  • Colin Cowherd discusses last night's first round of the NFL Draft. Hear why he is putting more blame on New York Giants GM Dave Gettleman for drafting QB Daniel Jones than Eli Manning and why the excuse of Aaron Rodgers not winning because of not having a defense are overblown.

After having Eli for 15 seasons not getting hurt, meanwhile Darnold already missing games his rookie season, but yeah the giants made a mistake...... sigh. Your point about passing on a QB this year and getting one next year, I can agree with that. If you dont think ownership made the call on the future starting QB though, I think your giving Gettleman too much power then he actually has. I'm talking about his actual drafting of players, which I thought last years class was pretty good in my opinion. Its just not cool to say, because.. "her her, Gettleman". So even as a bears fan that Aaron Rodgers comment is moronic. The reason why Rodgers doesn't have as many 4th quarter comebacks is because they were ahead most if the time. The bears with Cutler played the safe try to be within a touchdown going into three 4th rely on three defense to get a turnover and win late. Look at the win percentage it's a much more telling stat

    • @ch33seweasel42
      @ch33seweasel42 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Early in his career, Rodgers was admittedly not great when down in the 4th Quarter. It wasn't until the fake spike in Miami that he started doing this to teams consistently. But your point is still correct; The team won a lot because for a year and a half the D was just good enough to not need him to do that, coupled with years of the Packers offense putting up points.
      12/13 Picks on defense also means nothing if those picks don't pan out. and it's funny he decides to cut out the information he is feeding us before the 2015 draft, because then he'd have to mention how not a single player from that draft is still on the team.

    • @DarthChee
      @DarthChee 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      meinking22 I honestly only saw a couple giants games last years, but what i saw from Barkley reminded me of Adrian Peterson in his first years, when the Vikings had a really bad schemes and play calling(brad Childress) They just leaned on a.p., opposing teams would play 8 or 9 guys “in the box” on 1st&2nd and 7 or 8 on 3rd, and he still had success. but his greatness sort of masked a lot of flaws, and probably caused the Vikings to keep some bad players and bad coaches.

      Of all the super stupid excuses made for Rodgers the "He doesn't have a lot of comebacks because he's usually winning" is one of the dumbest.
      Guess who has the most comebacks ever?
      It's Brady, the guy with the most wins and the highest winning percentage of any QB with at least 25 starts in league history.
      Who's 2nd? Peyton the guy with the 2nd most wins and the 4th highest winning percentage ever.
      The guys with the 2nd and 3rd highest winning percentages?
      Joe Montana who has more than double the comebacks of Rodgers (31 to 15) with only 13 more career starts and a MUCH higher winning percentage.
      The other is Rodger Staubach with the same number of comebacks but with 43 fewer starts and a winning percentage over 100 points higher.
      It's not that he doesn't have comebacks because he is always ahead he just isn't good at playing from behind.
      He wins a lot because he is a great front runner who wins more than 88% of the games he has a lead starting the 4th quarter.

    This was a good pick for the Giants. He's the same kind of QB as Eli, only taller and can throw a spiral. They need to replace Eli, and this will be a smooth transition. He can watch Eli from the sideline for a season, then come in, and the Giants don't have to make major changes to the offensive schematics. They need to get him some blocking.

    • @victorvillari6136
      @victorvillari6136 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Wow, a rational comment here! Amazing. I agree 100%. Let him sit behind Eli for a year and let things go from there. People are forgetting this is a rebuild. Gettleman grabbed 2 good defensive players in this draft from all the picks he acquired last year, and cleared up 100+million in cap space for the Giants to spend on whatever they urgently need. This draft is going to go underappreciated for years. I'm confident it'll turn into a very productive draft.

      When I first saw the video I agreed with you, but I looked up the stats and they don't tell the same story. His success rate for 4th quarter comebacks is very low among "elite" QBs, with 40+ chances he's only come back 12 times. Ryan Tannehill actually has less comeback opportunities but more comebacks.

    • @kevinbohn9640

      I saw that when I was looking up the stats, too (there’s a big table listing come backs and come back opportunities on google, and if anything that ratio is what Cowherd should have used to make this asinine argument)... but Tannehill isn’t even over 0.500 W/L for career. The goal is to win often; not occasionally win but do so in dramatic fashion with a last quarter drive.

    The QB position is probably the hardest to project with accuracy how well any of these guys will do when making the transition to the NFL. I mean nobody ever expected Tom Brady to become what he did with where he was in the draft and conversely, the Oakland QB a few yrs ago who was a first rounder I believe and was a total bust. Winston hasn't been that impressive either given all the hype surrounding him. Kyle Murray could tank as well or be done for season after one solid hit by a DE or LB at hiis size. That being said, the stats on this guy Jones coming out of a weaker conference and with a good coach and system he was familiar with, were below average. The optics and college stats with Jones are not optimistic going into the NFL (and without much protection on the OL to boot) regardless of how Eli feels about the guy, but Eli knows more about the finer points of the position than I do, so who knows? Gettleman is shaping up to be a tool though.
