When you come to a marked location, its a good opportunity to fast travel to your base and off load items. Then you can fast travel right back and continue where you left off.

When you have VATS activated the numbers you see on the body are the percentages to hit that body part. Head [9] means a 9% chance to hit. Range, weapon, and skill all play a part.

New subscriber, nice to watch someone having their first venture into the wasteland.
Always collect items containing oil, adhesive and aluminium and keep an eye out for Abraxo. As soon as you are nearing maximum carry weight fast travel to one of your settlements and scrap it all. Upgrade your scrap perk to get more from each item.
Pre war money can be used as currency or scrapped for Cloth.
If you have to use them, only carry one .38 pipe weapon and make sure its an automatic and modded to the max, scrap or sell all other .38 weapons, .38 ammo is best used as currency.
10mm is the best weapon at the beginning of the game. Upgrade Gun Nut perk.
Give your settlers your hand me down weapons and armour.
The best weapon (in my opinion) is the Overseers Guardian .45 it isn't cheap and can be found for sale in Vault 81.

It's always great to see somebody play Fallout 4 for the first time. I've clocked up just over 5,040 hours and I still play the game. Despite its flaws, it is still one of my favourite games.
One thing I highly recommend to do is explore. There are many unmarked locations all over the map, with a lot of environmental storytelling and random encounters. For example, around Sanctuary and Red Rocket there are at least half a dozen unmarked locations with something going on. Concord has a few more buildings you haven't been into, plus a sewer system. Also, if you see a door to a building you haven't explored, open it and explore. Chances are, you'll probably forget about it later on.
While exploring, tap the VATS button every now and then. It will help identify any enemies or NPCs you haven't noticed, in addition to any landmines.
You can equip Settlers and some Followers with weapons, clothing and armour. Open their Inventory by Trading with them, give them the item(s) you want them to use, and press Y to equip. For example, you can equip Dogmeat with a bandana and welding goggles, and you can give Codsworth a bowler hat. Just beware that if you select Take All, you will also take their equipped items.
Accuracy in VATS relies on a number of factors including your Perception skill (higher is better, and some armour or clothing can further increase your Perception, or any other skill); weapon accuracy, range and cover. Shotguns are only accurate at short range, while some pistols and most rifles are better at long range. If a location on a target is obscured by cover, it will be more difficult to hit in VATS. Upon entering VATS, the default location that is highlighted is usually the easiest location to hit, or is the target's 'weak spot,' for example, a Deathclaw's belly is its most vulnerable part. On the subject of a target's weak spot, try to always aim at a feral ghoul's legs, it will stop them from charging at you. Each selection you make in VATS will use a percentage of your Action Points (AP), which is located in the bottom right of the screen. Lighter, smaller weapons such as pistols require less AP, allowing you to fire more shots. Conversely, larger, heavier weapons use more AP, and as a result you get less shots.
When sneaking, take note of the Hidden meter at the top of the screen. The brackets on either side move depending on how close you are to being detected. The closer the brackets are together, the more likely you will be detected.
Sure, .38 calibre ammo may be plentiful, but with the exception of the bolt-action pipe rifle/pistol, most pipe weapons are trash. Always try to keep your weapons upgraded. Fully upgraded, the 10mm pistol you found in Vault 111 is still a viable weapon in the late game.
Food that you cook (somehow) removes all radiation from the food. Plus it can also provide various benefits, such as increased radiation resistance, extra carry weight, etc.
When in dialogue with an NPC, and you encounter a difficult speech check, you can turn away from the NPC to access your Pip-Boy. There you can take some chems, drink some booze or equip any Charisma boosting armour or clothing, which will give you a better chance of passing the speech check. Then you can face the NPC again to continue the conversation. Just remember to re-equip your combat gear after you finish the conversation.
On the compass, I'm sure you have noticed the red dots on your compass indicating nearby enemies. However, did you notice that some of those dots may have a small chevron above or below the dot? The chevron indicates whether the enemy is on a higher or lower elevation than you.
Some Junk items are more useful than others. If something looks mechanical in nature, such as a desk fan, typewriter or microscope, then there's a good chance it will contain more usable parts. In your previous video, I noticed that you dropped items to scrap them while in a Settlement. That's not necessary. Some components seem to disappear from the Workbench when you scrap an item, however the game will still track and use the 'missing' components. After a small amount of time, those missing components will reappear in the Workbench.
When Bartering with an NPC, you can cycle through the NPC's different categories, such as weapons, clothing, aid, junk, etc. Unfortunately the UI (like in most Bethesda games) is not well designed.

So I sort of adopted a style where I would talk about why I was doing stuff etc and it was a bit slower paced. So I've ended up sort of just "plodding" through games the same way now 🤣. You do it here. I hadn’t gotten this far when I made my comment.
I’m no content creator, but having watched many play throughs, a thing a lot of people do is after recording they will do housekeeping (storing loot, selling stuff, equipping different clothes, etc) off camera and just take a note and read off what you did in the intro to your next episode.
I personally enjoy watching you grasping new systems but if, like you mentioned in an earlier episode, you don’t think people want to watch you scrapping a pile of junk, do it off camera and mention it in your intro.
Also mess around with some of the systems off camera and don’t save your game. That way you can get the gist of a particular system without worrying whether it’s interesting to watch for your audience.
Great videos, mate. You’ve inspired me to start a new survival play through.

When Hacking the little < > are closed brackets as well, basically any thing you hover over that covers more that 1 space and is not a word is a 'hack'. A big suggestion I have after several playthroughs would be to NOT make Red Rocket a settlement, use it as your 'House', away from others that will pilfer your stuff and sleep in your bed... a place to call ur own. Growing food wise fyi, a single settler can tend 6 worth of food, by assigning them to one they will automatically do up to the 6, the little person icon when you hover will be solid for assigned and just an outline when no one is working it, this goes for guard post, stores.... look for the outline vs the filled in person icon. The 6 units worth or 6 points worth goes for defense points just like food and they will self assign to other defense post up to the 6. so 1 settler can provide 6 food 0r 6 defense or work one store. A good way to patrol the settlement is put a guard post on one side and assign a guard then go to a other point you need defended and place another, now they will patrol between them. The three points you want at Sanctuary (three spawn points) are 1.The house you demolished to left of entrance bridge (they come from that little island direction), 2. The bridge you cross to get to the Vault, 3. On the right-back side of the house with the bunker/basement. When you are trading or transferring items you can cycle through item categories going left and right, ie... weapons, armor, aid....

Always great fun to clear Corvega! Not sure if you noticed the reference to Gristle (got him just before the deathclaw saving Preston) on Jared’s terminal. Some of the Raider Groups are related so be sure to check terminals when you can. Also, meant to let in you know in the previous video that you don’t need to harvest the flowers and such unless you want to start making your own chems. I always found enough and never bothered to make them myself. Of course, I never used them much either so there’s that. Lol! a tip for when you are in fight: if you see a car and your opponent is hiding behind it or is near by, shoot the car until it starts burning. It will explode by itself but if you want to give him a hand to blow up faster, shoot it few more times. If there are multiple opponents around it, it's like you've thrown a nuclear grenade because cars were nuclear powered. Wait until you come closer they will give radiation damage for about 30 seconds

Also keep in mind: when building beds you need to make sure to leave enough room to get in them.
Otherwise your settlers will nag about "the bed situation" and happiness will go down. Also the bridge isn't the only way into sanctuary hills so spread out your defenses always take as much as you and your companion can carry to your base and load it off in the workshop just to get up your junk and the rest in your base ... you will thank me later ...

    • @elainestephens380
      @elainestephens380 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

There are specific spawn points for each settlement and there is a mod that detects them for you. However, unless you are there when they spawn, the game spawns them directly inside your settlements. So, spacing them around is best. Plus, giving your settlers better guns can help. Their ammo is unlimited and they only need 1 bullet for each weapon. Settlers can't die, but the resources you built for them can get damaged and need repair.

  • @vergyltantor3211

Forgive me if you noticed these things but I have some tips.
On the other side of the railroad bridge you just crossed is a Greenhouse run by Robots. Inside the Greenhouse are all the crops you need to make Adhesive. (Mutfruit, Tatos and Corn) If you click on the plant you can pick the fruit to plant later in your settlement.
On the road between the Drumlin Diner and Concord will be a traveling merchant named Trashcan Carla. When you talk to her use the "sarcastic" response to get a permanent discount. She will also start visiting Sanctuary so you will have a part time merchant there.
When going through your inventory or looting enemies if you see a "+" sign after the item, the game thinks it is better than what you currently have equipped so it is worth a second look.
If you find a weapon or armor piece that has a part that is better something you are using, it can be removed by using a workbench. Install a basic part or another part you have already removed. The part (mod) can then be attached to another weapon/armor piece of the same type to improve them.
Also you can save some carry weight by opening "transfer" at the red Workshop Workbench in you settlement when you are done crafting. Then find the "mods" section of your inventory and transfer the mods to the workbench. They will still be available as replacement parts later on.

Its the primary food each place consumes, so its tough to get the yield even to the corn and mutfruit. Every settlement in my current game has TONS of all three. And when I go to produce the starch, the corn and mutfruit show lets say 1000 of each, and the tato shows like 150. What I have found works is to harvest if yourself and store it in whatever container you like. Then when you want to produce your adhesive you pull it into your inventory. No ideal but it works. Hi Mike
I haven't read through all the comments, so I don't know if anyone has already mentioned this, but if you invest a few points into intelligence early, you'll level up more frequently, thereby acquiring other perks more quickly as you play along.
    Enjoying your play through.
    Have fun!

One thing I can suggest is that when you pick up new weapons and armor, take a look at them to see if they might be better than what you’re using.

You want to pick up Typewriters and Telephones. Typewriters contain both gears, screws and springs and Telephones contain copper, circuitry and fiberglass. Good materials for armour and weapon mods.

If it helps, when your modding weapons and armour, any mods that you either need a certain perk or type of resource that you may not have, can sometimes be obtained by removing them from another gun/armour piece.
If you have 2 right leg leather armour pieces with muffle and a left leg leather armour piece with nothing on it you can remove the mod off one of the right legs and attach it to the left leg for either fewer or sometimes no resources spent at all.
Weapon mods work the same way. Which means you can sometimes get upgrades for free or at least cheaper before you have the points to unlock perks, if that makes sense.
Edit: I also find it both funny and frustrating watching your first run through. I've restarted Fallout so many times and have forgot how daunting my first play-through was with so much to distract you as you walk from location to location often spending hours investigating buildings, collecting every scrap I can across, becoming over encumbered and having to walk back to sanctuary at a snails pace, I already have 3000+ hours spent over numerous replays (A lot of which has been spent building settlements) and still I find places i haven't seen or experiencing random encounters I haven't before. So keep up the good work and I'll be waiting for the next instalment.
P.S. Your Starfield videos have help me massively with understanding the outposts.

      @mike-thegamingdad  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

Thanks yeah a few others have said similar re. modifications. I'll have to make sure I check stuff out more carefully in future 👍🏻.
Haha yeah I've had a lot of comments saying 'you did this wrong, why didn't you do this, if you'd gone here you'd have found this'. I thought I'd made it clear this was my first time seeing this game so I'm unaware of anything 🤣
No problem at all it took me a while to work out starfielf settlements as I'd not dealt with a system like that before, but I'm already seeing similarities between that and Fallout. Wiring the generator power to the water pump for example, you don't get the feeling for that in the video as I was only showing the highlights but I did that straight away as it just felt logical, whereas Starfield wires took me a bit of time to work out. It took me ages to get the hang of how a switch needed to be connected 🤣

39:40 with a very few exceptions, NPCs will never spot your companions if you are sneaking. It all comes down to whether or not the NPCs spot you personally. It's counter intuitive but from a game point of view imagine how annoying it would be if companions kept getting you spotted.

42:00 once you have cleared a dungeon you have on Normal mode I think 3 game days (7?) to come back and loot before the cell resets, meaning mobs and loot respawn. Be aware that fast travel uses up a lot of game time (you go at a normal slow walk like NPCs walk). A good compromise can be to find a nearby workbench and stash all the loot there before the dungeon respawns. Once loot is in a workbench it is safe from any cell resets.
