It's so heartening to witness, effectively, captive wild animals being able to FULLY express their behaviour in a VERY near to natural environment, without the confines of a visiting public. I truly wish you every success in your continued work.
Hi "girls" I could watch you all day long. You are both so gorgeous with awesome ears flapping away. Glad this is happy behavior. I would not want to be there if they were angry.
thanks so much for sharing this!! it's wonderful that they and all the of the elephants there have such a wonderful home! Please share more videos like this!!
@gabohr1 If the elephants felt disturbed, they would simply have left the area--one of the great things about having all these acres available to them. Instead, they both chose to stay and "play."
@zoesgma This was strictly fun to them. Our Asian elephants react with similar excitement whenever heavy equipment such as dozers, dump trucks, etc. visit their areas. They have plenty of acres and the choice to remove themselves from the activity, but usually they prefer to stay and watch.
At about 2:30, the girls look like they are doing their bit to help out Scott. That downed tree was snapped like a toothpick! Maybe they can provide some extra muscle to get the job done! :-) Great fun to watch them - Flora and Tange are beautiful!
I think they looked like they wanted to help out in clearing the field. I always read the posts marked from ELEPHANTSANCTUARYTN. They know these girls very well because they hang out with them day and night and they know elephants in general. If they say they are playing, they are.
@ASSEMblerEX Temporal glands in African elephants secrete year round, usually associated with excitement but can be observed in calm elephants, too, and are not necessarily tied to estrus in females, although a male in musth generally has more more active glands. It is believed they play a role in olfactory communication, producing unique scents.
If they are truly upset (which they are not), they'd be upset that THEY weren't on the other side knocking them down too. Haven't you ever watched the other videos where Tange and Flora (and beloved Zula-RIP Zula) are knocking down trees on their own. They be building their own Tennesseean Savannah! :D
@2007bubbles1 No, anxious elephants sway. A lot of people wrongly think of it as "dancing" and post videos of them in distress thinking it's funny or cute. These girls are fine :D

: ) I learned three new things about elephants from this video:
:) When we back up we point our tails straight out to find out what's behind us!
: ) "These tusks are made for digging, and that's just what they'll do!"
: ) Everybody likes to watch construction going on! I'm glad you didn't have to drill peep holes like they do for people. : )
Haha I can't believe how adorable they are!
This shows , as civil and loving the Elephant is it's no knock over .
I know right?!?!?!?!?! I love Flora!
Thank you for yet another look at these girls. Is the behavior strictly fun, or is there something else going on, such as anxiety?

Didn't any of you read the caption at the beginning of the video?
Look like its angry not playing mood
Why are the African and Asian elephant have to be separated?
Poor little things
They are upset about the machine tearing down the trees.
What if an African elephant male faught an Asian elephant male.
Who would win the fight?
