Everything you said is what I tell newbie techs. The most solid advice I got was don't be afraid. Adversity makes a stronger tech

Best advice, focus on side jobs. Use the dealer or shop as a access point for parts and tools (use the discount). Don't be a slave to the industry. Be your own boss. Side job, side jobs. And read, read.

Attitude is everything. If you show up to work with a good attitude and a willingness to listen and learn, you are far more valuable than the tech who has a bad attitude but “knows everything”.

Man your first point is EXACTLY why i started up as an independent tool dealer. I love selling brands like VIM, Astro, Lang, and Lisle. I try to only let new guys buy one thing at a time. And sell at a lesser markup. Yes i offer Koken, Mayhew, etc. But to be able to offer Channelock, VIM, and KT Pro and still offer service and warranty but not bury these guys in early debt. And push them towards tools and not a $15,000 tool box off the start. Totally agree!

And I’ve been with Toyota for 4 months now and I’ve been learning alot and I still get nervous to ask for help but I still ask because I rather take a longer time getting it right than messing up I’m still a noobie lube tech 🤧 I love it tho is fun but sometimes can be stressful

The key of success is never stop asking questions, even if you done the repair before somewhere else still ask questions. Have people previously promoted after a year of what your doing or are there still mutiple ppl with more time doing what your doing and not moving up?
