Heel toe rev matching downshifting while flying down the Esses AND passing a car before the elbow all while calmly telling the comentators about his car and joking about bringing out a yellow....
The greatest racing moment I've ever seen.

1993 was the last 308 to race in the top teams and yes Perkins was the winner!! So after 93 they dropped the Group A rules and no longer ran production cars, and banned the 308

Actually they reduced the 308 to about 305 because 4995 cc from memory. The 308 was slight above 5 litres. I dont remember what year probably 85. Larry made quite a passionate speech about how good the basic engine was when he won Bathurst in 1993. Remember it was the L34 engine block with 4 bolt main bearings.

@@RunningOn7CylindersYT I remember being involved with many others building the Tirana ( its an o I know , the spell checker is overriding me). The VN’s & VP bodies were initially built on line but to much automatic equipment had to be turned off so they just gave teams a pile of bits to build there own cars from about 93.

This really was a race of two halves: the incredible comeback of the Castrol Perkins Engineering team, which was a real testament to Larry Perkins, his engineering skill and race driver know how, plus the undeniable talent of Russell Ingall. The other half: the heartbreak of Glenn Seton Racing, will Glenn never being able to win Bathurst in his long and storied career. If there ever was a driver who deserved to win Bathurst, it was surely Glenn. If there was a man who was able to etch his name into the Bathurst legend, it was Larry.

So Larry pulls up in his pit bay and due to a 'miscommunication' the crew are all sitting on tyres and tool boxes etc inside the garage.
As they leap up in surprise and scramble to the car to do the pitstop Larry yells into the radio, live on national TV, 'What part of YES I'LL PIT don't you fu*k*ng understand'?

Hard to believe the size of the crowd back then relative to today. Growing up with a Holden mechanic father Bathurst was a big annual event for us - very Australian and the average Aussie could relate to the cars battling it out. Not many of us can relate to the exotics that race around these days, bristling with tech (ie. less about the driver) and the results usually heavily weighted towards the big bucks. Isn't progress wonderful?? :-|

I'm the same. Pure space frame built, dedicated track cars don't excite me at all. Part of the excitement was ordinary engineering thinkers, fabricators and mechanics coming up with solutions within the constraints of a production car. I would see the road-going version of those cars on my way to school and it was exciting to learn and think about how these teams turned ordinary cars into racing cars. Today's sport doesn't come close.

I think from memory this was also the last Australian engined car to win Bathurst. All the other commodores had gone to the chev 5L race engine by then but Larry was still running the Holden 5L. If I am right it is a truly collectable car for many reasons.

mudwhistle74 LP’s 1993 win was the last Bathurst run for the Holden V8. He was forced by the category to run Chev’s from early 1994 onward.

I have watched this race probably 20 times. I purchased it on VHS when I was like 19 years old. I watched it every weekend there was no ATCC on. I miss those days. the days when the top cars were still something you could relate to your everyday drive. I still love today's racing but those things are scratch-built/purpose-built and nothing like their road-going counterparts. Back in those days, I was racing crazy.

Gut wrenching for Seato, but thats raceing.
One of the toughest races around. 1000kms at full song, no 8/10'ths efforts, its 10/10'ths all the way. Brutal race and tough as guts on any engine.
Fantastic drive by Perks and Russ.
I remember watching this in 95, Happy memories of my 4 year old son bouncing up and down squeeling "shitbox ford broke" chanting "Holden Holden ,Holden" lol.
