nathan: gave himself a style challenge while making some really heartfelt fanart
jacob: gave us a real conversation on the personal struggles of being satisfied with your art and how it’s all a learning process while still coming out with a beautiful atmospheric final product
karina: flexed on all of us while still drawing her sexy ocs
julia: julia
Karina: worked out her frustration by grinding out a horrifically complex and deep piece.
Julia: What if...diner church?
*Hold on, he's got a point.*
Honestly Julia is amazing at flexing with out trying
Julia explaining her process had me more confused than when she started...every now and then she'd say a word I know, then I lose me again🤣
Regular compliments: wow that looks so nice!
Artist compliments: I want to eat that floor, I wish to lick that building, I shall chew that tree
This is literally how u tell the difference between who ur letting view ur art without even asking them if they draw or not💔
literally so true lol
Things gettin a little hot n spicy at drawfee
Someone once told me “I WANT TO EAT YOUR ART”. Never had that emotion ever again.
I've never related to something so much.
“Julia, draw a character”

“Julia, Draw a character”
*makes a room in blender*
“Julia, draw a background”
*Draws a room with a giant man*
Become ungovernable
Never let them know your next move.
Exactly 🤣
Nathan: "I guess we'll just have to lick each other's, uh..."
Karina: *suppressed laugh*
She has the mind of a fanfic author
ayyyy 69
@@Stormthorn67 she IS technically a fan artist

Karina’s confidence before she started hers, saying “Imma be honest with y’all....I kinda snapped on this one” was very inspiring I love it when artists hype up their own talent
I took that to mean she mentally snapped
And she did in fact snap! I loved hers!
didn't she said that because she mentally snapped? because she said that she spent 8 hours drawing and her back was hurting,i mean i dunno it just seemed like that to me :T
I really enjoyed Karina's change in attitude in this episode. Normally she seems so unsure of herself even though she's a great artist, but in this she felt super confident and proud of her own work. You love to see it.
when she said that i thought she meant she had a breakdown and i was like 😳
I can literally never tell what Julia is going to do. Just when I think I've got her figured out, she takes me to eyeball diner church.
Julia is the Hozier of the art world
This comment aged well compared to the latest speeddraw julia did
@@ThyGeep "When did you become an expert in Blender?!" "You're watching me learn Blender right now."
[beat]
"JULIAAAAAAA!!"
I always know what Julia is gonna do. And I'm always right.
She always does a Julia
I'm waiting for the day she plays back her speed drawing and it turns out she did a glass sculpture or something
Julia: You know those... [starts covering the faceless wall man with dozens of eyeballs]
Everyone else collectively: “o-oHH”
i havent watched the video yet and im excited
Clearly it's a biblically accurate diner, complete with suggestive wing-window holes, far too many eyes in unlikely places, and a whole dimension we can't view but understand exists in an unknowable way.
“We’re drawing backgrounds! Julia can’t possibly go off prompt now!”
Julia: look at the man
Karina’s looks like that one full page panel when you’re reading comics, and you know that the artist put it in there just to flex. It basically is that, actually.
Karina snapped, and her true power was unleashed
it's actually so you know what the place looks like before the scene starts, though i can't deny there is a level of flex involved...
When you're that good why WOULDN'T you flex?
Something tells me artists do that to just switch things up a bit, both for themselves and the readers. The monotony of doing comicbook work has to be on a whole other level, especially for creative people.
"Imma be honest y'all... i kinda snapped on this one" cracked me up so bad abdjsb Karina is a godess with hidden talents
These pre-drawn episodes are fun because everybody just ends up complimenting each other constantly
Yes
Yes!!! The sheer amount of positivity coming off these videos can make me smile for days lol
100% agree
yeah but then they can't suggest dumb stuff to add to the drawing
YEAH! I love the love!
Karina : "let's make Julia's life easier"
Julia : learns Blender to make a background
Alright then
*karina
@@doov3537 oops
Julia dident do any blender in this video?
@@April0503 it's reference to episode of drawing themselves as characters in fav anime... Julia was learning blender to made a background for character trope. Definitely not an easy way...
Church and steak: It was one of the original beans with Caldwell, you admitted that you told the joke in the office and felt bad because you stole it
I know it's been 3 years but thank you. You are #1 drawfee for this
Also here years later to thank you
Julia could’ve just drawn an empty room and titled it “Room That Was Until Recently Full of Vampires”
Room full of vampires as seen reflected in a mirror
@@bobgreiner9780 YEEEEEES
True modern art
Bob Greiner lmao, perfect
The vampires are social distancing.
Sometimes I hold Julia in a higher regard in the field of artistry, but whenever I watch a speedpaint, I'm taken aback how god damn genius all four are when they have the time they need.
was thinking the same thing!!
Yeah! Especially because certain styles take more time, and there's really no way to compare the two by time alone.
They’re literally all so equally amazing! But Julia does have a more unique mindset and she’s more willing to put in more effort because she enjoys it.
I love Karina's strangled noise in the background as Nathan pauses awkwardly in the EXACT wrong place in his sentences...
Julia’s looks like a weird vaguely scary dream you had once and you just feel confused when you wake up.
but then you go on a road trip and actually find the place
* opens with a cat *
Me an intellectual: ah yes. The producer.
Ha! Same.
I pop off every time the producers make a cameo
I can’t believe Karina sacrificed her back so we could be blessed with this episode
Ourvees I don’t trust you, what is it a meme about?
"im literally so bad at color" JACOB YOURE COLORBLIND
Yeah I think he gets a pass on that one
“Jacob told me the only rule was to not include people”
...
“So I drew a person”
Nathan and Jacob: "I tried some things out, idk if it fully worked but I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out!"
Karina and Julia: " *God is dead and I have killed him* "
Julia: Doesn't know what to draw for her person, draws a background. Doesn't know what to draw for her background, draws a person :P.
I was totally thinking this, lol.
Doesn't know what to draw for a Pokémon, draws a person.
Julia: Has to draw a character... Room full of Vampires
as a midwesterner, there is something in julia’s drawing that i entirely vibe with. i have no goddamn clue what it is, but there’s a definitive vibe.
It's like that feeling from when you were a kid and your family is going on a road trip and stops at a diner/gas station combo at 2a.m. and you're the only people around aside from the store clerk.
Old fashioned diner with neon lights from the 80’s vibes
Agreed, it feels very midwestern
Liminal space meets surrealist dream nightmare combo, someplace real but so distinctly Not that you end up questioning if you're awake or not.
The colors make me think "Blu-ray" for some reason
Alternative title: "Karina becomes Julia for an episode"
And Julia ascends to eldritch godhood
@@ginger-ale7818 You say that as if she wasn't already one
"Jacob told me I can't draw a person so I immediently drew a person"
rebellious spirit intensifies
The only right thing to do is the opposite of whatever Jacob says
And Karina did two.
"We're drawing some backgrounds, but ideally without any people in it"
A room full of vampires would be a great background....
Nah, that's a character!
And so it returns...
everyone: haha stepping outside comfort zone go brrr
Julia: *A person who thinks all the time has nothing to think about except thoughts*
honestly? jacob could sell the black and white version of his second "failed" rough draft as a print just as-is, no extra finishing or steps necessary, and i'd buy it.
The first one was really cool too
The first one looks like one of those super artsy church pamphlet covers
Jacobs first one reminded me of like TellTale game. Or like a classic comic book foreshadowing that the church has ~secrets~
I love his second one with the person super tiny
This just sums up all four of them so well.
Nathan: Here's some cute, nostalgic cartoony stuff that will make you feel warm and fuzzy, but also lightly impressed by my talent.
Jacob: Oh shit, I suck. Oh man, what am I doing? Oh actually, this is really not too bad. Also, video games?
Karina: Art challenge, featuring sexy OCs and amazing lighting.
Julia: You wanted me to do a thing? Here's not that thing, but also sort of the most that thing that has ever been.
Julia: You asked me to do something, so I entered a fugue state
Julia sounds like a mad scientist gesturing wildly to a board covered in red string and cryptid photos
Pepe silvia
Mateo Castillo ive got boxes full of pepe!!
BeeSlippers that's her lmao
I love Jacob’s slip up mish mash of “free-handing” and “eyeballing” turned into a completely different phrase that still has a meaning
yeah, eyehanding
"Its hard when the sky is green." I low-key want that on a T-shirt.
I love the direction the channel is going right now, it feels a lot more catered to the artist community, whereas in the past it’s been more about the funnies. I love the funnies as well but it’s also great being able to relate and compare to all of your art processes and seeing what you guys are capable of outside of doodles lol I hope this is something you guys do more of because I find it just as entertaining
I was thinking that exact thing. It's nice to see them flex their artistic muscles and inspire/teach others in doing so. I love the humorous stuff and never want that to leave, but it feels richer and more balanced with more of both.
[Edits: typos]
Same! We get both funnies and friendships AND good art talk!
same
I'm not even an artist, but getting to see them really flex and learn and challenge themselves is more entertaining to me. The banter is just as funny, but the art itself is really interesting.
Karina clearing her throat at "lick each other's..." is a big mood.
I think she literally choked on her laughter
Can we have a time stamp?

SAME LMAO
I absolutely love the sound of befuddlement Nathan makes when Julia first draws the straight lines, especially right after casually saying, "Oh, it's one of them people walls that you have."
Peak millennial: “either 8 hours of drawing or 10 hours of animal crossing”
I think there are more younger people who play animal crossing? Not to imply that millennials are old but a lot of them are in their 30s so they might be a bit busier than like people in their 20s and younger
Julia: changes avatar for people afraid of eyes.
Also Julia: immediately adds hundreds of eyes to her drawing
Good.
It's actually not an eye phobia. Google trypophobia. Fun fact, it's also an easy way to find out if you have trypophobia, as the image results will freak you out if you do.
@@VioletPhoena to be honest i think anyone would be freaked out by it since a lot of the results are body horror. but normal pictures of plants, insects, and land masses can actually tell you of you have it.
@@UshioKiss Yeah, there are definitely a lot of super disturbing body horror images in the actual image search results, which I can't even stand to look at. But on the normal Google search results, there are a few image results at the top that are just, like, a wasps' nest and some kinda seed pods or something. First time I looked it up I was immediately unsettled just from those seemingly innocuous items.
Reuben Higgins When did she end up changing it?
Hey drawfee, I've had this idea for a while: please please draw covers for books based only on their first and last sentences. Pick them for each other, or maybe get Tristan to host? Love you guys
this would be so much fun !
So, judging a cover by a book?
I believe they did something like this before - it was with goosebumps books! Tristan read a little blurb or something of the sort and they drew a cover off of that (I think).
That’s such a good idea
This would be so fun!
Jacob: *talks about how you can change the colors if u want*
Me: *cries in traditional*
"Sometimes you just gotta feel something, be it triumph or back pain." Karina 2020
Draw things that are definitely normal, a few specific suggestions being:
-A person who is definitely human
-A tree that is definitely safe to lean against
-A very cute, very not suspicious cat
-The moon, perfectly normal and not in any capacity going to kill Nathan
Hey they did normal cats!
I like the “human” one
Moon
I love the suspiciously specific nature of those second and last ideas; it will definitely give us some super inconspicuous and normal drawings.
They did this, the video is titled "Artists Draw Things That Are Not Creepy."
Jacob: "This is a fun challenge, so you can flex those art muscles a bit you know? get out of your confort zone"
Karina: " *I SPENT 8 HOURS IN THIS DRAWING* "
Nathan: this is awesome and totally going to inspire a show
Jacob: I would play this, and might even try to do this myself
Karina: this is a comic I'm reading tonight
Julia: pass me the migraine medication
This is just forty minutes of four friends complimenting each other's work and I am 100% here for it. I need some friends to gas me up like this
Karina’s 2 catchphrases:
“Hell yeah” and “I’ll kill you”
I'd argue number three is "HELLO?!"
Don't forget "I'm BABY"
Eliza Karnopp oh yeah!
Also the most “woooooow” of wonder
also "hanzo!" or "kaiba!"
Take me to church,
I’ll worship like a dog at the diner of eyes
You better not sin while ordering fries
Offer me that extra fresh
Good god, where are my fries?
No onions or rings, when the dinner rush begins

Julia: "Sometimes you just needa call it otherwise you end up overworking it"
Also Julia: *Spends 10 hours on a BACKGROUND for a character-drawing challenge AND learns a new software* xDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
"When I enter a permanent hunch" *straightens own posture*
Right? I call it gargoyling.
Best part of this episode: everyone snickering quietly about Nathan stealing a joke while Julia unabashedly continues to explain her glorious two-point perspective process
I thought it was when Julia said "it's good to see the whole process," followed by Jacob forgetting to start recording twice.
I have a suggestion for you brilliant people: without looking at their true form, please select a noise from the weird bird noises compilation and draw what you think they look like from how they sound like. Thank you please!
I really this suggestion, please persist in suggesting
Persist young one!
Comment this every video please oh God that's amazing
moyetlicious I love this! I hope they see it
Yes!!!
This is Julia's world, we're just living in it.
I just wanna say how much I appreciate Jacob's sharing his struggle to get his art where he wanted it. It's honestly so comforting and validating to see that I'm not along in struggling to get my art to be what I see in my mind's eye. Watching all of you draw from blank canvases and beginning sketches to finished pieces really helps my confidence. Thank you all of you for willing to share the process even when it's not "perfect"!!
Nathan has the cutest most sincere “thank you” my heart does a little squeeze every time he says it.
Nathan is just the purest bean tbh.
Nathan is our collective child and we shall raise him together

Nathan: "It's hard when the sky is green."
*Flashback to the Nathan-Week Drawfee variety hour when his challenge was to draw in green*
The videos of yesteryear
It just occurred to me that because they went independent we'll probably never see season two
Not just probably it's more like definitely, they no longer have an office let alone a set or a company to actually provide a set. And even if they did a season two with some improvised set it definitely wouldn't have the same production value without the crew of people.
I just got around to watching those videos and they’re so good, I miss seeing their faces
@@endersquid1132 Yeah that's exactly what I was thinking. Oh well, it was nice when it lasted.
Nathan: "I treated this as a learning exercise." [Proceeds to draw my current desktop wallpaper]
Before Nathan's was coloured, I felt some strong Lorax vibes coming from it.
The trees-
im glad we all collectively thought of truffula trees
Seeing the producers at the start really improve the videos 10/10
The producers are one of my favorite parts of any video
Little Miss Olive!!!
I accidentally disliked trying to read the replies I'm sorry. I love the producers but I'm allergic to kitten cuddles and now I'm even more sad.
Roomful of vampires/10 vampires
Drawing suggestion: Each person tells an embarrassing story from the past, while someone else illustrates something from the story.
I dont know why I love this idea so much
While reading I could only think of Karina's Cream Boy (I have to leave the stream early so I don't know if there is already a drawing of Cream boy) I now I really want this episode.
That'd be great. They could even do a speed draw with it where they tell one person the story beforehand and leave the other two in the dark, story and art wise
that's such a good idea!!! i totally wanna see them do that in an episode ☆
*YES*
"Guys I'm gonna be honest... I snapped a littls on this one"
*remembers Karina now has a knife*
*sweats nervously*
Starting off strong with “I do wanna lick these mountains” and “it’s hard when the sky is green”, I would like both of those in sticker form please
Julia's segment in this where she was describing her process was like entering a different plane of existance.
honestly it wasn’t even that weird to me because that’s how my brain works too LOL
Julia's mind IS another plane of existence.
I related to it too much 🤣
Karina's little cough-laugh when Nathan said "we should lick each other's... Drawings"
DashingHeights lmao yes i loved that
17:32
Next challenge for drawfee : draw the character for those backgrounds 😂 I’ll love to see what Julia comes up for her church-dinner .
the reason why karina is my favorite artist is because whenever she draws makes you want to submerge yourself into that reality and makes you yearn for it like you used to live there yourself.
I'd love to see a sequel to this where they make charecters who woupd exist in these backgrounds
The character that exists in Julia’s drawing is just her, but more eyes.
And katina just copy pastes for 30 seconds, not sped up or anything
yesssss
I was going to suggest this same exact thing! I think Jacob's and Julia's would inspire especially interesting design styles
Yes please!!
Nathan's: Ahhh, this looks welcoming and pretty
Jacob's: Need to get to that lighthouse
Karina's: My mind is blown by the perspective and the amount of stuff in the room
Julia's: I feel scared entering this room
Alternative Julia's: mom, pick me up im scared.
I need a “It’s hard when the sky is green.” T-shirt.
Nathan saying "thank you" is so sweet
I love that these have a vibe of like art club with your friends. Like hearing all of the support and tips and things is so wholesome. Julia being able to take away a better way to paint floors based on Karina’s drawing and openly admitting it made me so happy. I feel like Drawfee makes art really accessible for people.
god YES. i read "Drawfee makes art really accessible for people" and just... on god i started tearing up. like, the impact watching this dumb show has had on how i view my own art and the process of getting better at art is so massive and positive. i wish i had the brain power to point out specific instances of them learning from each other in real time or just talking about their craft, but unfortunately my brain is not currently onlline.
Karina blew my damn mind with this one. She so quiet and humble I forget she can pull off an 8h stint in detail hell like this
"What do you need 3 suns for?"
Skin cancer
I love that Karina always says "that's valid"... I dont know, it just makes me kinda happy 'n stuff.. if I mess up on my art and get frustrated, I can just imagine her saying it's okay, and I feel better about my skills...
Drawfee Prompt: Draw a background
Julia: Take me to Durch.
I love Durch, I go all the time
Take me to Durch, every Neusday night.
I pray to an old god, then I eat a whole knife.
We're not talking enough about how a "diner church" is amazing idea. We're running out of space for diners, just _put them in the churches._
Ok, but like, this is 100% already a thing in some Midwestern mega-churches... the future is now.
Diners fill up on Sundays from the Church Folk anywho so just save the gas
Honestly, it's already somewhat done with the idea of how Churches host soup kitchens every week.
Speaking as someone on the frontlines of that sort of thing most of the time, it's kinda easy to assume it's like that anyways.
I mean, fellowship halls are a thing. They're not nearly as cool, but they're a thing.
There is a church/gas station near me with VERY similar vibes
Nathan is such a cinnamon roll, whenever he talks I’m like omg someone hug him pls
also that background is so cool yay Nathan
Everyone watching Julia explain how she does two point perspective: uh huh yes I totally completely utterly understand
Nathan: I'm not sure if i succeded.
Nathan's piece: Gorgeous, showstopping, amazing
I love that the “separation of church and steak” joke was not only not made my Nathan, but he stole it from his friend... TWICE.
Elaborate please
@@jessegitchell8114 It's covered in the video, during Julia's drawing. Except he doesn't remember who he stole it from. That's the missing piece.
I've just finished watching a bunch of old episodes and I can't point to the exact one (I've watched a lot), but basically it was in one where Nathan explained that he'd heard that joke from a friend and then proceeded to tell it to other friends who thought it was a really great joke Nathan made and he just never told them that it wasn't his joke. And later he saw George Takei making the same joke on facebook and Nathan felt super bad not attributing the joke to his friend.
... hi spoookus :)
Fae'ret I think it might be the Dr Seuss episode but I have no idea
“Jacob I want to lick your lighthouse.”
...yep. I love drawfee
Jacob's second attempt gave me the idea of the flying windmill island from Gorillaz appearing in the world of Journey and now I want that to be a thing.
I think a cool idea, stemmed off Jacob saying "This makes me want to challenge myself to spend longer on a drawing", would be if you each spent 8 hours on a drawing for speed draw. Then you can talk about your experiences and what went through your minds. People like Nathan and Jacob never spend that length of time on anything they draw so it would be so interesting to hear how they felt hours into a drawing. That's the only prompt. Draw whatever you want, but spend 8 hours on it.
Shit yeah, I would love this!
that would be so insanely cool, but its a lot to ask of the crew! XD theyd have to really be up for it
Drawing isn’t easy.. drawing for that long is super draining, and from my experience, I start to get super mad when it gets to that point.. so in general, I don’t think that’s a good idea.
@@orangeismyfavoritecolor I wouldn't want it to be "8 hours in one go", definitely, but I _would_ like to see what a piece that they worked on for 8 hours in total would look like
this would be so awesome!!
Imagine walking into a closed diner at night, dark, cold lit only by a sign that tells you to
*"Dwink Water"*
Eggs and bacon pwease uwu
I am nearly in tears from the beauty of Karina's drawing. My eyes have been blessed.
Yall are painfully inspirational, I wanna go draw backgrounds with the textured brushes I dont have in the good program I also dont have--
I did actually end up downloading new brushes and trying this out. Turns out, backgrounds are neat and painting is fun!! Glad yall could inspire me to try something new :3
Nathan is always concerned about his results in these speed draws but he knocks it out of the park every time.
Agreed!
“I wanna lick it” really is the best compliment an artist can receive on a piece.
Karina: “Imma be honest with y’all, I kinda snapped on this one.”
I literally love the speed draw episodes so much I’ve been watching them all on repeat for days
Somehow Julia's portrait with one eye is more creepy than multiple...
I prefer one
Six legs, one eye, twenty eight fingers. Ultimate discomfort!
one eye is all she needs to see all you're procrastinating on

Glad to know Karina and I went to the same place

I keep coming back to this video because there's something hypnotically fascinating about Julia's drawing. I came back to it today and between that and the song Hotel California has resulted in me designing a TTRPG game. This is, by far, my favorite drawing of Julia's. I realize this likely won't be seen, but I wanted to take a chance to let y'all know this and to say thank you for the inspiration.

Holy christ. Everyone's work on this was AMAZING. Nathan's is so inviting and captures such a mood. Jacob's is so unique and imagination capturing. Karina's is just. Chef's kiss. Cannot be praised enough. And then Julia's feels like its straight outta American Gods and is a master class on two-point.
This is such awesome work! AHHHH!!!
Yup. American Gods. That's the aesthetic I was trying to think of for it.
Oh my God, that's what it made me think of! American Gods! They're all beautiful but that one's just INCREDIBLE
