    When Craftsman pooped the bed they left a vacuum in the tool market harbor freight is filling. For the diyer trying to get their car back on the road for work Monday morning to go to work HF is a blessing. Not everyone can afford to wait for a shop to get to your car or can’t afford to have it done by a shop.

    i got the icon flex head metal handle 3/8 9' cause i didnt wanna pay tool truck prices for a 9' when i usually use the 13' mac anyways. and honestly its pretty good. definitly heavier and a thicker head than a mac but it actually feels pretty good for the price. i think you could buy a set of those ratchets and not really miss a tool truck one 90% of the time. the 10% being when the difference in head size matters. the back drag and gears feel good enough

    I love my icon comfort grip ratchets.i got the flex head ones 1/2, 3/8, and 1/4 drive. Break rusted on hardware all over my car and no failure on their part.

    It isn't the back and forth wiggle that makes me leery about a tool box build quality. Every drawer will wiggle like that, because the rollers are moving in and out. What concerns me is how much the drawers will flex or bend when you press up with one corner and down with the other.

    If anyone needs a heat gun..i have the Hercules one and use it doing commercial refrigeration. 2.5 years now still running strong. Ill leave it running in a case with iced up coils and hotbox it for hours to thaw at a time. I was very pleasantly surprised its lasted this long and still working perfect.

    Air tools and plug in electric seem to last forever, and are cheaper to buy. Seems like the battery stuff wears out and costs you in batteries over time. Price to be paid for convenience and speed, so I think pneumatic tools are never truly going to go away.

    I live in Canada. We don't have any thing that even comes close to harbor freight and I often find myself looking at their website and contemplating driving across the border just to buy tools. The closest we have is princess auto and they're more of a cheap Chinese importer that just happens to sell tools and cheap knick knacks. The tools there are dollar store quality, disposable after one use, absolute crap.
    If I ever had to buy a new toolbox I would 100% drive to Buffalo just to buy one, even though I'd be paying 50% more once you figure in duties and currency exchange.

    I tried the Pittsburgh extractor set and didn’t have very good luck with it. The design slips when you have a stuck bolt.

    • @LetsDriftMedia
      @LetsDriftMedia  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m curious how the icon extractor set quality is, I’ve used cheaper type extractors and it is not fun when the extractor snaps in the stud you are trying to remove.

    the US general boxes are less then ideal for a shop setting. they are very shallow the extra 3 inches of depth makes a huge difference and its pretty disgusting already how shallow they are both. I got the icon 73in for my work and it is a nice toolbox all in all, but i do wish it was deeper.

    • @LetsDriftMedia
      @LetsDriftMedia  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Depends on where you work. Me personally have always worked mainly out of my service cart which is a harbor freight cart so my fancy snap on box just sits In The corner 90% of the time.

    • @JrSpitty
      @JrSpitty ปีที่แล้ว

      @LetsDriftMedia I am heavy line at a RAM truck center. I work out of a 5 drawer cart mainly. The big box just stores all my extra testing equipment. Sockets I don't normally use on a day to day etc. All I work on is once again RAM trucks. I see the same 3 engines all day long that use the same 5 fasteners etc.
      If you want to be heavy line you need the extra space. It's gonna store all your diag equipment or SHTF tools.

    • @LetsDriftMedia
      @LetsDriftMedia  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that may depend on the brand you work for then, I did plenty of heavy line working at Toyota as well as BMW and like you kept my daily used tools in the cart and just stored my once in awhile or random time tools in my main box But i would have to disagree still at the point saying you need the extra space to do heavy line, I have a 73"' snap on and have yet to fill it up and was able to do anything and everything when I worked at the dealer. @@JrSpitty

    You do understand that Harbor Freight owns almost all the brands they sell, which are contract manufactured to their negotiated specifications? That includes Pittsburg, Bauer, Icon, AMES, etc. Virtually all of their products are made in China - that was the fundamental concept the firm was built on. Not saying that’s bad or good, but caveat emptor - let the buyer beware! I have a lot of their products, and many of them have been pretty good.

    • @LetsDriftMedia
      @LetsDriftMedia  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Myself as well as any other mechanic I've met is not concerned with where the tool is made, We just want something that works for the job and is not going to cost us an arm and a leg to purchase.
