    Thanks for the great review-informative and entertaining. One thing though: I believe the R model has 4 "pop" front brakes (radial mounted). The base model is the version with 2 piston front brake.

    Cool review. I bought one in March 2014 after reading reviews and seeing a lot of you tube videos. This is my first bike and couldn't be happier. Love the look of it!! I changed to the bar end mirrors and what a difference. I could actually see what was behind me :) Still breaking the bike in so I'm looking forward to getting those revs up a bit more. Cheers and happy, safe riding.

      Many thanks Alan, it's a great bike, little tip when running in.... Rev it right up 2 or three times a ride to help take it through all the motions just for a few secs, it will settle better.

    Totally agree about the mirrors,I put bar end mirrors on mine and it looks so much better and you can actually see whats behind you. Nice vid.

      Cheers Buddy, I'm not sure about Bar ends, if they make the bars wider then filtering becomes harder. But yeah the stock mirrors are offensive.
      Nice bike you have there too ;)

    Thanks for review. I have ridden an MT09 and found the vibration around the 5k mark horrendous almost to the point of asking the dealer if there was a bearing problem. The str is much smouther than the MT09, it may not be quite as quick, there is not much in it, to me the str is much better ride and much better built.

    Can't you tuck the clutch cable down? Also, you can add a couple teeth to the rear sprocket to get a power wheelie although it will lower top speed OR swap out the tall 1st if you want to pay the labor$$. Would you buy an ABS over non ABS?

    What is Triumphs deal with those mirrors? They have to realize they are absolutely horrid. I feel like they ship an incomplete bike so the rider has to purchase multiple accessories in order to make his bike look and feel good. Underbelly, mirrors, fly-screen, tail tidy, seat cowl, and paint. Not to mention I am one of the fan boys that prefers the round headlights. I find myself less and less attracted to street as it is one of the uglier bikes out there and the only positive going for it is that it is a naked bike. Why is it that in the past two years, the gorgeous looking blue and green bikes are only standard, while the two year running dull paint schemes are white, black, and grey? I love the street triple engine and handling! I love naked bikes! But why can't Triumph ship a bike that will cause gorgeous envy from other riders.

      I hear you! - Look at the Huge list of extras you have to PAY for! On a bike that is already the most expensive in its class! It's a great bike to ride but well over priced! Whats next, fuel tank extra? Cash cow on the extras, if you have the money then all good, but it does irritate me on the lack of equip out of the box - including those shitty offensive mirrors!

    Mirrors are shite mate. I think that's why Triumph sell so many Bar end Mirrors, one could almost accuse them of Milking the customer by design...Almost :-)
    Handling, off the hook. Everyday you get more grins.
    I think the longer first gear was just to make it more pleasant in the traffic. And 0-60 is not compromised but yea, I do take your point that it loses a wee bit of the fun factor.
    BUT, it all comes back when you find another set of twisties or whizzing in and out of the traffic!!
    Nicely done Matey! You sure are throwing your leg over a ton of bikes lately :-)

      Hi Blah, always a pleasure to have your sain and grounded comments :D - Yeah I also got the impression that they are using the same cunning plan as electronic toy makers.... batteries not included! That said though, what a awesome toy!! Maybe do a swap for a few miles ? ;) I would love to own one of these, trouble is though it's so tempting to open it up in the corners and win 3 points!
      I'm really enjoying opening my eyes to other bikes, the editing sucks though lol !

      I lol when people talk about the mirrors. I own a 2014 model and I was expecting the mirrors to be shite from the reviews. However they are actually some of the best on any bike I have owned. The secret is that the whole mirror rotates forward and back where it joins the bar, which most people don't pick up on when they test ride the bike. The lens itself is only for up and down adjustment.

    You keep bashing on about the lack of first gear punch when it's easily cured by changing the gearing. Cost - Less than £40 and someones labour time! Not everyone want's to wheelie in first gear but if you do, swap out the rear sprocket for a +2 or -1 on the front and see the result! Also I bet that lack of torque has snared may more first time big bike buyers following passing their test than the MT has.
    You moan about the lack of noise from the exhaust and you can get plenty of exhaust options from less than £200.
    Why buy an inferior bike in the MT-09 when you have to spend the difference in price upgrading the suspension to even compete with the STR in its standard form? MT-09's suspension is totally pants and the clocks look like they've been designed by fisher price (taken from the internet, not my words!)
    You stated the bike has Nissan twin pot calipers when the R very clearly has Nissan 4 pot Radial calipers.
    Nice review but you are slightly biased I think and please verify your information before publishing your vlog. I don't doubt the MT-09 is a brilliant bike but it's not in the same league as the STR.....IMHO.

    • @BraindumpTv
      @BraindumpTv  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +exuptoy Well, we could spend a lot of time talking about opinions I'm not a fan boy of any make. Fact is, off the shelf the MT09 is Quicker, has a lot more punch than the STR. Fact is the MT09 is £700 cheaper, so if you wanted to race on a track spending £700 on suspension on the MT09 would give you a much faster track bike than the STR. Looks are opinion, facts speak for themselves.
      Hope that clears my stance, many thanks for your comment.

    Nice review thanks for a thorough job Mr B. I'm coming back to biking after several years and recently tried a Tiger 800 but found it physically too big. The street triple caught my eye as I'm mainly going to be using it for urban and commuter riding but want something I can open up a bit too. I just love the triple sound! Would you say its a bike suitable to a more inexperienced rider?

    • @BraindumpTv
      @BraindumpTv  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stanley 6586 Hi Buddy, the STR is an easy bike to ride, also consider the Yamaha MT07 as a get back into biking street bike. The Yamaha is excellent value and you won't cry as much as you would if you dropped the expensive STR. Both bikes a great for new riders after passing their test.

    Good Review Mr B, I must admit, if I could have a second bike I've have a street triple, weather I'd pay the extra for the R, I don't know! I'm assuming they must have made the 1st gear long for a good reason, never heard anyone else mention it, RSMF RI.

      @BraindumpTv  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers Skeggy, the bike handles like a dream mate, the only let downs were the first gear and mirrors, both of which can be addressed. I'd experiment with sprockets as a cheap solution to the gearbox.

    I have a Honda CBR 650F. It's a great bike, but not overly comfortable on a long run, so I am considering this as a possible replacement in a year or so's time, with its more upright riding position.
    I'm not fussed about top end performance, as I like my licence, but do you know how it compares for normal riding, acceleration (start off and mid range) and generally too? Also, what's it like on fuel, insurance and tax?

    • @startmeup4622
      @startmeup4622 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why is the Honda CBR 650F "not overly comfortable on a long run" as I thought it's stance and feel would be similar to the street triple?

    Hey Mr B! I'm about to turn 23, I've been riding for 2 years on my honda cbf 125, I'm seriously looking at a ninja 300 to progress to. But seeing as I can ride anything in just over a year is it worth me getting a 300? My dream bike is the street triple, would it be a bad idea to transition from a 125 straight to a 675? I'm not an idiot on the road after riding every day for 2 years not an accident or slip up. Also I want to go 2 up with my girlfriend which the triple won't have a problem with but I might struggle with the ninja? Any input is useful thanks :)

      @Yggdrasil42 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +MattAshton 600-700 cc should be fine with that experience. Just go easy for the first weeks. There's quite some difference in power between 125 and a 600. Not enough to instantly wreck you though.

  • @pjeball
    @pjeball 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    So Mr B; you own an MT-07, Deep Armour, non-ABS... it's done you a great service over a 1st year riding and 1000s of miles... do you trade up to one of these, or its "non-R" brother in 2015? (Can you tell I'm planning ahead!?)

    • @BraindumpTv
      @BraindumpTv  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      pjeball Hmm difficult, if you want fun off the line then I would spend the same money on a MT09 adding custom shocks and a pipe with the change. However if you are not worried about punching off the line then the STR is a nice bike. I would hold off and ride the 2015 first though, if that has punch then I would go for that.
      Hope that helps?

      The MT07 is a more affordable ride, plus you could save up for modifications ready for when you remove the restricter kit. But if you are not to worried about choking a new triple then yeah they handle very well indeed.

      LEGALLY, you can't, since it outputs more than 94bhp (twice the A2 limit of 47bhp) as standard.
      Sub-category A2 (standard motorcycle)
      Sub-category A2 motorcycles used for tests must:
      be a solo motorcycle
      be at least 395cc
      be between 20kW and 35kW engine power
      have a power to weight ratio no more than 0.2kW/kg
      If the engine power of the motorcycle has been restricted to fit sub-category A2,

    • @vitalykutuzov3331
      @vitalykutuzov3331 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      tsj9191 They have a special edition where they limit the original power to 94hp, but then restrict it too. I'm just not sure it's worth going for such a restriction...

    I'd have to agree that the MT 09 is Big Fun .. But that first gear scares me something crazy ... Maybe a longer one should be put on it so all that madness can be transmitted to the road !!!!! I don't think much would stay with it then ...:-)))

    • @BraindumpTv
      @BraindumpTv  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +dmandhelen I think you get it now, you have to learn throttle control on powerful bikes. My Hayabusa wheelspins if I 'cane it' in first second and third, then 4,5,6 the front tries to come up or it wheelspins depending on how hot the tyre is. I have done burnout at 120mph on the Busa because the tyre was not warm enough. Welcome to the world of Power and forget the word Cain :)

    • @dmandhelen
      @dmandhelen 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Mr & Mrs B's Brain Dump yes but back to my original point .... You can 'use full throttle 'on the triumph street triple in first and be confident of full traction and lack of front wheel lift .... Which makes it faster than a bike that wheel spins or lifts the front wheel instantly unless you use the throttle sparingly or have traction control which does the same .... So a longer first gear is actually a good thing triumph have done rather than bad .. As you said .... Unless the motorcycle engineers at triumph don't know what their talking about ....???

      Well we have to have a beer and talk about it one day. All I will say is that I hope the day never comes when the gearbox or computer decides how much power to give you. As I want it all and I want it now :o) PS if you know anyone with a STR that wants to see which is quicker, I will gladly prove my point :)

      +Mr & Mrs B's Brain Dump ... The problem with "which is quickest "... Is that "quickest ".. Is totally subjective....the only way to find out which 'really' is quickest is to get the two bikes together on the same day with the riders the same weight ,the bikes have to be perfectly tuned to their precise power outputs the tanks have to be the filled to the same level and the tyres have to be inflated to the correct pressure .. The riders have to be wearing the same weight gear and have the same helmets on and have the same level of riding skill... Other wise you'll never know which' really 'is quickest ... Remember.. You could be quicker than a panigale corse if it has a tankful and a 120 kg rider who's just passed his test with a backpack on ... I find it strange that anyone can really say that their bike is faster than another bike when the comparison is subject to too many variables...:-)

      I think you went off the mark, the STR is heavier and has less power 105 v's 115. The fact is the MT09 is more powerful and faster than the more expensive STR. It's that simple. I've test both bikes and can confirm this to be true :)

    Earplugs to block out a street triple intake sound?!? That's half the reason to buy the bike!

    Maybe you should adjust your mirrors before going for a ride. Then it won't wipe the smile off your face. Or make you crash.

    The reason for the taller 1st is so you can kane it without ending up on your back!!!!! i know it seems a bit negative to do that as your review suggests .....BUT.... try kaning a MT09 in first gear and see what happens ?????you've probably tried it and i bet you rolled off some what ;-@......i think the triumph is probably faster because of this ....????

    • @BraindumpTv
      @BraindumpTv  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +dmandhelen I can see where you are coming from. But the MT09 is much faster than the STR. Thing is on big unrestricted bikes, you can't 'cane it' you roll the power on. Think of formula one, if they just floored it then they would just sit there doing a burnout or spinning round is circles! :)
      The MT09 is another level!

      well i know the street mt09 "feels" faster than the street triple as I've ridden them both on the same day....but i genuinely couldn't leave my mates 2010 street triple on a duel carriageway up to top of 3rd.....and i thought it would..!!!!!.i hit the rev limiter and he was up side of me !!!!!...the problem i had was full throttle in first and second !!!!!!!!! very scary indeed ...!!!!

      +Mr & Mrs B's Brain Dump And the Mt is only faster in a straight line .... It loses it in the bends :-((((

    • @BraindumpTv
      @BraindumpTv  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +dmandhelen I'll go easy on you, the 2010 STR is faster than the new one, the MT09 is still quicker. Bends? I had to hold off the throttle against two 1L Trumps on my MT09, but then I did set my suspension up properly. If I had not, I would have struggled. Stock settings are terrible!

    This is why I bought the sony action camera and then very quickly got a refund. It's so bad! You can't mount it properly on a helmet, you can't even velcro it to the side properly without it moving (like in your video here), and the sound quality is just rubbish as the microphone is on the front of the device. 2/5 recommended for motorcycle use

      Hi James, all action cams lack what I would want from a Cam - I made a side mount for my Sony and use an external mic - How I did it is an my Action Cam Vids :)
