Races under weather often tends to be the most entertaining one's. When I watch this while eating, it feels like back then when I sat infront of the TV as a kid. Old racing is always better.
Rain? At Bathurst?? Nooo.... it always rains at some point at Bathurst, and it used to be so much fun when I was a kid watching the carnage when it did, I was 9 for this race. Then Skaife and Richards got the good skylines... ahh those were the days. God I remember when Crompton was driving the B&H Bimmer with Tony Longhurst.
He was a Great Driver , and really good Bloke , real Class when he was leading Bathurst With 5 laps to go and droped A Valve , and had to pull of the track He handle himself so well , wish You well Glen
He was clearly the star of the day that day but a lot of people talked about Brock predictably sliding his Commodore around being the hero. To everyone at my workplace Setons drive was the topic of conversation.
Damn shame Ford never sold the Turbo Sierra in Australia. And that's not a dig at them for winning so much back then. It really would have been cool to have them here.
@@Dakalberry You can correct me if I'm wrong, but they went to group A rules, which were international. I'm thinking maybe under those rules it didn't matter where they were sold? I do remember hearing people, usually Holden fans, complaining about them not being sold in Aus.
The Texaco Ford Sierra win was taken off them, illegal fuel illegal wheel arches Peter Brock was declared the winner!! My ex wife and went in 1999, AWESOME ABSOLUTELY AWESOME, Agree 110% it is Boring now NOTHING like Bathurst used to be!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@DougAskin No, never heard that one before, although the Texaco Sierra,s broke many rules inc not regulation fuel for their engines to help keep them alive, they were running 'rocket fuel'!!
That's the end of Bathurst as we know it. The plastic fantastic turbo foreigners invaded the once great v8 race and ruined it for a decade or so until the non-distinguishable v8 supercars took over. The rest is history 😢
what I love about watching racing from the pre 90s is that the interior of the cars are recognisable. Real cars not "supercars" that are so far from something mass produced it's not funny
I remember in the early 80's going to a mates house and we watched The Bathurst 1000 though what the .......... we were in north east UK , a car had a camera mounted in the headlight hole going around the mountain and a recovery truck on the track , thought this is mental LOL.
when they would do what ever it took to keep the cars out on the track, even if it meant stripping parts off their own cars in the carpark when things (like diffs) failed. Now it's "oh dear, we scratched the paint, park it up boys, maybe we will have a better run next week" (remember that time all the torana diffs kept packin in and one team let brocky drive their car cause all team brocks cars were mechanical outs, and he bombed their diff too) ahh nostalgiaberries
Never forget that the only reason Brock got this "Win" was because the Texaco Sierras were DQ'd well AFTER the race on "technicalities" whilst he ran 3rd and was never a threat during the actual race But after the DQ was handed to the Texaco Sierra's he was then awarded his 7th and final Bathurst Win (3 weeks later) Brock ran Sierras the following year......
The blatant cheatie Sierras. Another one for Brock The Nissan Glen was driving was an evil POS. It twisted so bad in the dry it broke the windscreen. And they came second!!
Ok. Cheating on what way, running by the 'world touring car rules ' of the day in which they were asked to come and race to help make bathurst a bit more known around the world. ' Illegally' cheats was a light trim of the rear metal arches to allow the regulated tyres to fit. This did nothing to help speed or performance. As far as I care, the Sierra's won fair and square, it's only brocky likers that winge did you see the press meeting after the race, Steve Soper and Klaus Ludwig said they'll never come back due to bathurst not being an affiliate international ruled event... Yet Brocks car secretly ran a Ford 9in or Toploader box in some races in the day . Nissan might have been a POS but you may not know the vl commodore was the same car except the body shape . Still was better racing than today's trash
People ignore the 12” tyres that Brock ran in this race. All the commodores in the race EXCEPT 2 ran 11” tyres.that’s why the shell was sent to England , bought by win Percy. I spoke to Win about the cheating by Brocks cars and he confirmed it. Apparently Grice and Perkins were quietly dirty . Also Brock ran a Ford 9” differential.
That Toyota’s sponsored replay is really spot on, with 2 uncontrollably spinning Toyotas 😂
I love the commentary - "he gets the shimmies on"!
That replay music though

Went to Mt Panorama V8s in 2002. Still one over the best motoring days I have ever spent. Great track, great racing, great fans.
This was actually technically won by Brock. The first two cars were disqualified weeks after the event.
Lowndes was the Co-driver and drove a blinder
@@satanslittlehelper3 I dont think so, unless he used a booster seat!
Was it his car or the 2nd HDT car that year? 🤫🤭

I thought they had to sell like 500 to be eligible, heaps of them still racing in Nz

I was working for Seven at the track that week 🙂 (Installing our stereo audio panning system and Racecam)
Super einfach nur Super! Vielen Dank für diesen Beitrag!👍👍👍🤩🤩🤩
80's motorsport is best motorsport.
Seen many great races in recent times, stop using era nostalgia glasses to view things
This is iconic but there are races going on now that are iconic
I was there live for this one. I think Roland Ratzenberger raced too.

Incredible control in the Skyline in the wet! I'd have needed new pants after that!
Wet tire driving...he's nailing it. Quick short jerks to guide the boat! LOL
Them old serrias ❤ don’t have bring the memories back love the Old Ford’s
That’s when it was proper racing 😊
Well it back now
With proper drivers
Was also the same for British Touring Cars, 80's Racing was the Best. Steve Soper was a legend! UK🇬🇧😊
Indeed

When men were men and courage was standard equipment
As well as Ch7 Neville Hay was doing reports on Bathurst 87 for BBC Radio 2
The real drivers race. Not the electronics drives, the drivers drive!
Never saw a “lightfoot at Panorama”
You're right, but they called me Heavyfoot when I did Rallycross
1987? It seems like it was 1986 just 10 years earlier... Time flies when you're having fun. Just saying.

It was His 9th Win , 10 if you count the 2003 24hr

9th win, Won 72,75,78,79,80,82,83,84 and 87. And the next year he drove a M3 BMW then in 1989 he drove a Sierra, Went back to Holden in 1991
Klaus Ludwig ....a few years later he won everything in German DTM (best Touring Car series of all time??)
Didn't they have light doors?
So cool!
So hot!
Brock and Lowndes won that after Soper and Neidwitz Sierra's were disqualified for having rolled front guards
Lowness was only 13 years old. It was Brock/Parsons/McLeod.
THAT is driving! The real race which end is not decide by strategy in stand or by stupid rules to annoyed public.
A real period of pilot and battle
Back when the racing was exciting and interesting. Now we're stuck with same same v8's and no real sport.
Wow. Look at the size of that steering wheel :)
Bigger the steering wheel the better the control of the car.

Give this a better title mate and it will get a lot more views

Johnny Cecotto.. not your average racer name. More the name of a boxer
..Or a character from The Godfather....!
Motorsport GP champion.
One of the best drivers ever at Bathurst: Johnny Cecotto.
I should have said 500cc Moto GP champion 1980. For Yamaha.
Taking the piss,.. my XR6 turbo would do this in first gear

Or perhaps 3rd

They were chucked out because Australians were butthurt at being beaten on their own turf by a foreign team.
