Self-determination is something that is a hot topic ever since June 5th of 2021 when it became open to all regional center consumers. It's a program that provides individuals with autism, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, intellectual disabilities, developmental disabilities and their families with more control and flexibility over the services and supports that they they need. Self-determination is a voluntary regional center program that provides participants with an individualized budget at which they can use to purchase the services and support they need to implement their person-centered plan and individual program plan.
For example, participants and families may purchase services from traditional providers or local businesses, hire support workers directly, or negotiate unique arrangements with groups and individuals and their communities.

Can you get Ihss and west side regional center at the same time. ?
Hello i have a question. Do I apply for ihss then quit my job or quit then apply for ihss & protective supervision? Unfortunately I cant work full time and take care of my severely autistic 2.5 year old who needs 24/7 care that doesnt sleep well, self harms and is non verbal who has 7 of the major 8 allergens. I tried working from 12 am to 12pm 5-6 days/wk then at 1pm therapy to 4pm and double therapies on other days. After cooking special meals feeding, changing and cleaning I would get 2-4 hrs of sleep nightly. I did this for a year working from hm and also taking care of my son simultaneously and I noticed my work started to have mistakes from lack of sleep and getting up multiple times an hr to stop to help my toddler and it's not fair to my employer. But due to stress and not taking care of myself I going to be putting in my 2 wks. I am scared because I am the only provider as a single parent. Sorry for the long comment. Thank you so much. So, I provide IHSS services to my son (age 12), he has SSI benefits and an IEP for school. But we do not utilize a regional center. Can I still access the Self Determination program for him?
