My Dad is very much like James too. He's a very great, selfless, and loving man who loves his family and wants what's best for his family and would anything for them but he tells it like it is and is serious when it comes to order and discipline. He also has a great sense of humor and is much fun to be around.

Such a great show!!!!! I credit Esther Rolle (RIP) for insisting the show having a Father cast in. If they had refused, I heard she wouldn't do the part of Florida Evans. Had no idea too that Jimmie Walker (JJ) and her didn't get along too well. He basically said the same about John Amos. I think his buffoonery and becoming the face of the show got under their skin

I liked and laughed at the moment when James kept hesitating from beginning the spanking while Michael was accepting it and going all in by just lying down across James' lap, James saying "Hey, dont rush me" and "What is your hurry?!!". This shows me while knowing he had to do it, (that is until he found out why Michael was failing his history class), James really wasnt looking forward to spanking his son.

I like when Florida and James gave Michael reasons for why he should stay in school. "School ain't perfect, you know, but that's no call to drop it." "You suck and dry up all the knowledge you can. If that ain't enough then you get some more, but you get what's there." It's also great how James apologized to Michael and then Michael admitted that he could apologize to his teacher." There's nothing wrong with apologizing in certain situations. More of us should take these lessons to heart.

The Last Barbecue for instance when Denise and Sondra (egged on by their mother) where making a big deal about there being strippers at Martin's bachelor party (which Denise said he should have one). If I had been Martin, I would have gotten an annulment after that nonsense. The last straw was that episode where the men were pregnant.
