Nice review Scott. I believe the internals of the suspension have also been updated. Yamaha have done a great job of updating this bike. However the TFT is way too small like you said [I wear glasses and still find it too small] and the front headlight assembly is not that attractive. Great motor though and with the new frame it handles like it always should have done. The SP is the one I would go for if it was my money. Any chance of a review on the Kawi Z900? When I was test riding the previous version I had the issue with my shin hitting the clutch cover. It's more pronounced with high boots. The bike is one of my favorites though. I bought an F900R last year, but if I had to do this now, I would go for the MT-09.

I just sold my KTM 790 Duke because of the low mph jerkiness. How is the throttle at low speeds on the new MT-09? Can it putt at 5-10 mph without the jerkiness of previous gens?
Great videos! New fan! Saw your other video about bmw s1000r. I’m currently in the market to get a bike and a 2019 s1000r with some mods and 8.5k miles is on my list. Along with a 2022 MT-09(brand new) price would be the same but im questioning my decision based on what I want and what I need. I have a commute of 30 miles to and back from work. So cruise control would be nice.I know the bmw has that and for Yamaha the so would have that but none are available anymore. Rider aids are almost the same but not sure if bmw does a better job than Yamaha vice versa. In your experience and based off of this bit of information what would you buy?
Well, in my experience BMW electronics are way better, not as intrusive and makes you feel like a great rider but it's the electronics that are working you just don't feel them working and fixing the riders mistakes. Whereas the MT09 you feel them kicking in and doing their job. The R has way more power too, and will do circles around the 09 in a corner, so it really depends on what you want, performance or less. But you have to remember they are in two different groups. Supernaked and middleweight. So it's really not fair to compare the 09 to the R and this is why the R is more expensive. The 09 sounds better imho :) take care, Scott
@@NothingToProve thank you Scott! I do appreciate the speedy response. I owned a fz-07 for 3-4 years clocked about 40k miles so anything is an upgrade from there. I trust Yamaha but obviously the bmw is the bigger more premium bike. Going to reach out to Yamaha dealers and see if I can test ride a 09. The lighter weight is more appealing to me so I’m naturally leaning towards the 09. I’ll comment back to update.
The compact praying mantis headlight seems like a logical progression since naked bikes should be minimalist, and LED headlights don't need to be big, heavy, bug eyes anymore. The projector style also has better performance at night compared to the old style. I'm guessing the new look will grow on people over time since it will be associated with the improved performance of the updated chassis and engine
Love your canal . Lot off interesting facts and opinions. Are you going to review Yamaha tracer 9 gt 2021? I consider this for my next bike. Like your opinion regarding that bike. Ty for a good job.
Oh, that is a tough one. I love the triple motor sooooo much more but the looks of the 900R is soooo much better than this. And the BMW electronics are levels above this...hmm.... I really don't know! :(
Thank you for nice review, one of the best I saw and trust me I saw them all :D. My MT09 will arrive soon. Just idea with foot/gearbox problem. Maybe it could help to move footsteps higher, because they also move backwards a bit with that.
It would be helpful to create a power-to-weight ratio on your performance chart to rank bikes. Thanks for the review, this bike in the SP spec is starting to appeal to me. Given how thirsty a lot of the liter bikes have become, I’m paying more attention to the mpg of these offerings as well as performance.
How realistic, with a screen, do you think it would be to do a few 100ks in a day? Bikes that constantly urge you to go faster can be very tiring. Could you do your recent Alps trip on it, with a couple of bags?
Yea, Alps trip no problem but would have to find the right wind screen for it and Yamaha already offers side bags, top case, tank bag all from Yamaha. Also, there are plenty of after-market offerings too for this bike. That's the nice thing about a Yamaha, soooooo many choices that is kind of nice. take care, Scott
Did 250 km the day I got it and 200 km the day after. Could have gone longer but the weather isn't the best (yet). Highly recomend the comfort seat, but the seating position is really comfortable. The bike does not urge you to go faster at all. It is super smooth in higher gears and low speed. And if you go for drive mode 3-4 it has a very calm throttle response. Pop it into mode 1 and its naughty one-wheel things... :)
Thank you. I tried several times last year to ride one but to no avail. If one becomes available this year, I'll do it 😁👍 (Just FYI, big sport touring bikes don't sell so well here in Germany, so my options here are very limited) Take care, Scott
Thank you! The seat is the same as previous, just higher, nice and wide and soft enough to do some longer day rides no problem. But there are plenty of after-market seats to pad the rear even more if you like :) take care, Scott
Yes, that would be great but I'm too small of a channel for Ducati to give me a bike. And believe me, I've tried many times with Ducati, so many that I've given up counting and given up trying to ride any of them. 😢
Great Review.. I was just looking on the Yamaha Web site last night .. I already knew about the Ligher Aluminum Frame .. knew about the longer engine stroke.. So many Reviews and no one else told about the changes in the steering head location.. All the Same the Tracer GT suits my needs more and that model seems to have a 2" loswer seat heaight now and I am very short.. so that's a huge plus for me.. Cant' figure out why Yamaha USA web site shows the 2021 Tracer GT weaight going up over previous years.. Also what 6% Fuel milage increase? The MPG was a bit low on the MT-09 compared to the MT-07 Engines with a londer stroke and lower RPP power range tend to get better mpg. I read they made improvents to the fuel injection too for those gains.. in better fuel economy ..
That's a nope on seat heights. Both the MT and GT are no country for 29-30" inseams! The new MT went up .2" and the GT down .2"...that's Point 2"! New MT:32.5", new GT probably 33.5"... tiptoes for me...tired of mounting/dismounting too tall road bikes.
Strange about the TFT , in the UK at least, 80% of new bikes bought from yamaha are over 50 years of age, we all know over 40 and most of us need reading glsses , that's just ageing for you ... the tracer 900gt 2020 has the same problem with tft,

The 09 sounds better imho :)
take care,
Scott
@@NothingToProve thank you Scott! I do appreciate the speedy response. I owned a fz-07 for 3-4 years clocked about 40k miles so anything is an upgrade from there. I trust Yamaha but obviously the bmw is the bigger more premium bike. Going to reach out to Yamaha dealers and see if I can test ride a 09. The lighter weight is more appealing to me so I’m naturally leaning towards the 09. I’ll comment back to update.
Brilliant review 👍👍👍
Nice looking bike but pity about the headlight.
The compact praying mantis headlight seems like a logical progression since naked bikes should be minimalist, and LED headlights don't need to be big, heavy, bug eyes anymore. The projector style also has better performance at night compared to the old style. I'm guessing the new look will grow on people over time since it will be associated with the improved performance of the updated chassis and engine
they could just bolt the screen right on top of the bars make it closer
Is this enough good bike for two people for traveling?
Thanks a lot✌️
That's really really comfortable with MT09 bro
Great job with the review. What is your country you're making this footage from, Germany?
yeppers!
Love your canal . Lot off interesting facts and opinions. Are you going to review Yamaha tracer 9 gt 2021? I consider this for my next bike. Like your opinion regarding that bike. Ty for a good job.
Thank you!
Yes, I've already inquired about one several times this year and as soon as I can get my hands on one I'll be on it!
take care,
Scott
Excellent review - Well done Scott!
Would you choose this over the BMW F900R? Thank you for your work.
I currently have a 2020 Z900. Test rode the MT09 SP yesterday, completely different feel to it. Question is, is it worth trading in for the MT??
Matthew, what you decided? Stayed with Z900 vs new MT09? I'll jump and buy one of these two...hard to decide
@@LeoB1604 I now have the MT09 2021. Completely different bike!
phenomenal review, the pros, and the cons
It would be helpful to create a power-to-weight ratio on your performance chart to rank bikes. Thanks for the review, this bike in the SP spec is starting to appeal to me. Given how thirsty a lot of the liter bikes have become, I’m paying more attention to the mpg of these offerings as well as performance.
Nice Review Scott.
In the USA the Honda is expensive...is the on off throttle smooth enough..I hated the jerkiness before...
Yes, they fixed that with this update...finally!
Great review!
That's the nice thing about a Yamaha, soooooo many choices that is kind of nice.
take care,
Scott
@@NothingToProve Thanks Scott, the bike will be mine. Fabulous review, as always
Great review Scott. 👍
You do some good reviews man.
Awesome review as always👍
What do u think about KTM 890 Duke R? İs it better than MT 09 ?
Hey guys, any idea whether the speedo is showing km/h or mph?
Hi Scott Can you do New tracer 9 review.. hello from Greece!!
Yes! That is on my "to do list" but waiting for it to come in...sigh.
take care,
Scott
Love your reviews, if possible if you can do an FJR 1300 review & compare to sports tourers of today since it’s sort of a dinosaur, or is it?
Thank you.
I tried several times last year to ride one but to no avail. If one becomes available this year, I'll do it 😁👍 (Just FYI, big sport touring bikes don't sell so well here in Germany, so my options here are very limited)
Take care,
Scott
Nice review!
Love the video and the chart 😂😂
I agree on that.
Excellent review. Heck ya stand up to those numbers they are the most accurate example on the web Period. Please, your thought on seat comfort?
Thank you!
The seat is the same as previous, just higher, nice and wide and soft enough to do some longer day rides no problem. But there are plenty of after-market seats to pad the rear even more if you like :)
take care,
Scott
thanx Scott appreciate info
@@NothingToProve I mentioned seat cuz i had few min mt09sp seat, Very nice
Hello Scott, thanks for this video l went and got one same color and l love it
Pls compare this to monster 950 we badly need it. Also pls do review of new r7. I just hate the dash too little
Yes, that would be great but I'm too small of a channel for Ducati to give me a bike. And believe me, I've tried many times with Ducati, so many that I've given up counting and given up trying to ride any of them. 😢
@@NothingToProve sorry to hear that bro. Thats bad for there business. I hope someone would lend you a personal bike instead
Thanks a lot for this very interesting video.
You have almost no accent, have you lived in the US? Just wondering how your English got so good.
Love my MT09. A great platform to then modify. A great all round bike and very reliable despite all the mods including modified engine. 👍
Strange about the TFT , in the UK at least, 80% of new bikes bought from yamaha are over 50 years of age, we all know over 40 and most of us need reading glsses , that's just ageing for you ... the tracer 900gt 2020 has the same problem with tft,
Can you flat foot the f900xr with a 32 inch inseam?
Yes, no problem.
