Vivian Campbell on guitar, original Dio guitarist on the 1st 3 albums - 'Holy Diver' (1983), 'The last in line' (1984) and 'Sacred heart' (1985)... He was fired in '85 for demanding a higher pay (which may have been a mistake, considering Dio declined without him) ...The original Dio band seen here was: Ronnie James Dio, Vivian Campbell, Vinny Appice (drums), Jimmy Bain (bass) and Claude Schnell (keyboards) Campbell was in the North Irish band Sweet Savage in 1979 before joining Dio in 1983... He toured w/ Whitesnake in 1987/ '88 and then, formed a new band Riverdogs ... In 1992, Vivian Campbell joined Def Leppard on guitar after the 1991 death of original guitarist Steve Clark... and he is still w/ them. After Ronnie James Dio passed away in 2010, Vivian Campbell reunited w/ Dio members Vinny Appice (drums) and Jimmy Bain (bass) in 2012 to play Dio songs as Last in Line w/ singer Andrew Freeman... They have released 3 original albums to date. Bassist Jimmy Bain passed away in 2016 and was replaced by Phil Soussan (bass)... They do tour when Def Leppard is not on the road.
Same here. Seen Dio many times clubs and arena's around the philly and baltimore area. Miss those days. Got to shake his hand once at a show. Class act. Peace out 🤘
It’s definitely Vivian here. He was an absolute beast of a player in Dio channeling the aggression and fire of his Rory Gallagher and Gary Moore influences. His role in Leppard is somewhat different where he plays some tasteful guitar and sings great BVs. Personally I was delighted to see him getting back to his heavier roots with Last In Line and finally letting rip again after all these years.
Oh yeah!!!! MORE DIO!!!! Check out "Don't Talk to Strangers" from his solo catalog. Also check out some of the stuff he did with Rainbow, like "Man on the Silver Mountain", "Long Live Rock and Roll", or "Gates of Babylon".
Honestly, the Holy Diver album, in my opinion, was one of the best ever. Every song is awesome. In addition, there is an old live version of Man on the Silver Mountain when he was with Rainbow where he does some incredible vocal solos. But one of my all time favs by Dio is Last in Line if you have not checked it out yet and since it seems you are really enjoying Dio check out the documentary on him. It's really good.
Vivian is a Northern Irish guitarist who went on to play with Def Leppard in 1991. He worked with Thin Lizzy and Whitesnake too. I need to check out Dio's first band Elf. Dio founded Elf in 1967 he was also a bass player. Enjoyed the vid Stephen great job once again. Dio is a rare breed he has a god given gift you are correct. He was called the man with the golden throat in some circles.
All correct except Vivian never played with Thin Lizzy.Aside from Dio, Whitesnake, Riverdogs, and Def Leppard, he now has a band called Last in Line, that he performs with when the Def Leppard schedule allows. He also is in remission from cancer.
@@RhonJohns seems you're right about that. Never heard that before. Interesting. Also forgot he was the guitarist for Shadow King, which I believe was a project with Lou Gramm.
The guitarist is Vivian Campbell. He's still active too. His day job is playing alongside Phil Collin in Def Leppard, and his pet project is a band called "Last in line". Last in line is a band he formed with Vinny Appice (he pronounces it App a see and is the younger brother of the late Carmine Appice who pronounced it A piece lol), Jimmy Bain on the bass (both featured in this video) and a singer (Andrew Freeman, and he nais Dio's vocals) who's been in ugly kid Joe and the Offspring. They originally formed to tour & play music from the first three albums that they all played on. Then they decided to write some original music and recorded an album of kick ass rock that sounds nothing like Dio lol. Then while playing on a rock cruise Jimmy Bain passed away in his sleep one night. They then recruited former Ozzy Osborne bassist Phil Sousan and recorded a second album of kick ass rock that sounds nothing like Dio. They've since recorded a third album featuring a pretty good cover of the Beatles "A day in the life". The album is good, but I think the first two are better. All in all, all three albums are worthy and they continue to play the classic Dio material live along with the original material. Excellent band both live and on record, and if you like this, you should "definitely" check them out. Peace out Brotha 👊😎🎸
Vivian Campbell such a great guitarist, was with DIO, Whitesnake and now with Def Leppard, he took over in Def after the great Steve Clark passed in 1991.
You’ve got a check out the live version of mistreated from the Munich 1977 show, really showcase is not only Ronnie’s incredible vocal range, but the entire group is just so tight and everybody is just so good at what they do. Thanks for the video.
Vivian Campbell on guitar - he's been in Def Leppard for 33 years now (also Whitesnake). Vinny Appice on drums (also Heaven & Hell) - he's the younger brother of Carmine Appice (King Cobra, Blue Murder).
Note the "Rainbow" in this song is a reference to Ritchie Blackmore's band Rainbow which Dio was the singer, but was fired. And the song is about the sadness of being kicked out of his previous band.
In Metal, Dio was the shortest and Peter Steel was the tallest. We lost them both within 2 weeks of each other, I think. Both were Very Good. They will both be missed.
Ronnie was cool. I saw him once when he was with Sabbath. Don’t ever forget-the mob rules. lol. Vinnie’s last name along with his brother Carmine is pronounced App a see.
I saw Ronnie back in his early solo days, like this show is, and it was amazing. I'm sticking to my believe that he was born with a 3rd lung tucked somewhere. Yes, he was short, about 5'3", 5'4", but he had the most badass metal voice of all time. And you see him going up to the crowd and shaking their hands at the beginning AND end of the song? From what I understand, he was a very approachable, down to Earth kinda guy. I never met him but it would've been a pleasure to meet such a nice, hard rockin dude!! The days of being right up to the stage's edge, two feet away from legendary rock stars are sadly over - for this generation. I was one of the fortunate ones.🤘🤘
My all time favorite singer from the first time I heard his voice. I was fortunate enough to see him live in 1986 (Vivian was just replaced) and once in the 2000's with Heaven & Hell, both amazing shows!! His command of an audience is legendary, and Vivian Campbell plays one of my favorite guitar solos in this great song. RIP RJD
Lmao...65yr old here again.. Just listened to this last night, Hubby Huge Dio fan...had nice night out by our outdoor fire pit wine and S'mores with neighbors ❤❤😂LOL 😊
I saw DIO for the first time back in January of '86, with Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force as the opener. Ronnie James Dio never disappointed his fans. I was also extremely happy to see Yngwie as he was an up-and-coming guitar prodigy at that time.
Saw him once going into my work in the SFV - he was tiny but he was in full black leather (summer mid-day) looking like he just got off stage. POWER PACKING VOICE R.I.P. RJD
Jimmy Bain on the bass RIP. There are two bands of former Dio members doing Dio songs. Dio Disciples with Simon Wright, Craig Goldy and Scott Warren. They also had Rowan Robertson and Vinnie Appice as touring members. The other band are Last In Line featuring Vivian Campbell and Vinnie Appice. Claude Schnell and Jimmy Bain was also members earlier. Check out Black Sabbath - Dehumanizer from 1992. Very heavy. Songs like After All (The Dead), Master Of Insanity and Letters From Earth. Dio followed it up with his 1993 Strange Highways. Also very heavy. Hollywood Black and Jesus, Mary & The Holy Ghost.
This was my favorite Dio song. I was in my mid 20's when this came out and in full Metal mode.😂😂 If I could choose any voice, it would be Dimash. I can't carry a note either. BUT Ronny James Dio would be my close second with Dan Vasc voice third. Seems like only yesterday when this was mainstream music❤ Great reaction.👍 🥰🥰Hugs from a Canadian Dear🇨🇦
The voice of "Sword And Sorcery" metal! I saw him on this tour and before he sang this he made a disclaimer that it had nothing to do with the band he was formerly in (Rainbow) of its leader, Ritchie Blackmore.....but I don't think any of us believed him! Needless to say, he/they kicked ass!
Note in the music video version there is a guy following a girl. He is palyed by Rowan Atkinson best know for his comic roles of Mr Bean and Black Adder.
Starting out as a bass player, I listened to a lot of Rainbow (and of course, Deep Purple). Rainbow had way too many lineup changes in very short spurts, and I was never a hardcore Dio fan. I preferred Joe Lynn Turner and Graham Bonnet...and on drums, the great Cozy Powell. And I learned more licks, early on by emulating Roger Glover.

Good reaction. As usual, you’re bringing the goods. Like AC-DC, Dio has great music but the lyrics are too satanic (plus the devil’s sign he keeps throwing). As a man of integrity, I have to be honest about what I let into my eyes and ears. Spiritual warfare is real. The music’s a banger on this one, the lyrics fall flat for me. God bless and Metal on!

It's insane how someone so good on record sound so good live only a few can do it, Dio, Steve Perry, Elvis.....
Absolutely!! 💯
1983 best Dio lineup. RIP RJD. This was Dio's voice peaking, he was 41 at this point.
I believe the guitarist was Vivian Campbell. He’s been the current guitarist for Def Leppard since 93ish
