Very cool story. I’ve been following your channel for a couple weeks. Beyond your excellent guitar playing (slide and otherwise), you are a gifted communicator. Your explanations are concise and right on target. Every time!
Congratulations Dylan on the guitar. Ever since Rhett Schull introduced you to the world I have been following your progress. In a video several months back the guys at Driftwood mentioned they were making a guitar for you and I was immediately interested. I searched and couldn’t find anything beyond the initial reference. If they were to offer a run of these guitars I would seriously consider procuring one.
That is the best looking sunburst I have ever seen. No exaggeration. I love how you managed to strike the perfect balance between understated and premium. Nothing about the guitar looks gaudy, but the amazing sunburst finish, the binding and the abalone dots just makes you *know* this is a high end instrument intended to be used and not just shown off. Nice one!
Been following Driftwood for a couple years now. Love love love that they've ventured into electric guitars! Their acoustics are so beautiful and sound amazing! The only exception about this electric collaboration is that is exceptional!
Fantastic work by the Driftwood team. Great playing as usual. Thanks for explaining all the details. I love the emotional expression in slide work. Great all around!
That guitar looks and sounds incredible. I'm also a big fan of stainless steel frets and carbon fiber rods. I have a couple of Kiesels set up that way and they're about as low maintenance as you're going to find in a guitar.
My SG Special is a wraptail and I absolutely love it. Zero intonation issue and the 10-46's I use feel like 8's. If I ever can do a custom build, whether Gibson or Driftwood or whoever, I'd love a 54 spec LP, with a wrap tail and humbuckers. This is so cool man!
GREAT video!!! I loved every bit. Dylan, you seem like a wonderful person, and you must be living right to make these other wonderful people want to gift you with this wonderful guitar and amp. Driftwood is definitely on my radar now. Them being so gracious to you, definitely makes me feel like I could work with them on a special instrument. The pickup/amp guy also. Again, this video is a complete home run. I liked, subscribed, and will def check out your future stuff!!!
That is the exact guitar I have been wanting! There was a Gibson version like that issued not so long ago with a single humbucker that I have been hunting for. Really nice, sounds great. Love a single pickup wrap tail. 🔥🔥
That guitar is awesome would love to have one from them , and that amp looks and sounds great !! Would be awesome if Driftwood started selling that model.
Dylan, great advice on the potentiometer selection, both the value and taper are so important (IMHO). As of recently I've been using VIP potentiometers, too much to list here, check them out. On my Gibson style guitars I swear by the PIO Capacitors, .015uF for the Neck pickups, and .022uF for the Bridge. Love your music, thank you for the breakdown of your guitar and how you use it.
Really digging that guitar. Not gonna lie though I was hoping it was a series/parallel switch. The 50s/modern isn’t what I would’ve expected but it does seem to offer some nice tones. Something else I’d like is a volume and tone bypass switch so you could set it with them rolled back for clean tones and bypass them straight to the output jack when you want to let it rip.
Is this a one off or are they selling these to the general public. My favorite guitar in my 57 junior. But yeah the p90 can be noisy. And I really like the binding, the body looks like 3% bigger. I like it a lot. And yes on the chambered body! Yes please!
Wow. You, sir, have a new subscriber. Great playing and great content. I was on my way into picking a P90/Single PU Guitar until I realized I owned 3 other guitars and my wife is still in the house. So didn't do it. But it's my next thing. Why do you think that single PU guitars have something special and the sound is somewhat "open" and clear? I played an Eastman SB55 Single Cut with a Lollar P90 and I fell in love with it. The white color was not my cup of tea, but the guitar was awesome.
There is some thought to that subject in regards to the lack of a neck pickup , specifically in that the lack of magnetic pull from the front pickup contributes to a stronger sustain utilizing the bridge pickup, on account of the slight increase in the strings vibration. One of those all too familiar topics of contention amongst guitar forums lol, I personally have no opinion on whether that’s true or not, but it wouldn’t surprise me if there was an apparent difference on certain guitars
I thought the D on the headstock was for Dylan . . . I am not very up on Driftwood, which says more about me (someone who cannot actually play, so does not "shop" custom) than them.
Yeah I’ve thought of trying one of the various noiseless P90s in my Jr, but the consensus seems to be that most of them sound more humbucker-ish than P90ish, so I think I’d rather just leave it as is and enjoy it at venues with good power, haha
On Driftwood’s channel, their title said it was 10k. Not my place to say whether it’s worth that much, but it’s a hefty price tag, just a heads up lol 🤷♂️
Dylan, love your playing and I want to love your channel but I have one hang-up. When speaking, most of your statements end in vocal-fry. Maybe you never noticed. This habit can be fixed with a little consciousness of speaking patterns. There are a lot of people who find vocal-fry to be irritating (including me) and switch away from channels they would otherwise enjoy because of the fight or flight response it induces. Once again, love your playing and your personality, just can’t watch…
there isn't a lot of "string pull" with gibson style pickups (magnet and poll piece) so the "single pickup" format doesn't yield the same benefits as does ...say an esquire. Not that Juniors/TV Models aren't fun- but the current run have necks that are 1:1 baseball bat necks that, while great for sustain, aren't really great for slide guitar Brazillian Rosewood should be stockpiled for exclusively vintage copies/historic models made by gibson and or fender
You are most welcome I hope it brings you much joy in your journey.
Thank you for the shout out.
I love the driftwood guitar crew, those guys are awesome!
Nothing quite like an incredible guitar in the hands of a great player. Sounds as good as it looks, which is a feat in itself.
That is gorgeous Dylan. Congrats on getting that beauty. Great playing, and fascinating story. Thanks for sharing this.
So well-deserved. And wise choice by Driftwood to partner with you. Gorgeous guitar with an extraordinary guitarist.
They crushed this project. Looks and sounds like a ripper!
How generous of them wow. I’m sure you deserve it man. Hard work and dedication pays off sometimes. Phenomenal slide player bro

SCORE!! Love the specs on that amp! The Jr. is a perfect balance of modern boutique & vintage traditional
It is especially after some tweaks😊
@@DaveEdwardsDesigns lol, what would you tweak, out of curiosity?

Chris and Matt make some unbelievable guitars! They're great people too!
Congrats, Dylan! You are certainly a seriously worthy musician for Chris and Matt to bestow such a glorious instrument upon! Cheers!

That guitar is stunning. Congrats on huge win.
I’m sorry to hear about your friend. I looked him up and sounds like he was a pillar in the music community.
Good for you, Dylan. Great looking and great sounding.
This was fun. Killer guitar and playing. Thanks for posting.

What a cool collab. Going to binge both sides of the story.

Bro, that is an absolute beauty. Well done Driftwood and I sub'd to their channel and yours as well.
I watched the build of that - most beautiful burst colors I have ever seen!
Well deserved, brother. Watched that build video too. Such a sick instrument. Congrats on all the success and thanks for sharing!
Very cool guitar Dylan! Congrats!

Congrats man. Love it!
Such a chill guitar !
Premiumness indeed! Love it.
That looks and sounds AMAZING !
I had a Bill M Mod Blues Jr w/ Presence control and single chanel ... i kick myself daily for selling it.
The switch is genius.
Never knew how much I needed a Junior with body binding, oh no! Reminds me of those Les Paul Seniors but without the top carve.
Beautiful guitar! I'm curious, though: did they do anything special to allow the humbucker to clean up at lower volumes as well as a P-90 will?
That’s essentially what the switch does, adds a ‘50s wiring mode so it cleans up better. A humbucker will never clean up quite as well as a P90 though

Sounds really great! Beautiful guitar!
Daaaaamn! Great guitar!
Killer guitar Dylan congradulations!
Great Video! Thanks
Digging that guitar!

Way way cool bro !!!! Awesome
I have to ask, do you use your thumb for ghost notes and then your index or just the thumb?
Wow. You, sir, have a new subscriber. Great playing and great content. I was on my way into picking a P90/Single PU Guitar until I realized I owned 3 other guitars and my wife is still in the house. Would Pau farro be a good option for the fretboard ???
Nice!! Did you use a double cut pickguard on it single ply?
Congrats.
I want one of those!
THERE IT IS
Was the last bit of playing with the modded amp ?
Congrats
One of those in a SG shape would be the dream…
It’s a Ry Cooder switch🔥🎸
I thought the D on the headstock was for Dylan . . .
I am not very up on Driftwood, which says more about me (someone who cannot actually play, so does not "shop" custom) than them.
Did you think of a P100 ?
Yeah I’ve thought of trying one of the various noiseless P90s in my Jr, but the consensus seems to be that most of them sound more humbucker-ish than P90ish, so I think I’d rather just leave it as is and enjoy it at venues with good power, haha
Amazing
Can we buy this wonderfulguitar?
On Driftwood’s channel, their title said it was 10k. Not my place to say whether it’s worth that much, but it’s a hefty price tag, just a heads up lol 🤷♂️
Does anyone know what tuning his guitar in?
Standard!
So, the end result is... a Nik Huber Krautster II :D
ive never wanted a jr so badly. So annoying i thought i was done with these cravings.
I love P90s but hate the hum. Lindy Fralin noiseless sound and look very authentic
Guess Driftwood is hoping you will be their Best Salesman. Just as John Nathan Cordy is K LINES best Salesperson.
I want it 🤤 haha
looks like new LTD
Of course, I wouldn't turn them down either. Just sayin..
Like all guitars, the “ dots “ on the fretboard are really unwatchable…..😂

What a way to honor Denton 🫶🏼.
