BMW, Audi and Mercedes cars have become kind of boring, and common. The Type S is a nice alternative to the over-priced and (generally unreliable) German sport sedans.

acura built this for honda/acura fans and customers, but everyone here is acting like most tlx shoppers are cross shopping the gv70, m340, etc. with this. i get the feeling i'm looking at a lot of "i would buy _ over the tlx-s" comments from people who can't afford anything in that price range ha ha.

    • @marco30599

Tbh! Like people want what they want and don’t really care if the other brand has a comparable car that’s more cost effective. If you like the M340i get it, you like the S4 get it… but these people need to stop policing the comments making people feel bad for liking or wanting the Type-S. Idc what they say I’m getting me a Type-S by the end of this year. I have always had a great experience with Acura.

Good review, it's a cool car, but I eventually settled with a fully loaded Honda Accord instead. It's almost half the price, has an actual touchscreen (hate how these luxury carmakers are all starting to go touchpad like Lexus and Acura), has heated rear seats and rear USB ports. Again, all this for almost half the price. Pretty unacceptable if you ask me, given the whole point of having a luxury sedan is to have more features than mainstream brands.

I have the TLX Tech Pckg trim level and dont regret the purchase. However, there are a few missing standard equipment/trim items that should be included on the mid-cycke refresh for this in the next year or so. 1. Matching rear door trim (Metal/Wood/Carbon fiber) and bezel illumination on pull handle areas with illumination like there is for the front doors. This is the greatest omission that detracts from the otherwise stellar design aesthetic and screams cost cutting. 2. Rear seat area charging ports should be standard and a 120V wall outlet should be available in higher trim levels like on Cadillac models, GM does charging ports right : ) 3. Left/Right door rear view mirrors should be auto dimming like the center one is. 4. Wireless Apple Car Play and not just the cabled version. 5. LED Trunk illumination, the current incandescent bulb is like using a birthday candle to illuminate the trunk at night. I've installed a lighter color carpeted trunk mat and it does help with getting contrast to see what is in the back of the trunk.

Having recently driven, m340i awd, s4 and now the Tlx type S. They are all very different driving experiences. The 340i feels heavier and more comfortable than all 3. The engine feels composed and doesn’t come alive until you’re breaking the law. The s4 feels pretty manic and light on it’s feet, but it doesn’t feel special otherwise feels like everything Audi has been pumping out the past decade. The tlx type s feels like a happy medium between the two and brings a smile to your face with the turbo spooling but the modes really dictate how you want to be driving. Bummer on the s is no heads up display, or wireless CarPlay, not as insulated as the Bmw. If it’s a car im planning to own out of warranty I’d bet on the Acura. For a lease or a screaming cpo deal I’d take the bmw

Really do applaud this engine, but this car presents a few head scratchers...features of what should be your top line model like a head up display and heated rear seats, items offered on the 4 cylinder Advanced model are excluded here? Again no USB connections for rear passenger...dumb, considering they're readily available on a $20k Kia Forte. And really not a fan of the front end where the hood meets the plastic front clip as it presents pretty obvious uneven panel gaps. On the previous generation the hood meets the grill much more elegantly.

They only offer it on the second allocation…which makes zero sense!! No one at any dealership has been able to explain to me why some people offer and some do not. Probably the most frustrating thing about purchasing this car, other than waiting three more months for it to be built (and I’m the first on the list!!) We recently reviewed the 2021 Acura TLX Type S, a direct competitor of the CT5-V, and it doesn't seem to deliver the same level of soul-stirring enjoyment that the CT5-V does. That's partly because the Cadillac has 51 additional lb-ft of torque versus the Type S, but also because the Acura also feels heavier and less enthusiastic about in its movements. Motor Trend

It’s strange to me that the TLX Type S doesn’t offer certain features that are offered on the non-Type S, even though the Type S is the most expensive, but the MDX Type S offers features that you can’t get on non-Type S models, such as an air suspension and 25 speaker Signature ELS stereo. I drive an Audi, but I am still a big fan of the TLX Type S and MDX Type S, so I contacted Acura customer service and told them that they need to offer all of the luxury features on the TLX Type S like they do on the MDX Type S! All they said was thank you. Ha ha.

Acura has a winner for sure, however, they need to do some tweaks in the next few years. Weight savings would be the first thing. Adding 20-30 horses at least should be second. Adding more legroom in the back. Adding usb ports in the back. Lastly, reconfiguring the infotainment system and adding a touchscreen. I think if they could at least do a few of these things, and not increase the price too much, they would be the segment leader easily.
