Denver was eyeing Jones. It is why they refused to trade down with the Giants for the 17th pick, and once the Giants' hands were forced to take Jones at 6, they traded down. Giants knew it. Denver was eyeing Jones. It is why they refused to trade down with the Giants for the 17th pick, and once the Giants' hands were forced to take Jones at 6, they traded down. Giants knew it. Also, I think all teams knew what a disaster Haskins was. If it wasn't for Snyder, he would have slipped all the way to the second round.

Because we're not ignorant. He already been hinting at Eli playing another year or two. As much 'heat" that he would get for Eli still being under center for a little longer, we're not going to demand Gettleman's immediate firing if he continues to make common sense choices with improving other positions: OL, DL linebackers, etc.
For example, last year, Everyone, just about, outside of the GIANTS organization, and us fans were happy that Gettleman chose the best player on the board at #2 even when the general consensus around the world said we should have taken a QB, any QB.
But this year he drafts Daniel Jones, who EVERYONE around the world knows that he wasn't the best player in the draft available at #6 nor is he the best pick in the best interest of the NY Football Giants, (as Gettleman likes to say) at #6. people forget mitchell trubisky who was the 2nd pick a couple years back with similar to no stats. not denying haskins and lock dont have talent, but its also about the talent that surrounds you. Jones had alot of reciever drops his time in duke and not much talent around him. i think when it comes to scouting, the scouts look for potential and intangibles.

What makes no sense to me about what coach says is that danial Jones can get better and grow in the systen. Last time I checked so could Haskins, so unless we are trying to say something else that argument works for both players. Nobody had Jones that high in the draft, nobody! He is not a top 10 draft pick in any draft for QBs, his arm will not let him be an elite QB or even a average QB in this league.
qb is more than just raw talent. its whats between the ears aswell. one thing gettlemen preached is jones ability to face adversity. you look for intangibles like that aswell.

In the ideal situation the Giants would have taken Devin White at 6 and Daniel Jones at 17, since White was taken Jones was the pick to make.
