so once you have shot the portal behind the wird thingy look strait to the black tiles and ones you are looking at the bottom tile right in the middle you jump crouch. you fly perfektly almost every time
Fortunately, no. Out of bounds is the black void that exists outside of "rooms" in the game. That portion of the game is just one big box. You can see it trough one of the windows in the hallways prior to the glados fight. If you have a different dx level like mat_dxlevel 75, you can see that it's actually floor and not just dark void. Hope this clarifies everything :)

@@slxdy that definition may be a bit confusing. There are still areas in the game that can be accessed through glitches or even clever portal shots that still count as inbounds. Best example of this would be entering observation rooms such as in 32:10. That page also states that "A more specific definition for Portal is that OoB is any area where you can get stuck by jumping or falling if there is not a portal on a surface nearby." Though this explanation is partially incorrect when you factor in versions that allow free OoB movement (3420), it still shows that areas such as the one you mentioned are still inbounds.
I went into the chamber 7 skip thinking it was gonna be really hard since some of the "really basic" Portal 2 tricks are hard, but that was incredibly easy to do that I ended up doing it second try, and the only reason I didn't do it first try was because I missed the orange portal

unfortunately, my motivations to start speedrunning portal were ruined by the fact that its literally impossible due to me being on Linux. source unpack doesnt work. only google results say "just get windows". because im on linux, it forces me to use the steam deck ui. which has no possible way to use the console. you can get it to show up with a launch command but you cant type anything into it.
How are you loading specific levels? I'm trying to work on each level independently, and it's really annoying to have to go through each chapter to reach a specific level.
For the Source Unpack when i download it and boot it up like you showed it boots up super weird mashed half life 2 and portal app when i open task manager its named Portal but with half life 2 icon it is the weirdest "portal" i've seen bunch of errors infact
Good luck! I’d also recommend checking the speedrun guide that I linked in the description. A few strats here are outdated so you can use that to see which tricks you’d wanna implement.
test chamber 11/12 when you try to get the portal gun, just hold, W, shift, and space at the same time when exiting the elevator and place the portal under you its way faster and bypasses the risk of that happening
usually, binding multiple commands to one key isn't allowed. binding save and load to one key is alright but it's not used in no sla as the tricks where you use the bind count as save load abuse. Though, one useful bind is bind "save backup; load quick." You can use that to make a backup save every single time you reload. This can help if you accidentally reload a save :)
