We're getting spoiled, but I hope it continues; all these gems of brilliant ideas connecting genres and centuries in a natural and fun, sometimes funny way; always lots to keep our brains busy; amazing harmonies, melodies, rhythms, tones to keep everyone from getting a big head about whatever we might be pursuing; Tory is always there to humble everyone!
I've written a lil tapping solo for a song my friends and I are recording soon so this video is extremely timely and appreciated as this will help me tidy it up some 😊 Cheers, Tory!
Thanks for taking the time to show us this and share your tips. I have the same guitar (same color as well ;) and I’m glad for your short demo at the end showing that despite your adjustments to the poles it still had a good “regular” sound. Before I fiddle too much with that I was happy to see that the guitar would not be only able to be used for this technique.
Yeah, it's not really the kind of thing that probably most people will even notice, but the difference in feel the way it responds, it makes a big difference when you're trying to be creative or please yourself in terms of just not having to fight the guitar all the time.... On repeated listening the subtleties I think become apparent, but you know this has always been the case.... There have been oodles of concert pianists and violinists who have complained about this or that instrument etc "oh I would never play bach with that! That's a romantic. Instrument etc". ... Maybe it's that kind of thing, just having all of the factors in one line properly set up, even people of that world have to deal with stuff like action even with a keyboard....
This already … IS … a better than good channel. Your channel has grown like crazy in a year, Tory. Just keep on keeping on. Merry Christmas. Thank you for sharing this. So, so good. 🌱🙏🏼
Thank you! Been tweaking pole pieces and parameters (GT-1) where some presets are lively, usable and others irredeemable. These tips are well taken with the work already underway.
Always amazing… I love when you inject more classical counterpoint elements into your melodies ala Bach and it would be cool for you to have an expression pedal set to bow in volume swells and subtle violin type vibrato effects ala the tc electronic shaker pedal. i can imagine it difficult to apply right tap hand vibrato with no thumb anchoring around the neck.
Thanks Tory. I have spent weeks and weeks tweaking my guitars over the years. A bit of an obsession if I am honest. Care to explain what happens once the electrons are freed from the pickup?? What (if any) effects are in play? Compression?? Sustainer? what amp (or sim)? Do you prefer the guitar volume full on and the amp turned down or amp full up with guitar volume at 2 or 3? Inquiring minds want to know.
Two things, I tend to use my tone control just to take off some of the abrasive highs, but it just seems to change on a day-to-day basis sometimes or definitely if I'm playing in a different location. Secondly, the humbucker is actually kind of a godsend in terms of adjustment because you can't really adjust a single coil aside from just getting the angle right with the two side screws... So you have two levels of adjustment, that is to say, maybe the d string or g-string is a little bit weird in terms of its response or volume, due to a lot of factors with the wood dead spots etc so you have a little bit of extra ability to either make it quieter or louder and balance it out with the highs and lows etc. Sometimes I open the DAW and kind of look at stuff, c levels, but mostly it's just by ear, and feel you know getting things adjusted properly, every guitar is different...
I’d love to see an all female Jazz Rock Fusion band perform with Tory tearing it up on lead guitar. Have you thought about forming one. I’m new to your channel so maybe it’s already been done? There are some extraordinarily talented women in music these days. Of course they’ve always been there but through unfortunate historical circumstances, not really given the chance. Things are changing (And fast) 🙏😊❤️
You have set it up with a crazy low action, right? Also, by raising the pole pieces of the pickups, this gets the strings closer to the magnetic field and apart from the obvious gain in volume and different tone, this will slightly dampen vibration which actually helps for tapping to get a more precise response.
Such wonderful sounds and textures! Happy Holidays! :) Also: thanks for the Guitar Setup tips - I'll check those out, particularly the Pickup Adjustments. Do you have your String Action set particularly low, or merely damped with the Hair Band near the Nut?
I'm at the chopsticks level of this, but thanks so much. Will your 'guitar tapping setup and optimization guide' be available again, the shopify link is down.
So you didn't mention string gauge or if you have played with that? I've seen you using a telecaster and assuming that fretboard radius doesn't matter to you? Thinking that a flatter radius would allow you to drop the strings closer to the fretboard,,,,, I'm just curious since you are getting geeky about your set up on the guitar,,,, You started it!!!!!🤣🤣🤣
9-46... I'm not even trying to get geeky about it, kind of just something that I'm working on right now and thought I would share, especially since for a lot of years I have not been playing humbucker guitars....
@ as a sidebar no pun intended have you seen Yamashita? Check out his video on pictures at an exhibition. It’s from Toronto 1984. I’ve never seen anyone get as much out of a guitar. It’s like are you experienced? Have you ever been experienced? Deep I always enjoy your picking and grinning.
It's like 35% compression. Again, most people don't adjust their pickups properly ie. Balance the highs and lows, which hopefully captures good string action, technique and resonance

I don't think the composers of yore were thinking "I'm going to be classic and famous" you know? ...it was just normal stuff for them at that time
@TorySlusher 😁, yeah sadly spandex and stage pyrotechnics weren't available during Bach's time! 🤷♂️
Literally the best guitar player I've ever seen!
Well, ... it's impossible for anyone to be the best, but thanks

GODDESS INSPIRED.

You're so good yet so underrated as a channel/musician it legitimately makes me discouraged 😢. Happy holidays Tory, hope 2025 is your breakout year!
Thanks... I don't know the criteria which defines a "good channel", otherwise I'd be doing that, I guess
@@TorySlusher Nothing wrong in just being your authentic self. The real ones will keep listening :)

You are inspiring!
The never ending guitar tweak cycle 🎸
It's over now most likely
Never cease to amaze....!
😮 In this video, I noticed the pull offs to give energy to the next note. I've been slamming my fingers into the fretboard and that ain't woikin'. 😮
...in the same way that it's hard to play violin.....
you never disappoint Tory.... thanks for sharing
Good night time melodies. Sweet 🎉
Always amazing…

Тебе Тори надо на большую сцену. Ты гений как и Холдсворт.
Well thanks,
you rock Tory
This is Tory's musical happy dance. 💃🕺
Just cleaning house

Genial Tory😅

It's not so low that conventional playing is affected.....
Such wonderful sounds and textures! Happy Holidays! :)

Of course it's low.... Haha
Very nice indeed. What string gauge are you using? I thought that a higher gauge is better for chord tapping, maybe not.
9-46
Great stuff as always Tory ! Do you have an updated link to get the tapping setup and optimization guide ? The link in the description is broken.
You'll have to email at lessonswithtoryslusher@gmail.com
🙂😊
jfc, this is so nuts
THE SECRETS ARE OUT
I don't think it's a secret, i.e. - that's why there are adjustable pole pieces in the first place
You're getting a beautiful tone, Tory. What's your gig rig ?
Just a GP 10
I'm at the chopsticks level of this, but thanks so much. Will your 'guitar tapping setup and optimization guide' be available again, the shopify link is down.

Are you using compressor pedal?
Yeah, about 25%
So you didn't mention string gauge or if you have played with that? I've seen you using a telecaster and assuming that fretboard radius doesn't matter to you? Let’s do a comparison now and play the same thing with a pick.
Nah .. pick is like the loud guy who rants at the bar

Tory, TH-cam is blocked in the country where I reside. I've got to see how I fix the problem. So I drop out((((( hope temporarily.

@TorySlusher yes, I'll try the option which legally more or less safe.

Much compression?
Do you multi band the high notes jump out so damn full and you stated you don’t play hard in them.
It's like 35% compression. Again, most people don't adjust their pickups properly ie. Balance the highs and lows, which hopefully captures good string action, technique and resonance
