You have a point about keeping the origin of Snake Eyes more of a mystery. It's too bad we couldn't get an origin story that showed how Snake Eyes, Stalker and Storm Shadow met fighting on the same side during the war. In the comic book, it was during Vietnam. This time, it would have to be the Iraq War.
Me too!! I want to get back in to reading G.I. Joe and that would be an extremely helpful video! Do you recommend a particular series? Other than the original Marvel of course.
Hama's GI Joe was best when it wasn't an all-out war or "global threat," but when there was some McGuffin to be aquired or a prisoner to be rescued. Imagine a movie franchise that is more classic "mission impossible" than "Transformers with Humans." Each film could be short missions with smaller teams with the larger team in the background. That could have legs and could have featured different actors in each sequel without a full reboot. IDK if GI Joe makes for a good "movie" because it is a scaled down war movie for kids. We didn't need GI Joe as a live action movie because it emulates some of the best action/war movie stories.
I would put Snake Eyes on the bottom just because I think they betray the character so thoroughly that it's insulting. I'd rank the top 2 the same, but say that I actually enjoy Retaliation and have watched it many times.
Duke could have been killed off because he wasn't Optimus Prime. Duke was a $3 toy that didn't come out till about year 3, and was frequently sidelined by other characters. Optimus was a $20 toy (1980s dollars), and a character that was integral to everything TF did.

The beginning of GIJoe the Movie is epic for sure. Funny thing is though it wasn't originally released in theaters. It was straight to video after Transformers did not do well in theaters and just like Prime, Duke was to die.
I never saw Snake Eyes: Origins, but I always kinda liked the look of the Baroness in it. She almost had a Renegades Baroness look to her, with the shorter hair, and I really liked the Baroness in that cartoon. A Spanish Baroness doesn't bother me too much, she's still European with an accent, so, I can accept it. Though a Baroness with roots in the former Soviet Bloc, is more interesting.
I wish we could get a Zartan/Dreadknoks spin off movie. Or something with a good looking Destro from the actual lore. As well as characters like Major Bludd, Tomax and Xamot and obviously a decent Cobra Commander. I mean there is SO MUCH they could do to keep a series of movies going for a long time if they just at least somewhat follow the lore. I mean it has already been written for them!!!! AHH shit, I could go on and on .
Burgess Meredith was also in The Story Of GI Joe, the movie that “started” it all. It would be AWESOME if you reviewed that one! It kicks ass (for a 40s WW2 movie)

Yup, they wanted to stick with the "bird motif" Hawk and Falcon. I liked him as Duke's half-brother, but it would've been more interesting if he was General Hawk's son
Right on the ball, the only bad thing about the original movie is Cobra La and the Lasers (although I can understand those, for the kids). To reboot the franchise, all they needed to do was turn from Vietnam to GWOT. The Jason Everman story would do nicely for Rock&Roll. The original Snake eyes, Stalker and Storm Shadow mission could be something like OP Redwings (although that was a Navy SEAL operation). But I'd be completely happy with the original Hama storyline
Just imagine Christopher Nolan being a (very) secret G.I. Joe geek, and having ambitions to make a great spy thriller based on the Cobra: Last Laugh storyline. Maybe... one day. You never know. If you give up your dreams, you die.

Agreed -- the G.I. Joe movies are rank. Rise of Cobra was such garbage. Snake Eyes being Asian will always be a ridiculous decision to me. If they were so hell-bent on not casting a blond white guy, a black Snake Eyes makes much more sense. A central part of his back story is that he was an outsider accepted in, but who very obviously stood out. Some of the other clan members believed he didn't belong there and it was wrong, and they left the Arashikage. Also, what are those giant snakes?!? I haven't seen the film and never will. Thinking about the history of ARAH in media - I was thinking about something. Thinking about "Operation: Lady Doomsday." Which did it remind you of most: "Pyramid of Darkness," or any generic episode of Peter Graves' "Mission Impossible" series? The latter. And if you only think of Tom Cruise when you think of Mission Impossible, you've missed something. Also - remember the storyline where the goal was simply to steal a terror drome, disassemble it, and get it out of a foreign country? (Because in the Hama-verse, Terror Dromes were pre-fab bases that Cobra sold to rouge nations). The smaller scale of tbe Hama-verse kept GI Joe as something that "could" exist in the real world. And, even despite the occasional deaths, was usually less violent than the "potential violence" of the TV show battles where large numbers of troops on both sides shot at each other with lasers with abysmal accuracy. There were no "generic Joes" in the comic. The team was a team. It grew, but it was still relatively small. The TV version looked larger than the actual U.S. military. For TWO YEARS there was no Duke. Stalker was the one in charge in the field. Hawk was a commander who could be frighteningly ruthless- sending the Joes on a possible suicide mission as a diversion from some real objective that took place outside the comic. Duke was a TV show invention to create a warmer, fuzzier leader. (Notably- he resembled Hawk's original appearance in the comics, blond hair and all).
Yes, a mission impossible style GI Joe movie would be way better. Maybe even a TV Show. And I prefer Stalker as field leader. You could tell Larry Hama never was a Duke fan. He barely used him.
I think bill skarsgard woulda made a good snake eyes after seeing him in boy kills world. Other than Golding I think the cast is the snake eyes movie was great.
Yeah, he has the build. When the character is a dude in a suit with a mask on, he needs to fill that suit out. Henry Golding just looks like a normal dude in black pajamas.
I would move Snake Eyes to the worst, u can't change that much and expect it to turn into a good movie about the character. It would be like if they did a Rambo reboot then they made Rambo an Android. Or Jurassic Park with wombats instead of dinosaurs
As bizarre as Cobra La was, what about the "Fatal Fluffies" from the Pyramid of Darkness 5 part eupisode? Personally I liked the Cobra La idea better in comparison.
But what did you rate the story of gijoe the black and white movie? Also, snake eyes was awful. They made him the bad guy and storm shadow the good guy, and he wears his outfit for 5 seconds at the last min of the movie. Blah.
What if they just re-did the cartoon movie in live action with maybe some more adult realistic themes in there? But basically, stay the course with it.
We will never get a great Joe movie unless they film it like "Alita Battle Angel" and "Beowulf". Thats the only way it will feel like GIJoe, instead of generic live action military movies. Endless possibilities. So until they film it properly and able to capture the essence of GIJoe, we're stuck with shitty joe movies.
I watched the first live action G.I. Joe movie was a big disappointment. The second was better, and I never watched Snake Eyes. The cartoon was the best, but I got lost in Cobra laa. Wasn't into that much sci-fi.
Yeah, I was keeping it to theatrical, but I screwed that up, because The GI Joe movie was not theatrical. I'd put it second. I feel like it has the potential to be the best version, but needed more time and development (it is only an hour long). If it had been feature length, it would probably be the best one.
Always had a soft spot for the animated film. Rise of Cobra is awful. Retaliation is flawed but at the very least is in the spirit of GI Joe. Couldn’t even bother with Snake Eyes.
The opening in the animated movie was epic - the live movies are all shit (except Retaliation which at least is tolerable and the extended version on Amazon really helps make it the best of the live action films - will never forgive the character assassination of of SE and Stormshadow in origins is unforgivable but Rise of Cobra fails on every single level and deserves to be the worst of the worst because Destro, Zartan, Duke, Breaker, Ripcord, and especially CC and the Baroness are completely destroyed and every other character is almost universally undermined because of poor writing - plus ICE FLOATS and GI Joe is a Real American Hero past, present, and forever

Yeah, they are pretty bad. Especially to the fandom
But what did you rate the story of gijoe the black and white movie? Also, snake eyes was awful. They made him the bad guy and storm shadow the good guy, and he wears his outfit for 5 seconds at the last min of the movie. Blah.
I really enjoyed the cartoon and the first two movies as cheesy as the first one was. The second got rid of some of the cheese.
Rachel Nichols... wow... but Scarlett actress needs to have natural red hair
Uh,… you forgot the most important one: Transformers: Rise of the Beasts
What if they just re-did the cartoon movie in live action with maybe some more adult realistic themes in there? But basically, stay the course with it.
🤔 Actually, something to that, hmm...
Retaliation decent
We will never get a great Joe movie unless they film it like "Alita Battle Angel" and "Beowulf". Thats the only way it will feel like GIJoe, instead of generic live action military movies. Endless possibilities. So until they film it properly and able to capture the essence of GIJoe, we're stuck with shitty joe movies.
I watched the first live action G.I. Joe movie was a big disappointment. The second was better, and I never watched Snake Eyes. The cartoon was the best, but I got lost in Cobra laa. Wasn't into that much sci-fi.
Snake Eyes is watchable, but insulting to fans. I'd say its worth watching for Scarlett and Storm Shadow
If you're going to race swap Snake Eyes, ya use Marlon Wayans!
Now THAT is a better movie. H ah a
They can't seem to make a good GI JOE movie just like they can't make a decent GI JOE video game
Apparently, there's a Snake Eyes game coming out. Hope it is not as bad as the movie
@DestroIsMySpiritAnimal Snake eyes video game should be something like Metal Gear but who's the developer?
You forgot the best GI Joe movie: Resolute.
Yeah, I was keeping it to theatrical, but I screwed that up, because The GI Joe movie was not theatrical.
I'd put it second. I feel like it has the potential to be the best version, but needed more time and development (it is only an hour long). If it had been feature length, it would probably be the best one.
Is after Seeing GI Joe rise of Cobra I never saw a single one of those live action movies that came afterwards because that one was so terrible.
Always had a soft spot for the animated film.
Rise of Cobra is awful.
Retaliation is flawed but at the very least is in the spirit of GI Joe.
Couldn’t even bother with Snake Eyes.
You need to watch Resolute!
The Snake Eyes movie is the best of the live action ones, however I consider it just and action flick, not a Joe movie.
😅 A fanboy manchild with a problem, I wouldn't know nothing about that.
Yo Freaking Joe!
You can't really rank t**** But oh my God, you have a difficult task ahead of you.😂😂😂
Yup. Not easy
