That is hilarious they treat Snake Eyes like Frankenstein from Death Race. Snake Eyes is a symbol anyone can wear the mask but not everyone has the skills.
I agree on Snake Eyes. Very cool as a ninja, adds to his lethality, but I still think of him as a commando first. And I never accepted Firefly as a ninja. Better as an urban camo saboteur. Was playing Taboo a long time ago and a friend turned to me when he was doing clues. He said, "GI Joe female ninja" and I immediately answered "Jinx."
Zartan is a member of the Arisakagi clan. He was assigned by Cobra Commander to infiltrate the clan in order to recruit Storm Shadow & simultaneously take revenge on Snake Eyes( who'd joined the Arisakagi by that point) because he blamed Snake Eyes' biological family for the death of his (CC's). Zartan went "full Stockholm Syndrome" because of the "Soft Master" who treated him with more kindness than he'd ever experienced in his life. Cobra Commander had to pull a "two-fer": threatening to expose Zartan as an assassin sent to wreak havoc on the Arisakagi Clan & subverting & hiring the "Faceless Master" of the clan(who eventually became Firefly) to actually do the deed & kill the Soft Master(Tommy Arisakagi's--Storm Shadow's uncle) & make it look like either Snake Eyes or Zartan was responsible if Storm Shadow ever started searching for "bread crumbs." Thus Storm Shadow finds the Hard Master(his other uncle who walked into Firefly's ambush) dying in Snake Eyes' arms with a compound bow arrow piercing his chest.
As much as I've loved ninjas - mad props for showing American Ninja, that and the sequel were mine and my brother's favorite movies growing up - I was never really big into the ninjas of G.I. Joe. I love it that you used the silver sword Snake Eyes figure at 41:03 - I LOVED THAT FIGURE. Not my top favorite, but easily a top 5. And lastly, I only recently (like a few days ago) found out that Arashikage is derived from Japanese - Arashi: Storm and Kage: Shadow.
Great list and awesome choices, though I'd personally have Billy above Jinx. He and Kwinn were the two biggest absentees in the classic run, in my opinion. I'm glad you didn't include Scarlett, I don't see her as a ninja either, although I wouldn't have included Zartan or Firefly on a list of ninjas either. Their ninja status was just too much of a 90's retcon for me.
38:23 He looks less of a Billy Kessler and more of a young Snake Plissken. An official Billy Kessler classified figure release would be dope to own. His figure design would be white ninja outfit, with the special feature being a detachable leg.
Ok dude, I had to pause the video. "Banzai" #5 accessory is a sun protection mask and #8 is a knee brace. Lol wtf I got a knee brace I wear sometimes. I even got a Halloween mask or two from my kids trick or treating. Maybe Cobra will hire me! 😂 I can't help it the knee brace as an accessory made me spit out my Dr Pepper. No shit. That's a good one there.Possible edits to this comment will probably ensue. Now, back to the list. ✌️
Nice fun ranking 🙂 I always seen Scarlett as part of the ninja clan, cause she has the same symbols as Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow. I havn't read much more than the 38 issues of GI Joe that made it to Denmark, but the storyline with Blind master and Billy is there, with Scarlett and the other ninjas working together.
Excellent video. Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow are tied for the best in my opinion. You can't have one without the other. I would rank Billy Kessler as third. I used Nunchuk as Billy in my personal kid/ teen canon. Billy had assumed a false alias with a code name to get into the Ninja Force that only Storm Shadow and Zartan knew about. Zartan would be 4. Slice and Dice rank 5 and 6 for me. I like to think that there's still a lot of potential for these two characters in a G.I. Joe reboot someday. The Night Creepers rank 7 for me. After that, it gets difficult.
@@DestroIsMySpiritAnimal You were lucky to have Storm Shadow v1. There's no way that I would have been able to swap heads on the 1992 Ninja Force figures without breaking them.
I don't think Quick Kick is a ninja, more just a martial artist. Helix was questionable, but it seems her training was mostly from her mom, who was a martial artist. So I don't think she gets official ninja status, but I could be wrong on that one. But if Quick Kick was a ninja, he'd be high on the list. One of my favorite all time characters
I agree with the top 3 rankings! I haven't read many comics but I love the lore and the toys. G.I.Joe is my all time favorite toy line! Soldiers and ninjas 🥷 rule!
My 1st gi joe was zap, Rock n roll and Snake eyes. For my 3rd birthday. But for my fifth birthday I bought my first Joes with birthday money and saw Quick kick and Storm Shadow and was hooked from there on. Ps I always considered the orange and blue Alley viper with a shield as a ninja along with Spirit as a martial artist.

I really liked Faker and Prince Adam myself. Something about those colors just worked for me even though it was most certainly a 'greedy' move on the company's part.

Im surprise you didn't included Ninja Force Scarlett and im surprise back in the day that they didn't do a NF Lady Jaye!!??... i should know this but i think we only got one version of Lady Jaye.... thats weird!! You should do a vid about some character's who only got one version and deserve another... or versions of characters that we dont know or completely forgot!!
Awesome video!!! We would have gotten along great as kids. My question is What about Quick Kick & Budo? You would think they’d have the skills to hang or be formidable if they were brought on to GI Joe for their respective skillsets. Samurai were the historical enemy of the ninja. Would there be a special category for the likes of Quick Kick & Budo?
Yes, we would have! As for Budo & Quick Kick, I'd say they are not ninjas. I also didn't include Agent Helix, because even though she fights like a ninja, she did not specifically have ninja training.
Those are fighting words, but Bruce Lee would probably agree. Besides, Quick kick was tough enough to go shirtless AND eat Popsicles in a frozen tundra. He takes this!
Snake Eyes will always be #1 just because he is the pinnacle of martial skill, wisdom, military training, morals, and mystery. He is an all-rounder and gets things done. But I'm willing to capitulate that Storm Shadow v2 is the #1 ninja we need in Classified figure form.
I have that hard master figure sigma 6 is very underrated and that figure unboxed (I opened mine I don’t like to collect and not open them, they’re toys dammit) goes for hundred if dollars now everyone to have caught onto how cool it was and it’s hands down the best hard master figure ever
I don't think so. There's Bushido, which is a super dumb character, but I don't recall Budo being a ninja and I did look through 3D Joes. But I also missed a bunch, so it is possible
I pretty much struck Devil's Due from my lexicon. Except Kamakura, I guess. I guess you could look at Akiko as 'at least they didn't make her Jinx.' Was she horny for Snake Eyes? I just don't remember beyond the constantly not killing him LOL. Ninja Force Scarlett has a 'big butt' but it ain't the kind I would want. I like my pancakes on a plate if you get me. I think in 92 somebody else sort of started writing the file cards. T'JBang was my favorite BY FAR. According to Larry in the letter's column Firefly was "the Faceless Master" and he had it in his pocket for all those years. Even back then, I was....skeptical. But he was definitely a ninja- a master even, although he was admittedly no match for Snake Eyes. You didn't say WHY Zartan was Onihashi's assistant or WHY he was guilty that he killed himself. Zartan became his assistant to assassinate Snake Eyes, and Onihashi knew he was a snake from the beginning. When he killed the Hard Master, Onihashi's honor was destroyed and he committed Sepukku because of it. Also, he was T;Jbang's master at some point. Both the Master and Apprentice stories (regarding SE's first pupil) have bad things going on - they fridged her in that story, and you covered Storm Shadow adequately. The Soft Master delivers one of my favorite lines in the series when he discusses Okinawa Japan and how you can't legislate hand guns in Issue 27. Snake Eyes' brain waves are the most monitored brain waves on the brain wave scanner - it was introduced with HIM in it in issue 10 - it's how we first get any glint of his past as a ninja - 11 issues before Storm Shadow shows up! Regardless, I'd like a Dawn Moreno (Italian??) Classified figure. Billy got a figure in FSS. He definitely needs more toys, bur they seem to be leaning into the Commander being a weirdo from Cobra-La. Jinx is Jinx. She's great! Storm Shadow also delivers one of my favorite lines from the comic - "The only reason to master violence is to abolish it." His need for vengeance ended with his "death" in issue 47, but yes. He's the man. Snake Eyes is number one for me, commando or ninja. He's the standard by which everyone should live (at least after maybe issue one where he suggests killing Dr. Burkhardt would be more logical than a rescue). He's the most honorable, least jealous, most skilled, has the greatest moral compass despite being a stone cold killer. He's a 'perfect' character, but not in an annoying way (to me). You can probably tell I'm a big Joe fan, too. LOL I love Transformers even more (even if the comic was inferior to GIjoe).
I remember exactly the same thing. I was 10 years old, I walked into the store and saw a white ninja. that made my mind explode. white ninja!? Until then we had only seen black ninjas.
Didn't Bushido come out first as strictly a samurai character? I didn't even know about the ninja version. I also could have swore he was portrayed as being at least part Japanese in the comics, I even thought it was mentioned he was in a relationship with Jinx.

I agree with you totally on the death of snake eyes arc. the writing felt forced, especially how they brought in 2 snake eyes characters after, hated it. Also hated to blue cyborg ninjas 😆 🤣. The new run and the transformers crossover is rocking right now
Yeah, the new run of GI Joe has been mixed. Some really good stuff, like the Agent Helix series, and a lot of very mixed, too sci-fi for me crap. I need to check out the Skybound stuff
as a huge 90s joe fan i for once have to agree with you on a lot of your comments. the pile driver was one of the worst vehicles in the entire line, right up there with the cobra rat. however in saying that i did like T'GIN-ZU it was a nice repaint of the 91 storm shadow (who is one one of my favorite versions of storm shadow). Also i know ninja force scarlet gets a lot of hate and i get it with her larger butt and lack of articulation, but she did have a good head sculpt , far better looking head sculpt then the 82 butterface version. i will disagree on t-bang and dojo i think these are 2 of the worst ninja force characters/figures. very boring and goofy looking. my top favs for ninjas would be slice/dice, 89/91 storm shadow and jinx
Scarlett ninja force and Ashiko, and Cyber ninjas, Shadowstrike, hard master, master Sato, gi joe extreme black dragon, Tiger claw, ninja bats, jhankre (red ninja priestess from movie. Ninja ku, Olympia and kirugun from that stupid deadgame comic..These are some of the missing ninja.
My mistake. Budo wasn’t part of Ninja Force. He was released in 1988 and Ninja Force didn’t arrive until 1992. I mentally lump all the martial artists together, even though Jinx, Quick Kick and Budo predate Ninja Force. Because of the Joe movie and animated series, I can visualize Jinx and Quick Kick apart from the other martial artists. I’ve erroneously lumped Budo in with Ninja Force.
@@rach4carlosBudo was supposed to be part of Ninja Force in 95. There are pics out there of an unreleased figure. Maybe thats why you thought he was in there 😊 Flint and Road Pig was also supposed to be in the Ninja Force line in 95 😂
To me there are only two Snake-Eyes figures from the original line. And that's the first two. Commando version is probably second and Knight visor version is the best. The other Snake-Eyes figures that came after were gawd awful. The third one gave him silver bifocals and made him look bizarre and then the one where he's wearing a hat and he's wearing blue just looked stupid. Just my opinions.
I like the third one because he came with badass weapons- like the three-pronged nunchucks & Blowgun but I don't need a classified version, because-- already too many damn Snake Eyes figures. Yeah, the blue one is dumb
Larry Hama stole his Snake Eyes/Storm Shadow rivalry ideas from the "Enter the Ninja" movie which came out in 1981...a year before the POS woke hack Hama plagiarized it. I have zero respect for him now that he is a rabid adherent to [CURRENT YEAR] wokeness. The writing had been on the wall for some time though as the Dawn Moreno idea was ridiculous for a long time before he signed off on the Snake Eyes movie disaster.
I still love Larry Hama, just not all of the decisions he makes along the way. The Dawn Moreno story ends up being a good read, but it does jump the shark to kill Snake Eyes and return him as a clone.
@@DestroIsMySpiritAnimal The most annoying thing out of his mouth was when he said Snake Eyes should have been Asian from the beginning...immediately after saying that Snake Eyes was written as White on purpose. If his second statement is now his permanent position, shouldn't he say the same about the Blind Master, Billy and any of the other non Asian martial artists? It's just stupid.

80s' was the decade of the ninja!

Yeah, the new run of GI Joe has been mixed. Some really good stuff, like the Agent Helix series, and a lot of very mixed, too sci-fi for me crap. I need to check out the Skybound stuff
Yeah really jumped the shark on the Ninjas. Lol
Should have kept it special and mysterious with Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes
man thank you so much for your videos.
please does anyone knows a store that i could buy gi joe ? im from Brazil and we dont have any store here =(
Thanks! If you want to buy online, you could try.... smalljoes.com/
Really cool
We need Slice and Dice classified figs
as a huge 90s joe fan i for once have to agree with you on a lot of your comments. the pile driver was one of the worst vehicles in the entire line, right up there with the cobra rat. however in saying that i did like T'GIN-ZU it was a nice repaint of the 91 storm shadow (who is one one of my favorite versions of storm shadow).
Ha. "Butterface." So true. The original Cover Girl figure is even worse
What about budo? Road pig as well ..both ninja characters
Nah, Budo is a samurai. Samurai are the natural enemy of ninjas, Road Pig is also not a ninja
Snake eyes stom shadows slice dice my opinion everyone else can have there own
Quick Kick should have been on your list as number 3 I am very very disapointed!
He's not a ninja. He just knows martial arts.
Budo should’ve been given an honorable mention because he’s part of Ninja Force; even though he’s a Samurai.
When did he become part of Ninja Force? I don't see that figure anywhere? --However, I missed a lot, so I'm not disputing
Maybe thats why you thought he was in there 😊
Flint and Road Pig was also supposed to be in the Ninja Force line in 95 😂
Traditionalist like Samurai despised technology, not knowing katana represents "technology".
Bro, same!
Any one remembers Sho Kosugi?
Of course! I loved all those ninja movies when I was a kid. I was ninja obsessed. Probably a lot of us were in the 80s
Just saying u should have included ninja force F.S.S more updated figs only because u included classified figs
I thought I got all of em. Who am I missing? I know I missed a couple from the Retaliation line, but not Ninja Force specifically
Bushido, dojo, chitty chitty bang lol, banzai, slice, dice, ninja night creeper and nunchuck. I mean u did all ninja force but they updated them
Where's Tigerclaw?
Oh yes, Missed him. He's from the really bad 3d cartoon, right?
@@DestroIsMySpiritAnimal yeah ninja battles. He's like a repaint of Kamakura
I loved jinx
Quick Kick #1. No Quick Kick, no Karate Kid. No Karate Kid no Season 6 of Cobra Kai!
😂 karate kid was before quick kick. 😂
Quick is not a ninja.
@@mamunestor 😞
@@wayigotitfigured9800 😞
How about Jin
It's Jinx at #1, and that's not up for debate!
Lloyd Goldfine!!!
@Destro Is My Spirit Animal, all the Italian ninjas are Jesuits. Iykyk
Punk ninja Zartam ...
Throwdown is a better code name
The new Jinx figure is junk, the forearms snap off easily, right under the elbow. Not made for play.
Out of the original Ninja Force 🥷 Nunchuck looks the best, too bad they all have such terrible generic names.
True. I don't even know where they got T'bang from
Larry Hama stole his Snake Eyes/Storm Shadow rivalry ideas from the "Enter the Ninja" movie which came out in 1981...a year before the POS woke hack Hama plagiarized it. I have zero respect for him now that he is a rabid adherent to [CURRENT YEAR] wokeness. The writing had been on the wall for some time though as the Dawn Moreno idea was ridiculous for a long time before he signed off on the Snake Eyes movie disaster.
He may have “orders from on high” if you get what I mean in order to keep his job.
@@dennisrounds1996 Then he is a sellout.
@@judesheckelberg5135 I think he has admitted that was bullshit. But yes, that was dumb.
Honestly, the worst thing about Joe is ninjas..... Lame.
Yeah? Not a fan of ninjas? it's not my favorite part of GI Joe, and some of them really suck (As discussed)
Never too late to be a ninja ... heard midnight to around 4am is best anyway🥷
I';m gonna do it..... ahh, I'd probably throw my back out.
What’s up with no Quick Kick on the list??
Yeah, he's not a ninja. He's a martial artist, but not a ninja. Same with Budo. He's a samurai, which is the enemy of all ninja
