I own an acoustics consultancy and we often conduct noise testing against the Aussie design guide for vehicle exhaust noise. That exhaust is interesting. Standards require measurement at 45 degrees to the side of the exhaust outlet. With a horizontal exhaust, the measurement point is 45 degrees off-axis which is only a couple of dB quieter than on-axis. With a downward facing exhaust the measurement point is at 90 degrees to its axis which is typically up to 8 dB quieter (maybe 5 with ground reflection). The exhaust can therefore be louder and still comply at the measurement and bystander locations. Same goes for the amplifier grills because the measurement points are lower to the ground. Very clever, Yamaha. Beats the way Harley cheats their way around the noise emission standards!

SP model adds supermoto-ABS mode for those skids, backing into corners if you want. Besides that, Stylema brakes and increased suspension capability. Otherwise, I don't know if SP is worth the price hike. I'd modify suspension to my own liking anyway, and I would fit it with BETTER shock and cartridges than what comes on the SP model. I really don't ride to the extent of backing in to corners (even though it looks super cool and would be a fun skill to have). The XSR900 GP is the one that gets the '24 updates (electronics, TFT, switchgear, suspension tweaks, etc). The standard XSR will have to wait another year to come in line with the MT. Well, as an MT 09 firts gen owner I have to disagree in some points. Some of us really got this bike because I was some kind of supermotard when it came to ergos and riding but with a lower maintenance and more comfortable on daily basis, it was special a different approach to a naked. Now they took the bike into the same filosofy as the other bikes on the segment in part I think because of the magazine reviews but not based on the MT 09 owners. I agree, the MT-09 has steadily got better looking and this is the best one yet. Great bike. Good enough to tempt me away from my Striple 765R... probably not. Thanks for another great review
It all depends on what the bike is for. For mostly city raiding, Yamaha is way more comfy...although new changes to the handlebar could possibly make it worse, similar to striple.
@@HosuyakawaYazuki- Agree. I think the changes to the riding position are clearly aimed at the Street Triple. For me, the quality of the Triumph outshines the Yamaha, great value bike though
I know it is a bit of a “first world problem” but I genuinely do struggle to choose what bike I like best in the middleweight naked market! I tried the ST and it was awesome. I tried the Monster and the torque was just unbelievable. The MT09 looks great. The KTM, although a bit divisive in looks, does standout in the crowd. What a time! 😅
My dilemma too. I don't like the looks of the monster. The ktm 890r is close, but I don't trust the reliability, and also I think it's looking dated. My next bike in 2024 is between the street rs or the MT09sp. 🤔
About 5 weeks out from when my 2024 MT-09 SP gets here. It’s been tempting to bite the bullet and grab a readily available base though! Holding strong! And I must be the minority here about the quick shifter. I have had 3 bikes with a quick shifter and I just don’t like using it compared to the “traditional” shifting.
It does what its designed to do, trim a few seconds off a blast from 1st to 6th, seamless thrust without the dip. It's sort of like cruise control, removes potentially a little bit of fatigue and stress from a ride, which frees up the brain to draw attention to things you otherwise may not notice.
I feel like I only use it about 20% of the time. But I’m super super glad I have it. It comes in handy if I want to hold my phone with one hand and record nice scenery.
Nice review & it's a great bike but why can't Yamaha make the MT range look half decent. It looks better than the last one but that's really not hard is it. It just doesn't flow. I don't know who in the Yamaha design department is coming up with this look & then which manager is signing off on it. It's looks aren't a deal breaker for me but equally it's not a selling point at all either. If I bought one, it'd be despite them not because of. Obviously looks are subjective but I'd really struggle to part with 10k, which is a great price, if I'm not really sold on the looks.
CBR650R is a good street bike, easy to ride, with smooth linear power. The leg ergos are a bit cramped imho, due to the accessible lower seat height. Obviously, an inline-4 649cc won't punch like an 890cc triple, but that depends on your riding style.
I'm stuck between this or an R1... Very different bikes I know but I feel like I should just get the R1 as I won't have the opportunity to buy a brand new one in a few years and the price of them is probably going to go nuts like the R6! So maybe R1 now, MT09 later (don't want MT10, prefer the triple sound for the naked bike).
I'd love to buy one, been waiting since I first saw reviews of it. They just don't have any available in my area, let alone in the midnight cyan color I'd prefer.
I am considering to buy this bike but I am not sure if I can live with the looks of it. The front looks so weird to me and the colors are strange too. Why don’t they design something beautiful like a Ducati where you enjoy to look at it. I owned the Yamaha XJR 1200 in black. That was a beautiful bike. Maybe the MT09 looks better in real life but when I see the footage it’s quite ugly, in particular the front.
Honestly, its no exaggeration that this is one of the best motorcycles in history

@@richieclean Rob’s got the new 401 Svartpilen on long term test, considering something smaller for the fleet, although, I might also downsize the fleet and buy the 801 🤫
Ordered mine yesterday. Waiting for the delivery.
Hey MotoBob! I have a question. Between this MT09 2024 & the current XSR900 (not the GP), which one has more aggressive ergonomic riding position? Or which is more relaxed?
Thank you.
Up right position or more relaxed position is very important to know for me. Thank you.
I heard from another youtuber that xsr900 is the sportier version
I agree, the MT-09 has steadily got better looking and this is the best one yet. Great bike. Good enough to tempt me away from my Striple 765R... probably not. Thanks for another great review
It all depends on what the bike is for. For mostly city raiding, Yamaha is way more comfy...although new changes to the handlebar could possibly make it worse, similar to striple.
@@HosuyakawaYazuki- Agree. I think the changes to the riding position are clearly aimed at the Street Triple. For me, the quality of the Triumph outshines the Yamaha, great value bike though
@@scottbailey5644Quality 😂
No want buy that bike except you
YAHAMA always sold and the Big 4 japanese brands are richest motorcycle in the world.
@@scottbailey5644idk man British engineering and quality don't really go together.
What turns me off front the street triple is the reliability. Scares me. Yamaha reliability is priceless
I have a 2014 fz09 I wouldn’t trade it for the world best bike ever!!!
Everything is fine, nice, good, sweet. The bike is cosmetic so far nothing else 😊
Also I’d prefer last years wheels with that splash of orange but that’s an easy fix
i have 1.90m, do you think this new 09 is good for tall guys?
@@justinoompa3450 Just don't make a habit of that. Too many auto drivers doing such things.
I really want one but couldn't find one in my budget. So I got an 09 monster 1100 instead. Someday I'll have another yammerha
I have the XSR 900 first gen and I can not imagine a better engine than the CP3. Moreover, it is very economical. I do 60mpg.
Keep that first gen XSR900 forever man. Probably one of the coolest looking bikes ever made and I'm still trying to get my hands on one.
@@DB-sd3cw thank you! Love your comment.
Yes the headlamp design is diffrent quite alien looking, and im freaking looking it 👌
Nice Review! ❤ Please Tell me what shoes are that on the Quickshifter part? 😊
Vans Sk8-Hi MTE-2
In another shot (while riding), he has on Furygan shoes, it seems. French brand. I have a pair and they're great.
Thank you! Can i ask you wich Model you own?
Could this and the 10 be the new VMAX?
90% of the reason why people are hesitant about buying this bike just because of its headlight design.
I like the design 🙈
It looks quite awesome on fotos too 👍
Fact!! 👍
What about luggage capability for touring on this particular model MT09 is this bike a one trick pony ?
I got a gen 2 that’s flashed. Is it worth it to upgrade?
Definitely
Don’t know -MT09 or CBR 650R .. what would be your thoughts?
the cp3 is a masterpiece
CBR650R is a good street bike, easy to ride, with smooth linear power. The leg ergos are a bit cramped imho, due to the accessible lower seat height. Obviously, an inline-4 649cc won't punch like an 890cc triple, but that depends on your riding style.
I would buy this if the headlights were that of the 2020 model. They were Shit hot!
Watching this from my MT09
Is it euro5 or already euro5 plus
I'm stuck between this or an R1... Very different bikes I know but I feel like I should just get the R1 as I won't have the opportunity to buy a brand new one in a few years and the price of them is probably going to go nuts like the R6! So maybe R1 now, MT09 later (don't want MT10, prefer the triple sound for the naked bike).
Sounds like a fantastic bike, not crazy about the Sonny Crockett wheels
Is it me or does it look smaller than the previous model?
I'd love to buy one, been waiting since I first saw reviews of it. They just don't have any available in my area, let alone in the midnight cyan color I'd prefer.
Is this a good first bike for city ?
No.
Just got mine brand new from the dealer, 0 miles and a good deal on it LFG
My wife's just arrived and nearly ready, I'm waiting on my SP to arrive.... Fantastic review mate.. 👍
Please tell me you’ve done a motobob vlog bud on this mate? I love those vlogs.
Best looking mt 09 so far
Does it handle better than a CBR500R?
Ofc
@@dilly2023 do you ride? Have you ridden a cbr500? Have you actually ridden an fz09?
How tall are you? Do you think it will fit nice to someone at 6’4’’ ??
I'm 5"11 and set on an older model and I felt like giant on a kids bike. I interest if the size increased.
Can you get the SP without the keyless ignition nonsense?
Can’t decide between this and the Tracer 9.
Tracer is a touring bike & much heavier, so it depends on your riding style.
I think they look great. Love them.
Hope there's an XSR 900 SP...pls!!!
i hope mt-07 got cool redesign like this in the future
