    If you pre-rinse your cappings/scrapings a few times with just room temp water to dissolve away the honey residue but not melt any wax, you'll eliminate a lot of that overcooked honey sludge.

    In Germany we use tights to clean the wax. You can stretch it over the bucket. And if you cool down the wax in an isolated box, it will not tear/rip.
    Kind regards from Germany

    if you are running out of old pillow cases, you can use paint strainers from your hardware store. probably are cheaper too, unless you can get REALLY cheap pillow cases from where ever.

    If you pour your wax on water you won't get the burnt honey on the bottom. Just add water to your bucket first.

    Very nice. I just scraped six buckets of old black comb and whatever was around in the shed. I ended up with 13 pounds of beeswax. It’s about the same color as yours. I put it in storage to do a final filter through a sweat shirt and get it in bread pan size blocks.
    I like your pillow case or old sheet method too.

      @@bot.123 It depends on the cocooning build up. Sometimes it's not worth trying to process.
      If I were you, I'd try to get the wax from using a solar wax melter. Just let it sit in there and melt off what it can.

    In our country, the foundation comb is made 90%of paraffin, so during capping, we can pull off some of the foundation ( paraffin ) do you think that the method you explain in the video can succeed in separating the paraffin from the pure beeswax? Thanks

    When you filtered it through the pillow case and it solidified in the bucket, you turned it upside down and there was some brownish residue on the bottom. Did you just have to scrape this off? I noticed the wax I bought at the co-op that I made candles with burned terribly, I wonder if it was because it wasn't filtered? Should that be scraped off?

    I'm using 100% cotton pillowcase and it just plugged up and the wax won't pass through. I even used a hairdryer to keep it warm and it still only goes so far then nothing else passes through. What am I doing wrong?

    • @theprayer1284
      @theprayer1284 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Possibly 2 reasons.
      One is the weave on the pillow case may be too tight. And the other is the wax may be cooling too quickly.
      To remove the wax in the pillow case get 2 large pans ( to double boil) the lower pan fill with some water then put the pillow case in the top one above it. heat the water and the wax in the pillow case will melt out into the pan it is in. ( you may want to cut the pillow case in half and tie the end close before putting in the pan.

    How do you get the wax out of the bucket?

    • @thayercoburn
      @thayercoburn ปีที่แล้ว

      The block of wax contracts and therefore pulls away from the inner walls of the bucket as it cools. It should pop out easily.

    • @scottmeredith6254
      @scottmeredith6254 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That might be why mine got soft this last time. Think it has honey in the wax. You can cut it with a knife now without any problem. Going to try to remelt it in some water to see if that will help make it harder.

    This method just simply hasn't worked for me. The cloth gets clogged far too easily and the viscosity worsens as the wax cools down.
    I have also had a problem removing the tiny water particles that remains suspended with the wax.
    I simply do not get how you've managed to filter it so effectively
