very interesting Tory. It's nice to see and hear how your mind works (sort of). Most of my friends are musicians and when ever one of them gets "too big for their britches" and they start to think they are all that plus a bag of chips, I show them one of your vids and it humbles them right away. You are incredible.
Remember that interview with Vennie, he said thought is the enemy of flow. Well, you have not only become a master of positioning & economy of motion but you have also become a master of flow. I just want to say thank you for being on Earth at this time so I can experience you making history. Thank you Tori 💜💜💜
My old friend Allan Holdsworth was convinced to either not have a neck pickup at all or pull it back, way back so the magnets, pole pieces would not pull the strings. All (most) his DeLaps and Carvins/ Kiesels had just bridge pu’s. But legato was much different than tap so… all their own. Wonderful what you’ve doing!
Yeah I'm sure that worked great for him. LOL yeah. I need the neck pickup for more traditional jazz type sounds, that kind of resonance. I feel like the neck pickup is a more pianistic thing overall....
OMG! That is amazing! How the heck can you do that with the right hand? My knackered right hand could never do that! But it gives me a lot of ideas of things i might be able to do!
I have no idea whether you'd be interested, but I would dearly like to hear what you could do with non-12 EDO scales, such as 22, 27, or 31. Sure, I know it's a long-term commitment, and each tonal system is no doubt a deep dive rabbit hole. etc. But just visualize the wondrous palette. Listening to some of Brendan Byrnes' work is helpful along the visualization lines (at least for 22 and 27 EDO), even though one may not have a guitar fretted in such a scale. I mention Brendan only as an example because "the many" agree that his work has delightful musical qualities and is generally quite relatable. This all boils down to, I'd like to hear what a player / inventor (composer) with your techniques could do with some of the tastier xenharmonic scales.
@@TorySlusher One has to be highly motivated to specialize in microtonal music. Some have done it relatively successfully, but the psyches of most listeners are stuck in the melodic and harmonic rut of 12 tones per doubling of frequency (aka "octave" in standard theory parlance). Introducing other tones tends to evoke the "sounds out of tune" response, and most people tend not to give their brains the chance to adapt - not realizing that the grass on the microtonal side is actually greener in that it comes in multiple shades of green (and other colors).... 31 EDO offers all the joys and capabilities of 12 EDO but with a richer harmonic palette, and some especially lovely music has been created using that scale. 12-tone music can be easily adapted to 31 EDO and "sounds better" to most ears due to the closer alignment of 31 EDO with Just Intonation. Please don't sh00t me (Tory or anyone reading this) if I've just reiterated information about which you were already well-informed.
Oh, No! There she is again, Agh! Just when I thought I was getting good, now captive audience, tears in my eyes, laughing, shaking my head, its unreal, its too real, I must pretend I didn't see this so I can continue my addiction playing...let's see, that was Ebmin BMaj DbMaj Bbmin?....
Have you tried sliding chords with your right hand? Met Allan Holdsworth over a week of gigs in the 80’s and he’d shift his right hand with 2-3 finger chords. Steve Vai was doing it when I met him in the 90’s. I tried to get Devin Townsend to try some things. But I’m only a rhythm player/slide guitarist. Fretless bass is my fave sonic space/place and training. I also prefer headless. Strandbergs feel great.
私は日本に住むあなたのファンです。いつか日本に来て演奏してください。 I'm a fan of yours who lives in Japan. Please come and play in Japan someday. Like you, I play jazz music on a headless guitar.
Are you using an amp? Are you using Ableton or some DAW, with a focusrite of something. I just got the Freidman Buxom Betty amp sim by Brainworx, not bad, and cheap for the black Friday thing. Way to go, sound great.
yea TORY you are right about making thiings to hard,I saw a guy on youtube who was PRACTISING 15 HRS A DAY IN THE DARK you know him one of the GUITAR GODS SO CALLED
Have you tried a double neck guitar as both your hands can lead? Or keyboard left hand and guitar right. Looking at your playing I don't think it would take you long to learn some insane Oscar Peterson bass lines.
Jordan? Well yeah, LOL.... But no I just use standard tuning. It's not really the technique itself it's just, well, I think it's the best way to do certain things.... You can kind of simulate the same thing with complex fingerstyle but it's still a compromise....
How many fingers do u use on yer right hand when u play lead. And do u use the same fingers on yer left together or is that a different pattern when u use just the one hand technique
An actual question about the fingers, Tory, would you say that, please? And generally, a video or a series of videos on your technics would get great @@TorySlusher
not a criticism of you, but it seems like since everyone started overdoing tapping and "virtuoso techniques" for youtube-awe views, it seems like music kinda died. Everyone's just stringing techniques together to make spectacles and the re-playability suffers for it. I don't care about all the technical black metal grinding garbage or GOAT bullshit from whatever that neck-tat band is. ***Why can't people write songs instead of technique portfolios?***
I would just like to add that I think that the overall socioeconomic downturn in virtually every facet of society has probably contributed to the general malaise sensation you're referring to... It seems like the world is becoming a miserable place by design economically or something, and this is having an influence on music and things etc. but yeah, the effect of trying to get views, and then placing that above all other things etc it kind of turns you into a hollow husk of a musician, and it just kind of creates this sickening vicious loop or you're just tired of the whole thing because of that scene etc. ... I don't know if there's any right or wrong answer and that's also kind of depressing, LOL
Thanks!

The greatest are the most humble. Another characteristic Tory shares with Allan Holdsworth.

Magnetic string pull is a fallacy.
a lot of nice approaches on that first piece, sounds great!
Jack Butler may have won had he used his post as a fret. Thanks for the sesh, Tory! Most enjoyable and informative..
He'd have been a reeall smart boy, if he had!
Jeez this intro is so beautiful. Thanks for sharing as always, Tory.
My personal favourite player.❤
Fantastic watching your playing and thought process. Keep doing what you do 👍

Wow...um, any chance of getting a tapping tutorial?
Never fails to amuse me. Thanks

Yeah.
I like the outcomes from the exploration in the pickups ...
Just for curiosity, Tori .... Had you tried flatwounds Thomastiks??
I don't see the point of flat wounds, TBH .. if you want that sound, just turn the tone knob down... Maybe it's different for hollow body
Can't wait...🤐 💞🎵🎸🖖😀
Thank you, beautiful music as usual and interesting stuff!
YOU ARE BRILLANT AS USUAL WISHING YOU ALL THE BEST FOR THE SEASON FROM PERTH WA WHERE ITS GETING HOT
🖐️☺️
Great stuff as always, you're terrific.
Incredible 🙏
Thanks Tory, sounds exciting, you ever hear Ken Nordine: You're getting better?
No

Hey, exciting news! 😃
Yeah. Do you have no idea how difficult it is to not say...lol
@@TorySlusher I was changing some strings while listening, but that part made me stop and rewind!
Nice! Did you start out with that stik thing back in the day?
No

Hey Tory, do you have calluses on your right fingertips and if so were they slow to form?
...and the very best to you
I suppose so yeah, I would just say that they're deadend tips at this point
i close my eyes and hear two guitars...i open my eyes and hear 2 guitars.

Yes... I always end up going back to six strings, there's so much stuff that you can do etc trying to keep that operational sometimes is enough
"EXPLORATATIVE." 😮 Now Tory is inventing her own words!! She's unstopable!!
Neologismistic
@TorySlusher 😂😂
I’m sure you’ve been asked this before, but were you inspired by Stanley Jordan, and do you tune your guitar at all fourths?
