- Much of the advice we hear to get started in Beekeeping tells us that Packages are the way to go but you never hear the full story. Today we're going to talk about the cons of Bee Packages and why you should consider keeping local Bees.

Came for the swarm info, stayed for the sweet transitions.
Inspired by the Star Trek Transporter. :)
Omg I was thinking the same thing xD
Teleporting into the swarmosphere!
The perfect explanation why purchasing bees from afar means destine for failure. I can understand how the bees living in their normal environment then taken elsewhere where everything's different would be so confused and attempt to search for their real home. Thanks for posting this. I don't think I would have thought about this on my own. 🐝🐝🐝
Glad you enjoyed!
You communicate / teach very well!
And I love the dissolves.

Thank you! I learned how to teach as an Artillery Instructor in the Marine Corps.
Great topic. Free bees takes the emotion out of it if the bees die out or bugger off.
Not only do you have free Bees but you have Tree Bees!
@@SecureAcresNaturalBees lots and lots of tree bees ❤❤
Greetings from Wisconsin 👍
Greetings! Hope it isn't too cold up there!
Last year was my first year I tried swarm trapping I caught10 swarms it’s super fun and easy to do
That's great! I would say you caught two grand worth of Bees but swarms are priceless. :)
keep up the good work and if you can't catch them check out a local bee club or county agent for help
Also most of the packages and Nucs come from commercial operations so they are dependent on treatments and feeding. I bought 2 packages last year and both died over winter.
Very true, good point.
Caught four swarms so far this year, two from my hives, two from somewhere else.
That's awesome! Congrats!
I'm a new beek and have a package coming but hoping to catch a swarm this year too!
Good luck with your Bees! Hopefully you can catch a swarm and compare the colonies.
Good information
Thank you for helping to spread the truth
I’m trying the swarm traps this year. Hopefully 5 traps to start with.
Good luck! We started with four swarm traps our first time in 2019 and caught two swarms. Five swarm traps is a great way to get started.
wow I have to say I am so Jealous of all the great streams and landscapes you get to experience. I hope to move (some day) to a more spacious area then NY .
We're very blessed to live in such a beautiful area, we love the farm and being there every day always creates new stories.
Check out woolie b's apiary he has a video from 4 years ago on how he knows where to hang his swarm traps with pint size sugar water bottles. How to find free honey bees so you know where to hang your swarm trap. He has a lot of how he does thing with bee.
Clever idea, if there were Bees in the area they would be drawn to that in a heartbeat.
Two swarms set up shop here in SC late last summer. Will a hive re-queen without swarming?
Yes a hive will re-queen if the queen isn't fertile, the Bees can determine this based off her scent.
Thanks Wes. The very active hive in question has plenty of 2024 mature drones and the workers are tossing out several dozen pre-mature drones/day. Have not looked for queen cells. Would like to let them follow their instincts. @@SecureAcresNaturalBees
@@devicelinkI always say "Let the Bees do what the Bees do". :)
200$ a package?? Not sure who you buying your bees from but i get mine from Bob Binnie for 125$ a package.
Don't buy anymore, now we catch swarms for free. $200 was the cost we dealt with 13 years ago.
Bee Packages are pushed on youtube because its a big money maker
Packages do produce a lot of money for commercial beekeepers. Videos recommending them are never in short supply!
