- In this episode we go GIANT Trout fishing for a species called “Steelhead”! These Rainbow Trout head out to the ocean to live with SALMON and grow massive, therefore this Trout catch & cook is unlike the others! Steelhead fishing is part of our NW culture, and I was fortunate to team up with some of the best fishermen in our area to hunt for these elusive giants on a pristine, remote river, giving us the best chance at a Steelhead catch clean cook…

Having grown up in the Pac NW, I love this channel. It is great to see someone doing all the things I did growing up. Steelhead where I grew up were hard as hell to land, masters of spitting the hook.

I recognized that highway and the house you were staying at. I had no idea it was a lodge! I spend a lot of time exploring the Wilson River (on my way to forage and cook at the coast 🦀🖤) and have always admired the location of that house as I drive by.
That's so rad.
I wasn't raised getting chances to fish and forage so I've spent the past couple of years teaching myself how.
It hasn't always felt very accessible to me as a queer woman that didn't grow up with it -- your videos have been a wonderful resource and I appreciate you so much, Leif!
Hey at least your out there and doing it now despite the lack of past opportunities, I grew up in south Florida ten miles from the coast and would fish all the time growing up out in the gulf or just go for a walk down my street to fish the canals, swam with Goliath Grouper and swarms of sharks and had alligators steal plenty of my catches. Once I was sixteen and was legally required to have a fishing license but didn't have my ID or DL I just kinda fell out of love with fishing for the typical 16 year old rebellion activities and teenage angst, and haven't had an urge to fish again until I discovered Lief's channel some months back (don't remember the I before e spelling rules, sorry if I butchered that especially since it's not a common name in English) same with my parents but more so due to the economy and them having to both work full time to support my sisters and I way back then, especially after they had to sell our boat.
I'm still living with them these days, but ive hijacked the smart TV with youtube to watch these videos and have helped NWFS even inspire them to get back into fishing as he did with myself. They get a nostalgic kick out of his excitement when he'd get a nibble, and now my mom is begging my dad and I to go and all get our fishing licenses this weekend lol.

Brings back memories of hiking about a 35 mile 3 day high lake fishing/camping trip in the Oregon Cascade Mountain range. Just me and a friend. We were both 16 years old. We just ate freeze dried food and the fish we caught. When we hiked out my dad picked us up at prearranged spot. 1972...no cell phones. Can't believe our parents let us do it alone. It was great, and so are your videos!

Shoot guys i just got back from hittin some big bows myself!! Started at 5am and was pulling the last one of my 4 trout limit by 645am. Best one is 22" 3.1lbs! The rest 15" 19" and almost 18". Now i get blessed with a new vid!! Tight lines 🐟 🎣

Leif, one question. How come you never say where you're fishing in videos?
He has said in past videos that he doesn’t want these awesome spots to get overrun with people and ruin them. Especially if a fan tells him where a great spot is.
I kind of figured that was the case
@@Chris-zp6eh pretty much nailed it. I wish I could share the spots(and used to), but as the channel grew it just wouldn’t be the right thing to do anymore. So I try to just show that the world is full of beautiful spots everywhere just waiting to be explored and enjoyed 🤙🏻 🎣
