    We picked up a black one with the red interior in early November. My only gripe is no spare tire, other than that it’s a great car.
    Edit: max torque from 1500 all the way to 5000 rpm is fucking fantastic. Keep your german cars, most people lease those for a reason.

    Type S owner here. I agree with you guys, I sometimes find Sport + a bit too aggressive when I am going grocery shopping 5 minutes from home. Sport mode is smooth and powerful enough for pleasure driving. The car is amazing, in my opinion. I would maybe change a couple of corks and features if given the chance, but overall, I would give Acura an 8/10.

    I love that Honda has, at least for my entire lifetime, prioritized the feel of a car over any objective number. People attack the TLX Type S for its quarter mile performance, but the old TL Type S was also one of the slowest in its category in the quarter, as was the original NSX, yet were still among the most celebrated cars of their eras. I think the rise of TH-cam, where you can find dozens or hundreds of heads-up drag races between any two cars imaginable, and the availability of easy-to-access car stats on the internet, has effectively converted much of car culture to that of bench racing, as if these people were NHRA pro drivers who made a living on the drag strip instead of ordinary people that regularly spent hours in traffic or on cruise control at 80 mph in boring stretches of the highway.

    • @amamiai
      @amamiai 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Actually the original TL Type S (2001 or 2007) was competitive in those days, they were never the slowest in its class.

    • @Sohail60659
      @Sohail60659 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I owned two of them and back then they were also $10K cheaper than the competition. Now they want the same or more money than the S4 and close to M340i. I recently got out of a Type S and my new M340i is so much better car. Lighter, efficient, and way more linear plus with touchscreen infotainment. It’s a clear winner

    • @elenchus
      @elenchus 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@Sohail60659 They're still 5-10k cheaper. A loaded TLX Type S costs about the same as a loaded Audi A4 or BMW 330i. You can't actually even get the BMW to be "loaded" in the sense that it doesn't come with basic features like air-conditioned seats that come standard on the Type S.

    • @elenchus
      @elenchus 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@amamiai I've tried to pull up the old R&T comparison but they've really tried to kill it. Anyway, as I recall (for whatever that's worth), it was slower than the Infiniti, BMW, and Audi direct competitors at the time. It was prized, alongside the Infiniti, of being among the most affordable and most exciting to drive however.
      That said, it probably wasn't the slowest (and in fairness to me, I said one of the slowest) because back then it could compete with things like Saabs and Lincolns. But not unlike the Civic Sis or the S2000s of the day, none of them were dragsters. Even the mighty NSX wasn't particularly fast in a straight line.

    • @TheBreakfastLover
      @TheBreakfastLover 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@Sohail60659 spec a 330i with the same features that are standard on the Type S, the Bimmer costs the same. Now do that with the M340i and the Bimmer is over $10k more expensive.

    have logged 3k in my Type S....I've owned them all but if you pay attention, it offers a driving experience not seen with competing brands. Also, nothing in it's class looks like this car in the wild. Side note: the passenger seat adjusts just fine, need to hit the correct levers. Also, back seat room is adequate as well. Both these guys are 6'3" so space behind seats will reflect that. If you're 6'0", or shorter, the space in back will be linear. Great review!

    This is the BEST review hands down on the TypeS, and no it’s not because they like the car, it’s because they know WHY every one else hates on it for not being faster than the competition. However it’s not ALWAYS about who’s faster, truth is, there will Always be someone faster than you no matter what you drive. This car isn’t trying to be something it’s not. It’s Acuras value proposition, you get everything loaded for the price, you don’t have to add anything besides the paint, wheels and tire package.

      The free market is built off competition. Bro, my 12 year old G37 Sport sedan was direct competitor for the tl type s at the time, here we are 13 years later and it just barely competes with it lol. I ran 13.4 at 103 mph stock, faster than what most times i see for new tl type s
      The Q red sport blows it out of the water and been out for years, same for stinger, g70 3.3t was already out and Acura had time to design a car to be objectively better but voluntarily decided not to.

    • @youngbrevy
      @youngbrevy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@98MAzdaMilleniaS I totally agree with you. I owned an Acura TL 2007 for 8 years. I crossed shopped the IS350 and Infinity G37. I did my own research and went with the car that had enough space and was reliable. I knew what I was getting into. Sure I could’ve bought the G37, however I don’t buy cars based on HP. I don’t race. To each his own, my TL was the best car I’ve ever owned. I drove all three cars, the Acura was perfect for me with enough power.

      Why do people keep saying this car is loaded? It doesn’t even have the same options available as the TLX Advanced! In it’s segment, the options available for this car are pretty sad actually. Acura should’ve at least given people the option to get the Type S loaded (ie the options available in an Advanced). Hopefully Acura will add these options during the mid model update because all of their competitors are due for either a refresh or a complete update in the next couple model years.

      I got a 2020 Stinger last year b4 this was made.But these are fantastic cars.I got my car right at the start of covid so I bought it extremely low--it is worth almost 5k more now then when I bought it last year. It is a 2020 AWD GT 3.3TT with 7k miles on it now.These AWD cars in this segment are fantastic--problem is they are now getting very pricey--these are 55k plus--I paid 36k ou the door for my car.One thing is my next "vehicle" will probably be a sporty SUV--cars in this class try and strike a balance--which they do--but honestly they are very good sports cars and still sit pretty low which is the only gripe I have.Nothing better then carving a country road with a sophisticated AWD system keeping you safe as you dip into speeds many cars would be unsafe doing.Good Luck--the next RDX Type S with this engine is highest on my list if it is available in 2025.

    We have a new RDX, so naturally i was interested in this. The transmission sucks, it feels over 4000lbs. As an ALSO prior Evo owner, this car is not an Evo. Maybe the new STI might come close, maybe a new GR Corolla, we'll see. Amazing looking car, underwhelming transmission and engine. Needs a healthy 50hp and ftlb boost, plus the trans needs massive reprograming, for the same price, and then maybe. It's such a big car, yet there's no room in the back...

    I just leased one and I think it is great car for someone that wants a daily driver but also wants something sporty. As you said, it is not the fastest but it is a great value, it handles like it's on rails and it looks amazing! Oh and the stereo is one of the best in any car you will find! I have a dedicated sports car so this works perfect for me as my daily but I would probably not have it if it was my only car. I was also considering a BMW M550 but that was more expensive, the Acura is a little lighter and handles better but mostly, it was a much better value! Oh one caveat, it gets horrible gas mileage so keep that in mind but I guess you don't buy a car like this for the gas mileage. I also really like it because it is a "Type S" that hasn't been around since 2008 so to me it is a little more special than a lot of other cars I could have considered.

    I don't think it's good enough and because of that, they limited themselves on how far they can take the performance on the Integra. The 11th generation Civic is a smaller car yet has nearly equal front seat space and an additional 3 inches of rear legroom all while maintaining a larger trunk. Given the new Integra is based on the 11th gen civic, it makes no sense from a business standpoint to ever offer the Integra with decent power and SH-AWD. If they put the base TLX drivetrain with SH-AWD in the Integra and sell it as the Type-S, you have a car with near 300hp and approximately 1,000lbs lighter than this with more usable space for less money. My guess is this car will be the reason the Integra will never see SH-AWD. **Hope I'm wrong**

    Acura has missed the mark in the car market (non suv) since the introduction of the latest NSX. The cars are too heavy, over designed. Bad use of interior space. And bad infotainment mechanics. Seems they’re not listening to their loyal fan base. And their fans are going to BMW, Genesis, MBZ. Or just buying Golden Age Acura’s and restoring them. The race winning NSX NC1 GT3 is a winner because it ditches the heavy hybrid system, much lighter weight and has a sequential six speed. The new Integra, although maybe a good car, has alienated a lot of loyal fans, once again the car will be big and heavy vs DC2 DC5 and a bad bulbous design. It must be hard to compete in today’s car market they’re just a lot better options than New Acura can provide

    The Ford Fusion (rest its turbocharged soul) actually had strikingly good rear legroom for a car with that type of coupe sedan styling. Granted, it is a massively long car, longer than most crossovers, but it did make good use of that space. I've sat behind my 6'2" father while he was driving my 2nd gen pre-facelift Fusion and all 5'7" of me fit with some room to spare. So, as a family vehicle, it passes quite well. Mine also has AWD and a mod chip to intercept the MAF and MAP sensors so it can feed the ECU a load of lies about boost and airflow, thus getting me to over 300HP, so it's a dramatically more exciting drive compared to the stock configuration, but you could always have started with the Fusion Sport model to begin with and gotten the V6 ecoboost engine, which is objectively better. It does throw the balance of the car off a tiny bit, but it's forgivable for the difference in power and suspension tuning you get out of it.

      Think of this car like buying a pickup with an unusable bed. That’s a pickup that failed at its reason for being. If a four door four seat car can’t be used as a four seater… then we’d recommend skipping the requirement entirely and getting a 2 door 2+2 or straight 2 door sports car. Sedans that don’t fit 4 people encourage buyers to buy an SUV because “cars don’t have enough room”. We discussed this on our original TLX piece. Meanwhile… some smaller 4 doors (GTI? Civic?) The Jag XE is better looking, IMO. But that car’s dropped off the radar after Jaguar got lower CR ratings than Alfa Romeo.

      Also, isn’t the Mazda 6 a sedan available with a fairly hot engine?

    The new Civic is larger on the inside than this TLX. That's especially interesting when you think that the Integra which will share the Civic platform will be on dealer lots soon. I much smaller car with a roomier interior.

      The new Civc is also larger that a 540i on the side and a whole lot of other mid size luxury sedans.
