Forcing Samsung RS263TD Refrigerator into defrost cycle

Many owners of this piece of junk, like me, know about the problems that exist with the auto-defrost system icing up , causing noise, and eventually freezing up to the point where it doesn't work properly. Other videos address how to remove the back panel and access the coils to defrost manually. THIS video shows you a way that MAY save you that grief. TRY THIS FIRST!

HOLY COW. It worked. OMG!!! It did drain under where the bottom drawer is but it's a damn site better than taking all the groceries and the inside back piece off and doing the hair dryer trick. That's always an easy hour to burn every time we turn around. THANK YOU. Too expensive and new to set out at the curb for the trash just yet.

freezer stopped making ice and certain items are starting to melt - i suspect the freezer is frozen up - thanks for this i could not find how to set DF manually anywhere.

No (not yet anyway). Could be something blocking the drain hole in the hose or tray under the fridge? There are two trays, accessed from the rear (bottom) - one for the freezer side, one for the fridge. When you defrost, the melted water is supposed to run into the tray, and eventually evaporate.

ran 2 cycles, still have the fan noise, I hate this Fridge! Last time I had it apart, I attached some heat tape and left the plug exposed, but that isn't doing the trick either. Maybe do a manual, and then do forced defrost weekly.

It isn’t only that model…I have a side by side Samsung, model RS261M** and it too is a giant piece of garbage. That noise from the fan has plagued me for years and I’ve only had it since 2012. Should’ve known better than to buy a “discontinued” model on sale. 🙁 Not only the ice that causes the fan to make the noise, starting only after 2&1/2 years, the ice dispenser has been pretty much unusable for the last 5 years because when the ice dumps into the bin, only half of it does so. That causes water to overflow when it refills thereby flooding the ice bin and freezing into one big ice block. Let’s not even mention the lake of water that, even though I’ve turned the water supply off, leaks out every single day. Ugh!
Forgot about the layer of ice that develops at the bottom of the freezer under the drawer every couple weeks.

I have the RS26DDAPN1 and it's the same problem. Sounds like the whole RS26 family sucks.

The only thing samsung makes good is semiconductors.
Everything else is pure garbage.
LG makes the best electronics.
