I give it a 5 for educational purposes. I think I'm going to try a fade with two different shades of base. Using your fender as a guide spray darker base along the top edge, body line and the flat edge of the wheel arch. Thanks again.
I’d give it a 5. Very nice color and I’ve been thinking about using speedokote clear but this is first time I’ve seen it demonstrated, so thank you for doing this. I’m going to give it a try
Very nice!! 5 love the blue. Would love to hear more about selecting the best clear to use. Low cost to high cost and the benefits why you would choose one vs another.
I actually did a video a while back on clear coat but I can cover it again more extensively in a future video here's the link th-cam.com/video/X5N12BY1n4M/w-d-xo.htmlsi=fWr33SlC7xjv21tD
@@WHITLEYAUTOWORKS thanks!! Still have questions about so many other things. I'm getting my shop set up so I can start sharing some stuff with you on the pearls.
I have done it a couple times I did one called ultimate Pearl guide where I did get as part of a spray out on a hood and I did it on a black cherry pearl spray out where I shot cherry red over black but it was very minimal I don't know if you seen both of those yet
I give it a five, but I am partial to blue. I've bought some blue pearls on Aliexpress and acquired 13 different shades of blue. You've given me some ideas to try out . Would like to see a full fender sprayed in black and covered with the same blue. Thanks.
That's a nice color. You talking about what base you use gave me a video idea, start spraying base on one end of the fender with a light base and just add black to it as you go across the fender to the point that when you get to the end the base is black. Then spray this blue pearl over it just like you did here. May be easier on a hood, you might need a little more room. If you had a line or pinstripe tape line where it got a little darker so the contrast would really show up might help. LOL, you got this done and I immediately wanted to see it over silver, black, different shades of gray, or different colors of blue maybe and there are a few. I know everyone likes something different but I like these more typical looking sprays, it's like an affordable way to get a real nice paint job not nessicarily being something custom. You said $100 for this clear, then figure a couple quart of say satin black for a base and a galolon of Xyolen or Mineral Spirits and your pearl and you're way less than $200 and you can't hardly buy a gallon of most any color for that. Great job John.
@@WHITLEYAUTOWORKS Cool. I know ideas for videos must get hard at times, if I have any ideas I will send them to you. That doesn't mean I expect to see them, just ideas I think are worth sharing.
I think it turned out great! The other clear you used once and a while would have some tiger striping , maybe just camera views, but the speedo was a much cleaner clear.
Yes and some of that is the Pearl load I put in the amount of clear I had so there were other factors but overall I like this clear and it will be on the channel for the near future so stay tuned
Wow!!! This came out awesome John!!!! This is one of the best ones! I have a request now based off of this one.. before you sand this panel down, scuff it lightly for the next video & add a black pearl on top of it, medium load. Lets see if you can get a candy type of effect. 🔥🤔
I would love to do that unfortunately due to my other job the spray outs have kind of been done in bulk so unfortunately I've already painted over it with a different one but there are plenty more to come and we will definitely play with some candies soon as well so stay tuned
Looks great especially using the speedokote been trying to figure out if I should use speedo so thank you for helping me decide. I’m going to use a speedo coat with the medium activator like you did and mix it with some didspade oliveen green pearl over a black rustoleum base!!!
It's a good clear coat very affordable and I've enjoyed using it for spray outs. It seems to be a little on the thinner side than some of the other clear coats I've used but that's a simple adjustment. Great clarity UV protection etc. So I definitely recommend it to anyone who wants a good product at a cheaper price point thanks for watching
Curious if you have tried to use two different base coats to create a ghost stripe. We are planning on painting an old Ford and wanted to add a ghost stripe to it. Could a person use a light base coat for the stripe and a dark base coat for rest of car. Just curious if you have tried it. Thanks for the vids!
I haven't exactly tried that I see what you're thinking the problem is if you do enough coats of the solid Pearl you would see a light area but it wouldn't be a defined line per se if that makes sense you might would get by better trying to do something like that if before you put on the last coat or two you taped off the area that was the stripe and did two more coats of pearl I would definitely try it on a spray out first do some experimenting sounds like a really cool idea though
Yeah that's pretty much the point to a lot of my videos as long as you prep everything correctly and you use a good quality clear coat you can get a good lasting paint job the same as most normal automotive paint jobs
That colour mix is a 5 out of 5 from me!!👌 Quick question: I noticed some orange peel, if you were to rub it flat and buff it, would you apply some straight clear over the top of the pearl before rubbing it back?
Yes preferably if you have it to use I've done it both ways and it still buffs out the same even with the Pearl in the clear I guess you could say it's more like buffing out single stage but the clarity still comes through thanks for watching
Well technically if you wet sand everything with 600 grit and clean it real good you can but after 3 years I'm going to bet the paint is contaminated with something from over the years. I would definitely say get you some more Rustoleum and rebase coat it before applying the clear just to make sure because I would hate for you to waste clear coat and time resanding everything later on thanks for watching
Where can I message you a picture? I'd like to send you a picture of a car color and have feedback on how to make something similar with pearl if possible
This clear coat is the type of clear you want because it has good UV protection most 2k urethane clear coats work good for being out in sun all the time.
Now that's a tricky one typically if you put 2K clear over Chrome paint it will flatten it out and make it look aluminum but we will try it on a future episode Thanks for watching!
Yes I know I said reducer instead of activator it was a very long day oh well thanks for watching everyone!!!
Lol
Anybody who was watching the video knew what you meant but thanks for the humble retraction
Came out looking like a nice light blue metallic 👊🏻
That blue is exactly what I want for my 86 C10 . And it's primer and clear wow
I actually painted my truck almost this eexact color a couple years ago. Nardo grey with ghost blue translucent pearls. Very nice color.

Beautiful 👍😎
I had to watch this video a second time because it looks so good. You do some very good work with that. Thanks again
Can you do a red like that ?

Dude that color is sick!! Ide definitely give that a solid 5. Would look good on a pickup truck!!!
I've got a gray pickup truck a 2016 Colorado that would look beautiful on
I think that's a 5. Color is great and reflection of the clear is great also. 👍
Wow, you make painting easy. I'd be very happy with this color on my car. Def a 5
I really like this one Jonathan! Great color my brother outstanding job I give this a 5
