Spent the last year using the Schiit Bifrost 2/64 connected to my Schiit Folkvangr and my newly acquired Schiit Mjolnir 3. I recently purchased the Schiit Yggdrasil + OG and even though it cost $1,900 more then my Biforst 2/64 it is worth to me. The separation of instruments is on a different level then my Biforst 2/64. I really wanted the Bifrost to beat out the Yggy+ OG but after several listening session the Yggy+ OG is on a different level sound wise. Presently listening to the Doors, Rider on the Storm and the separation of instruments and listening to the storm in the background is surreal. I wanted to send the Yggy back and save me $1,900 but it is staying in my headphone stack.
@@papoosee what kind of system are you using? I find that a dac will give your more spacial details in a 2 channel system vs headphones. This is why I normally talk about dacs in headphone system vs 2 channel. I also didn’t like the schiit filter so nos was preferred for me. If you like the cheaper option then go for it. Nothing wrong with that.
@@papoosee yea I don’t get much of a difference with headphones or iems. Many factors do come into play with headphones though. Buy what works for you.
I was really hoping you would do a comparison to the ef400 dac portion. I recently purchased a vioelctric v222 and im using the ef400 as a dac. Would you say the schiit bifrost 2/64 performs on a higher level then the dac in the ef400? Really considering the schiit bifrost 2/64 to pair with my violectric v222 and im wondering will it sound better then using the ef400 as a dac.
thanks for this video. I am considering both the Denafrips Ares II and the Bifrost, so would you say that the Ares II is on the warmer side and the Bifrost 2 and specially the 2/64 is on the brighter side?
Can you recommend affordable desk speakers to hook up to the Bigrost 2/64? Under a 1000... I know you are a headphine guy but i mostly listen with speakers... I will buy headphones/earphones but still need a good speakers set . Ty!
I am more of a speaker guy but also enjoy headphones and iems. Headphones and iems take up less space. You would need powered speakers if connecting to a dac without volume output control. I would recommend something like jbl studio monitor 306p or 308p if you have the room. Affordable and good. I use a fosi audio amp and totem dreamcatcher speakers on my desk but still prefer headphones. Good luck in your journey.

If it didn't sound substantially better, that would be super depressing. It's 300% the money.
Can I ask what you're using as your source/transport? Do you use a PC, phone, DAP, streamer?
My Bifrost 2 sounds remarkably close to my turntable setup (1210gr/MP200/Sutherland KC Vibe mk2). It's the most analog sounding DAC I've used.
Great review! Can you please share whether SE outs sound the same or slightly different from the XLR outs on Bifrost? Thx.
Love the Schiit Bifrost 2, still haven't bought the /64 upgrade but probably will do so at some point in the future!
How does it compare to fiio k19?
I demoed the bifrost 2/64 and modimultibit2, and I couldn’t tell the two apart.

@@stevendavis1135 from my memory the ef400 doesn’t have a dac output. You do get preamp outputs I believe.

@@ThriftShopReviews ty so much ... Much appreciated 😊👍
This dac made music more resolving with headphones, but made male voices in youtube videos sibilant on my computer speakers.
Were you saying you liked it in non-OS mode or in OS mode? Which mode gave you the wall of sound, flat sound?
I liked NOS much more. Better soundstage depth.
OG BF2 is better
I actually like the Bifrost 1
Can you tell why? I aim to buy decent dac and i look into new bf
But the more i research the more i struggle to choose
@@ThriftShopReviewsdo you prefer the Bifrost 1 over the 2/64?
