    Great video! Just a heads up for next time, I found that a locking C washer could be used as a spacer for the front dropouts so you dont have to file down the edges. I have around 3k miles on that ebike so it seems to be sturdy enough! As someone who built a dualhub motor ebike and used it all through last winter (Including submitting a mountain) how many screws do I have loose? I knew I should have used thread-lock…

    • @DudeStuff
      @DudeStuff  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I used washers on the first build but found they was incredibly tight when using to 2000w hub motor due to the axle being larger. Anything substantial enough to grab onto was too big a diameter to fit into the fork dropout bevelled area. Probably works OK for a 250w, 500w or 1000w hub but I've found it incredibly tight for 2000w wheels

      @MainelyElectrons ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DudeStuff good to know! I’m running a 1200w 29” ebikeling kit on the front and a 3/5kw 27.5 from NBPower on the rear. Top speed is 60mph and it gets you there quick! I dont even have the front running at full power, it burns out so often and already puts quite a bit of stress on the front fork at 1kw, looking forward to seeing some speed runs with this build!

I've successfully done just under 2000 miles on the rear hub motor and I'm starting to get a little bit of sideways play in the for example if I wiggle the wheel from side to side I get a tiny knocking noise it's literally only 1or2 mm .starting to worry me have you ever experienced this if so how can I rectify it take in take any mind I'm not very clued up lol .❤

    I use velcro type cable ties from the dollar store to tidy up the wires on my builds. My daily has lots of wires cause it has an extra brake cable that runs to my bike camper brakes, and a trailer harness for charging, etc. And two motors and two controllers. Brake lever switches...usb cables for my lights. The velcro cable ties look nicer than zip ties and can be used over and over. I still do use regular zip ties as well, but the velco works better for bunches of cable.

    17:20 I would like to see somebody one day make a pair of electric training wheels from the motors / Wheels of an old hoverboard on something like a 29" Cruiser hybrid 😊😅😂.
    It would be something like a Satyristic portable Universal conversion kit that would have a very simple bolt on frame containing battery Motors controller and wiring fully configured and ready to go like a hot swappable server hard drive just tighten the two Wing nuts or something like that but no clue how to work out a throttle and display that I could easily and quickly switch from one bike to another.
    An idiot-proof install like they do with the friction wheel drives that the one I saw just bolted onto the seatpost and I know it sounds weird but if nothing else I'll need to build one just to get the idea out of my head but I'm thinking I might need to go with pneumatic tires if they make them in the 6" - 10" inch range or whatever size those are on the little hoverboards you see at Walmart for like $100

    A lot of your build issues would go away if you
    a> had kirby kits which use a through axle
    b> and which would fit a modern boost width fork.
    QR would not feel good with me anyway when you're getting above 2kw, it would probably be fine I know but a through axle would make me feel more secure.
    qr is 135mm, boost is 148mm, it would solve all your clearance issues and if Kirby had a kit which supported a through axle you just wouldn't need to modify anything on your dropouts / fork.
    Using boost also pushes your chain line out, which isn't all that great for a mid drive since the smaller cogs which you're likely to spend most time on will be a couple of mill's further out. Ideally your chain line should be as straight as possible in the gears you're most likely to use the most.
    3 motor ebike is mad btw, I mean there is no way I could even ride that on public road even if you had it limited the coppers would immediately 'not trust it', think I have a 'secrit button' to unlock it on the fly and thus impound the bike for a technical 'review'.
    And then I could be out of a bike for months while they 'techy cops' try to figure out wth you build 😂

    • @MarvinWestmaas
      @MarvinWestmaas ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, haven't heard you mention in the video itself but that middrive is tsdz2b with vlcd5 right? Which firmware are you running on it?
      And even when you explained what you did with the wiring, I'm still a bit confused. I would be worried that the hub motor and mid drive would not be 'in sync' with each other based on a single throttle input. It's also a bit confusing, those hub motors will push more power then your middrive ( unless custom firmware and cooling mods have been done to it ). Even with those mods, controller is maxed at 18A and it can't handle more then 56v peak, since you're using a 48v which maxes out around 54v fully charged that's 54x18 ~ 972W .. but this will overheat the motor pretty quickly and you'll end up with demagnetized magnets ( and thus a lot less power ). Unless you done all the cooling mods. Or if it's a newer tsdz8, but then there is no custom firmware for it yet afaik ( nothing on endless sphere at least ).
      I love my own tongshen, it's great value for money, but for a crazy build like this I would have thought you went with something with more power out of the box, like a Toseven if you want to keep your torque input, or just a bafang if you don't mind a cadence based support.
      Looking at it btw, it could be a Toseven.. could be but I think it's a Tongshen?

      @DudeStuff you're fine with the throttle joining since I watched again and you mentioned the kirby's also use a 5v max signal voltage which is the same as Tongshen.

      Not really seem any though axle hub motor but that would be sick and open up a lot of new possibilities

    You could link all the cables together they won't increase voltage so you'll be fine

    there is 3 different motors on there ,will never be able to get them all in sync to share the load and get the power down itll be push and pull thing

      Electric motors work very differently to combustion engines, it’s actually really easy to gauge and configure

      i design and build high end custom bikes and if guaging a near enough is ok for you ,no probs ,but when your looking for maximum distance ,no power wastage, safety and traction control,effective maximum regen production,we achieve these by utilizing can bus protocols ,use this for controls ,buttons ,bms ,controllerslive suspension actuatingall lights and accessories,but hey what do i know ,as you said electric motors work different @@stabbawivagun

    Put nut on bolt, put bolt in drill, spin it around and file the nut smaller so it fits in the hole and you don't have to make a dog's dinner out of the nice forks.

    It's official you are barking mad lol but i love it, and well done great project can't wait for the road test vid, gonna be interesting to see how you balance the different torque from the 3 motors (probably adjust individual power settings )

    No offence bro but the aluminium forks are not strong enough for the front wheel torque I kno I had a nasty accident so I mate metal sleeves and fork drop outs
