Reminds me of the railroads around where I grew up. By the time I was born most logging railroads were long gone but the remnants are still there and the towns around me all still show the iconic signs of mill & lumber towns in their core. I don't know what's more beautiful, the scenery, the massive and immaculate combined mill and engine facility, or the incredible finely detailed and weathered brass rolling stock. Everything looks exactly like the real thing, the collection of dirty oil burning tank engines and geared locos; the massive loads of lumber that actually simulate the real operations of logging railroads; and the dense wooded scenery and winding rails that defined these types of operations. Quite a few bucket list locos here.
There are many factors in building a railroad layout. One plan I discovered that successfully combines these is the Jareks hobby club (google it if you're interested) without a doubt the most useful guide that I have ever heard of. Check out the great info .
Nice donkey and spar! I like putting faces & back cuts in some of the bigger logs & all of the stumps and cracking them off in a vice. That way you can see the hinge wood on the butt logs & faces in the tree stumps!
The high climber & the fall & buck are really cool too! This is my goal to achieve with Z scale. I'm still at work too though so I have plenty of time to work on things.
Well....once I downloaded the video and ran it through an audio mixer to edit out the music and selected background talking...it ended up being an extremely great video that was enjoyable!
I just came across this video and was curious as toward the logging Mike at 8:14. It seems to be in reference to McCloud, or the op&e's 19, but the model from a glance catches my eye to be closer to a more common 70 ton mike, and not 90 tons. As 19 was produced by Baldwin in April of 1915 it was one of few 90 ton Mike's built by Baldwin in that time frame. If anyone could enlighten me on what type of model it is or if it's custom, or imported/other, than that would be fantastic, as I'm recreating a 1970's rendition of Oregon's op&e in my home!
This is a great layout. The detail is awesome. Just one question, and it comes from my ignorance of "O" gage, but I did not see a 3rd rail. I thought, other than American Flyer, all "O" gage rails had a 3rd rail like Lionel.
A great layout with tons of detail, can't film it all in one video ! It's in the San Francisco Bay area, you can usually visit it during the O scale train show - OS West, which is the end of May, coming up fast !
does anyone know the name of the locomotive at 2:41??? it is absolutely beautiful. I volunteer at a railroad museum on long island and I would love for us to get this engine for our o gauge lumber line
the discription says O scale standard gauge? o scale and standard gauge are two different gauges. to me it looks like ON30 witch is O scale narrow gauge. what scale is it?
It's O scale "standard gauge", which worldwide is recognized as 4' 8.5". American O gauge is actually inaccurate, it scales down to about 5'. As far as I'm aware, this layout is not proto48, which is a finescale version of O with correct 4'8.5" gauge
Glad you enjoyed it. There is nothing I can do about the talking, the only way to visit these great layouts of a lifetime is during open house, when there is 30 + people in the room at any time. Can't stop people from having a good time :)
outstanding. What a great collection of locos!

Outstanding. Great collection of locomotives. The details in the Shay's models in "O" scale are AWESOME. Thanks!!!
Agree, O is a great scale for appreciating details.
What a beautiful layout. This man's skills are the level I am aspiring to.
It is one of the best I've ever seen, looking forward to visiting it again next month.

Love the video man awesome work
love the log dumping machine .
Those mallet tank engines are absolutely beautiful.
Beautiful layout. I love all the little details you've done. Even the bald eagle on top of the standing deadwood.
Very nicel to see a standerd gauge logging opperation. Well done!
great track work

shayengineer10 lol - I like hillbilly music!
YEAH, SURE YOU DID.
You know Bud....you're nothing more then a fucking smart ass dumb shit. Anyone who knows about editing can do it.
I love ccl #14 that's my favorite type of logging locomotive
I like the green and yellow Rayonier loggng caboose on the siding.
I recognize some of those engines from Mt Rainer scenic railroad
Hey Chris, Great Layout. Where do you get you O gauge workers and other people??
Great detail on track, minimal ballast if any, wide spacing.
Where did you get the plans to build the green and yellow Rayonier caboose shown at 6:50 in the video?
so nice love it mine are lionel o scale 1940 and 50 trains you can call them toys but i dont i love trains and run them your layout wow
karl schweizer 3 rail rocks!
They are all toys! Some just more realistic.
@@tonyromano6220 Three rail is certainly easier to wire.

Interesting. At next year's OSW show, if I can get to this layout again I'll ask Chris for the story on that one for you.
Those Engines are amazing... I love them what kind are they? if I may ask?
I believe most of them are brass models or scratchbuilt. Some superb models.

Great looking detail in this layout. Where is it located?

Unfortunately I live at the opposite end of the country in Florida. I rely on videos to see Model Railroads like that! Thank's for sharing.
Railway World nice videos.

That's a Mallet 2-6-6-2T.
Excelente video, me suscribo a tu canal!!
Saludos.

Why have the crappy music covering up the sounds of the locomotive?????
Is this O and HO mixed up?
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Great layout, but the music is a major distraction and takes away the enjoyment of the loco sounds.
I enjoyed watching this, however, I would have enjoyed it much more without all the talking on the sound track.
Glad you enjoyed it. There is nothing I can do about the talking, the only way to visit these great layouts of a lifetime is during open house, when there is 30 + people in the room at any time. Can't stop people from having a good time :)
A beautiful layout . Too bad the guys talking in the background ruined the video.
this is HO scale
_Kurtis Hooey I guess so... huh, I didn't know there was a two track O scale system
Tivis7 Yes O Scale 2-rail has been around for decades here’s a link if you want to check it out oscalekings.org.
:-D 7:12
Nice display. To much chit chat, ruins it!
Nice video , BUT DUMP that Music ! Sooooo Distracting
Pity the stupid music that has nothing to do with beautiful logging layout !.
Video is great ‼️ music stinks
Tell the other guys to SHUT UP when you are filming. It's irritating and not very courteous.
LOSE TO FREAKIN BACKGROUND NOISE/NUSIC. IT'S DISTRACTING AS HELL.
To much talking
