WINTER Salmon & Steelhead Fishing | Washington 4K

  • Watch my first hunt for Winter Steelhead, which ends with a surprise catch! December Chum fishing finally picked up again after some heavy rain, and the first Steelhead should be in the rivers. After a day of fishing a couple different Steelhead rigs, I hooked into a CHROME Chum Salmon on my pink Steelhead worm. The Washington Salmon fishing season may be coming to an end, however there are still some beautiful fish in the rivers.....

    Been subscribed for about a month now. What got me into fishing videos is that I wasn’t able to fish for about eight years because I was in prison. I fished every day before I was sent away. After a long years of doing timeI got out and didn’t have any gear. So I’ve been watching TH-cam videos. And you are by far my favorite channel. I love your 3 to 4 day survival videos. I wish there was more I watch all of them in a matter of two or three days. Thank you so much for the content. Your personality and attitude towards wife is one of the highlights of my day. Not only do I enjoy watching the fish but the conversation you have with us is incredible. I doubt you’ll see this comment but in the case that you do you’re an inspiration to me. I’m doing good now and I’ve been doing good for about three years now. I look forward to getting off work, Relaxing in front of the TV, and watching your constant. You’re awesome keep it up. (A shout out would be awesome, my name is Miller)

    Bobber and egg fishing, It’s so satisfying. I was never confident that I was going to catch any with eggs, I usually put a beat down on them with jigs and spinners but man this year I hooked up and landed so many with eggs that I finally realized once you get the right depth you can’t keep them off. The bobber downs and underwater footage is what got me to suscribe. I caught about 28 salmon this year mixed between Kings and cohos but this was my greatest year combining the past 5 years I’ve went out. I’m 16 and love fishing. actually caught my first two beautiful steelhead on twitching jigs. Great channel Life!!! Keep up the great work and TIGHT LINES BROTHA. Good luck out in future ventures.

    I discovered your channel a few weeks a go and I love the length of the videos, not too short, and you always maintain the interest with the fishing action, beautiful locale's and your variety of video (aerial drone, underwater, GoPro) and your exuberance when when you hook up. I find myself throwing out a "Bobber down, or Fish on" when I hook up on the river near my Sacramento home. As for favorite video, I was raised trout fishing in the California Sierra's so the mountain trout catch and cook is high on my list, but those giant steelhead have to be my all time favorite (so far). Keep it up. I'm addicted to your channel. Keep doing your thing and I will be right there with you.

    You asked for some subscriber information:
    I don’t recall when I subscribed, but I have been watching quite a few of your TH-cam videos during the past month. My wife and I are moving to Port Angeles soon, and your videos are a great source of inspiration and motivation as I work out the logistics of the move.
    The structure of your videos, the focus on PNW fishing, your interesting lines of spontaneous narrative combined with your down-to-earth personality, and the way you show your delight while you are catching a fish all combine to make your videos very entertaining and informative.
    Thanks for the work you are doing. You are giving great value and I hope you are being compensated accordingly. When it comes time for me to buy fishing gear, I will look for your links before I shop elsewhere.

    When I lived in Juneau I'd troll and cast big streamer flies to totally bright chrome chums in the ocean in a small bay they would congregate in just before they entered a nearby river. It was like hooking into a dump truck - really strong powerful fish! They taste great cooked, taken off the bone and then mixed with yellow curry, onions, golden raisons and some cream to thicken the sauce.

    • @NWFishingSecrets
      @NWFishingSecrets  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That would be a fun place to fish for them! And I've definitely heard they are hard fighters, but this one didn't seem to want to fight until she was already on shore 😂 Definitely tasted delicious though! I was highly impressed at the flavor and juicyness of the meat even though it is very pale colored. And I just tried the eggs - delicious! Thank you for enjoying!!🎣

      NW Fishing Secrets usual brine golden brown sugar and salt over night and my kids like a little spicy on it so we put red pepper flakes after you clean the brine off and let it rest and I usually use a apple wood to smoke. But I have used more stronger wood like hickory or mesquite. It’s mostly up to your taste. But that’s how I do it!

    What's with the bear scatter gun??????? Remind me again of the last time someone was attacked by a bear in our state? I guess you could be defending yourself against some pesky ducks and geese. Good luck out there, seeing how rivers are starting to close down due to the lack of 2-salt steelheads. Ditch the top worm. If you do happen to hook something on it, the odds are high that the trailer hook will either get caught on something during the fight, or caught in/on the fish and cause the top hook to pull out. Happens all the time for nymph guys. You are way better off just running a single offering setup.

    • @NWFishingSecrets
      @NWFishingSecrets  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not really worried about bears or mountain lions. Just need an excuse sometimes to carry. Something about it makes you feel like it's 200 years earlier. Where I'm from (Germany) this wouldn't be possible. And thank you for the rig advice!! That actually makes a lot of sense. I could see getting more hookups, but you'd lose more fish and gear. I don't like leaving gear behind in rivers and especially not in a fish's mouth, so I'll probably just run single setups from here on. Thank you! I'll be sure to mention this in the next Steelhead video 👍

    • @EndofDaysRadio

      To be fair, there are more than just bears in WA state. There are even meth heads who I would not want to run into alone. I feel he is smart for carrying protection. There are both wolves and possibly even Grizzlies making a comeback. Mountain Lions alone are enough for me to be armed when in the woods especially when alone.

    • @Elparquito
      @Elparquito 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EndofDaysRadio Only thing I'd be worried about with a tweaker near a river is if and when the little crack heads break in to your vehicle to steal your stuff or to siphon our your gas. Past that, if confronted with a "wild and dangerous meth head" I'd whip the living snot out of some tweaker with my Loomis IMX 125c. As for a dangerous animal encounter - think you're about as likely to get attacked by Bigfoot as you are a grizz, wolf, mountain lion, or even a black bear. More than likely, the tweakers dog might bite you. I guess you live in a more dangerous, hostile and different Washington State than I do. PS. A concealed pistol works just fine as well.....AND...it's not drawing attention to yourself because you have scatter gun across your back. Just because one CAN do something doesn't mean it's a good idea.....

      @@Elparquito him carrying that shotgun is perfectly fine and I for one would welcome that. At least I would know them to be law abiding since they aren't trying to hide their intentions. Here in AZ, it's not so much the animals you have to worry about but the people just like everywhere. I've encountered bears here and in Washington when I lived there. Both times I was fortunate enough to be far enough away from them that they left me alone. Another occasion I was with a group of four people and a bear snuck up on us. Luckily, he left us alone while we screamed and hollered and threw rocks at him and eventually he swam across the river and out of site. When I lived in Washington, someone broke into my truck while fishing on the sky. I was with my two little daughter's and I never felt so threatened before or since while fishing. Not even the bear encounters left me that shaken. And usually they aren't alone but have a buddy. I tend to fish alone because I enjoy the ability to fish where, when and how I want without having to accommodate someone else. However, that also makes you a target. Since he is carrying hundreds of dollars worth of camera gear in addition to his fishing gear, I would always carry if I were in his shoes. We live in a country where as a law abiding citizen you can carry. We shouldn't try to make someone feel like a criminal or that they are doing something wrong even though they are being lawful. With that being said, I hope you get out and catch some fish for me. There aren't any salmon in AZ! Take care.

    • @NWFishingSecrets
      @NWFishingSecrets  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@romeo1550 That pretty much sums it up. Wildlife is really only part of the reason for carry, as statistically wildlife is safe. Tweakers on the other hand are far more dangerous and unpredictable. I am usually out there all by myself, and carry $2k + in camera gear and electronics with me that I have out very openly. Tweakers look for what they believe is easy money - so if they believe the risk is too high, they will leave you alone. Elparquito made a good point in that sometimes you don't want to attract attention by openly carrying, which I do believe is the case when I am in urban places. But the the reason for carrying there is different than in the country, as you are not protecting yourself from tweaker thieves, but rather more serious threats, which WILL target you first if they see you carrying a gun. That is where concealed carry is perfect. Either way, there is nothing wrong with carrying a firearm when you are out in the wild, and I believe in responsible carry and being non threatening towards others. I greet people in a friendly fashion, and no one has ever reacted weirdly to my open carry. I FULLY UNDERSTAND how some people might have an aversion towards carry, especially if they come from places where this is not common or legal. I am from Germany - where this would be considered crazy and absurd! But here, it is not uncommon, and perfectly accepted and legal. Plus I do know of plenty of Germans who wish they could carry btw 😂 Live and let live, just don't harm others or the environment 🎣

      Lots of places you can go to! What I would recommend is look up your local rivers in the fishing regulations to find out which ones are open and have Salmon/Steelhead in them. Then use Google Maps to scout for secluded & fishy looking spots. Then take a day to drive the spots and see which ones can be accessed! (make sure to bring a pole 😂) This way you will find the best and most private fishing spots like I show in the videos. If you go to the spots that people give away, you'll probably catch fish as well, but expect crowds of people as the spots are no longer secret 👍Hope this helps!! Tight lines!!! 🎣
