  • Prospect Point is an HO logging model railway showing the hey-day of the US lumber industry, built by High Wycombe & District Model Railway Society in the UK.
Designed for the exhibition circuit, it features a scale mile of gradients (grades) operated by Shays, Heislers and Climax steam locomotives.

Great layout. Should deserve more than being in the back of TH-cam

Rod, Great photography of a great layout. Finally, a modeler who understands things like depth of field and stillness when it's needed in shooting moving miniature trains. Your butter-smooth pans really made the vid, too. Your ECUs of the engines and cars really highlighted the extraordinary work that obviously went into this amazing layout!

Beautiful layout! Love seeing a decent amount of Climax footage. My favorite train and most logging layouts dont give the Climax much love

Simply marvelous! Love the backdrop and thd tall pines! As I set out to build my layout, I look at this quality work as inspirational.
I have collected so far 2 Bachmann 3 truck Climax engines, 4 mantua loggers, and a handful of logging trucks/cars. Currently I am working on logging truck kits and will be weathering them and adding real wood logs as loads, stumps, etc....
Hopefully as my layout progresses I will be happy if even comes halfway as good as this one!
    Cheers,
    Loggin' Locos

Your logging RXR looks just like northwestern Oregon, good job of modeling. It looks like you run Rivarossi locos, so do I. Your layout does look like the real thing, congratulations on the modeling.

Really nice video, and terrific layout! Only one gripe - the phantom engines! Put a few figures in those cabs! Again, lovely work and nicely presented.

Looks nice, and I know how hard it is to model something from the other side of the ocean and get the details right! My only comment, and I'm certain it has come up in your club, is the number of trees - layouts over here never have enough, either!
Perhaps you'd be interested in a technique that I've had good success with using modified Heki "bottlebrush" trees.
Step 1 is to "rag the up" with a pair of stout scissors. Cut into the neat cone shape at a 45º angle all over the tree until it looks quite ragged.
Step 2, spray the tree from above with heavy duty hairspray or light spray can adhesive, and sprinkle with lighter green, fine textured foam-type scenery "scatter," as you folks call it. Seal it with hairspray.
You won't get a foreground model, but bunched together, the forest effect is amazing. I've used the technique on many commercial models and it's the best method we've come up with.

Man. It was this railroad. That got me off my ass and do your layout inch by inch. But, doing it on a 5' X 12' table. With a dog bone in the middle separating the two ends. One side is 4'6" the other being at 5'. Man. It was this railroad. That got me off my ass and do your layout inch by inch. But, doing it on a 5' X 12' table.
