10 year GD owner here, the newer STI's are nice but I like the lighter and smaller boxy body better. Only way I'd get rid of my mine would be if the opportunity to buy a rust free one comes up.
I had my GD for 15 yrs, now my VA for around 6 years. But I went WRX to STi. It's hard to be better than the VA STi is right out of the box, and I've driven every wrx iteration there has been minus the new VB.
Thank you for all the Subi content! I finally got my STi with me as well. And while it’s not a GD, or an Impreza at all, the Fozzy STI is awesome too. Thank you again for taking us all with you on this journey

A great video Tanner. My 2020 Bluebaru #2 STI is@ Irvine Subaru Ca. I took the wife out to dinner last Thursday night and popped a check engine light a week after my oil change. I took the #2 Bluebaru in Friday morning, I'm in a Subie Ascent loaner. A catalytic converter internal failure @62K. Subaru covered the part. You ever seen a catalytic converter failure that early? Have a great week brother. Subies forever.
My first car was a bugeye. I lost it in an accident after a year. It wasn’t my fault and I was PISSED about it. I then moved to a manual mustang that i could barely drive straight with. And 9 months later I got my lovely Hawkeye. It is ridiculous how much you miss a GD and especially your Subaru friends.
In Cobb the fuel level voltage will be around or under 0.4V if the tank is truly full and your level sensors are working correctly, hopefully this helps diagnose the gauge
when i installed my cobb down pipe this summer, I tried everything and still had exhaust leak. Cobb informed me that you need there small adaptor when installing it to the cat back.
This Hawkeye is getting there! I like the Defi gauge idea. Every time I see that stock clock, I think a Defi gauge pod belongs there. Also, I daily drove my GD wrx for 10 years. 8 years later still wish I never sold it
To wash you car when it's that cold this is what you need: - Electric Powerwasher (Stihl makes a couple nice ones) - Warm Water (not hot) spigot/sink access. - A good waterproof/resistant duck suit and dishwashing gloves - wash mitt - 2x chamois cloth for drying quickly. 1 for outside, and 1 for jams/wheels Now you can pull a car to the side of your garage (try to not ice your driveway) and give it a thorough rinse. 99% of dirt and grime can be wiped off with just warm water and agitation with the wash mitt, no need for suds (commonly misused and quickly destroys wax/protection for paint). It's almost a necessity if you want to not have a perpetually salted car in the midwest. The only guys I know that do this are also the same guys that sometimes get MORE for the cars upon resale because they are showroom perfect. So it's a matter of OCD level, but I've given ya the method.
First time Subaru wrx owner here, Definitely gonna miss you working on the VB, but I’m definitely appreciating more the older models and your work under the hood. Learning a lot from your content. I’ll take those blue AFD fender flares from the VB if you’re looking to sell!

I’ve had my 06 for 11 years now. My gas gauge does the same damn thing. At this point I’ve just learned to live with it. And for whatever reason every 5-7 tanks it’ll read full and then go back to the 3/4 tank thing. If you figure that out let me know where I should look lol

I don't like those car washes as much as anyone else that really cares about their paint, but my friend's the location manager at one literally 1 minute up the road from where I live. Unfortunately I can't take my car through it because of how low the chassis braces sit in combination with it being slammed. He does the homie hookup though, and he's really into detailing. My old man got a suspiciously cheap 14 Outback earlier this week that kinda sounds like it checks out from how he described it, but I know little about it and he won't pick it up till Sat. It's also good he bought it when he did on Mon, cause apparently the trans in his truck started slipping bad this morning, a new issue on top of the variety of other reasons he was told to sell it last month. It's tough to say with him cause he's got about a 50/50 lemon record, I'll have to see it for myself but it's currently colder than a witch's tit this week so... might take a warm day to really look at it. Anything notable to look out for with those specifically?

@@ineedanasprin3172While similar, no doubt, the WRX swap is the cheaper due to the electronics and other systems that the na and WRX do not have(avcs, etc), and the Sti does.
When I had a passenger exhaust leak myself, I was going insane trying to hunt it down until I figured out it was where my header meets the up pipe. It wasn’t sealing flush for some reason. Maybe that’s what you might have. Cheers from the east coast brotha!

06 STi owner checking in… 160k miles original owner, very similar to your mileage. Love the car still. Lots of creaks and noises but it is part of the charm. Paint on roof and hood scoop is peeling off :( It is burning 1 qt per 1k miles with blow-by though, so probably will get a new short block at some point. Only way I would trade this is maybe for a similar condition 05 STi or one of the special JDM versions :)

hey tanner! still having that issue with not being able to maintain fuel pressure under boost after relocating the battery and adding a radium surge tank. the o rings are seated on the pumps; we haven’t been able to diagnose the issue since November 2022 and i was hoping maybe we could touch base and try to get to the bottom of this! we met by the la fitness a while back, i had the Hawkeye with process west intake & rotated set up
Oh yeahhhhh I remember! What’s your fuel pressure dropping down to under boost? I’m assuming you’ve got a gauge or sensor to be able to monitor while driving?

The gd chassis is my second favourite chassis, but the gc8 is undeniably the best chassis, when they become legal import a 2000 gc8 wrx, like a bugeye but better in every way
It's the lightness. They are so light. It just makes them unbelievably fun. The GD/GG also went for a bit more comfort and feels floatier and less planted to me as a result. Not that mods can't fix that.
Hey tanner and folks! I have this quite strange problem with my sti swapped 03 forester and could really use some help. So my front left and rear right tires go stuck every once in a while. The car has torsen r180 locked diff and dccd controller. When I try to rock it forwards and backwards I can only get it to move under hard throttle. I’m assuming either tyre could be stuck and it’s affecting the other tyre aswell? I have just replaced the front calipers so could the problem be my handbrake drumm? The dccd controller ain’t also working properly but I understood that if it goes into fault mode, it automatically sets the locks open?
It did not submit my reply 💀 I just typed a book out lmao I’d start by getting a dccd controller on there. It should default to open yes, but power will always take the path of least resistance. If something is binding or locking up it may show like that. I’d check axles, wheel bearings etc
So I see you for years rebuilding engines and whatnot, but I never see you rebuilding transmission? Is that an area you would eventually like to feel out?

If you have a smoke machine, put it on the exhaust tip and it'll expose an exhaust leak easy-peasy. GD is looking great!

Gawd that 07 sounds sooo much better than the VBs, even the blue one with the exhaust. Screw efficiency, UEL headers all the way for that classic rumble baybee! When it's idling it even sounds like the engine is being a Pokemon saying it's own name "Su-bru-bru-bru-bru-bru"

We pay $2.20 per litre in Australia so if my math is correct $8 a US gallon. E85 is the same price its so expensive to run my V8 thats on e85

The gd chassis is my second favourite chassis, but the gc8 is undeniably the best chassis, when they become legal import a 2000 gc8 wrx, like a bugeye but better in every way
GM6 is my all time Fav, the Gcs are 🔥 but the coupes got a special place 👌
It's the lightness. They are so light. It just makes them unbelievably fun. The GD/GG also went for a bit more comfort and feels floatier and less planted to me as a result. Not that mods can't fix that.

Hey tanner and folks! I have this quite strange problem with my sti swapped 03 forester and could really use some help. So my front left and rear right tires go stuck every once in a while. The car has torsen r180 locked diff and dccd controller. When I try to rock it forwards and backwards I can only get it to move under hard throttle. I’m assuming either tyre could be stuck and it’s affecting the other tyre aswell? I have just replaced the front calipers so could the problem be my handbrake drumm? The dccd controller ain’t also working properly but I understood that if it goes into fault mode, it automatically sets the locks open?

I’d start by getting a dccd controller on there.
It should default to open yes, but power will always take the path of least resistance. If something is binding or locking up it may show like that. I’d check axles, wheel bearings etc

How should you brake in a newly built engine?
I do things a bit different,
First 50 miles low boost and lots of engine braking & change oil
50-100 miles some tip ins
100+ drive normal

My 05 STi sometimes won’t fill up all the way just like that and goes to 3/4 tank. Doesn’t happen all the time
