  • After 3 years of owning my 2017 Ford Shelby GT350 Mustang, I thought I'd make an ownership update explaining some people's concerns, my experience year by year, and then finish up with what I still love about this car. If y'all have any questions feel free to ask and I'll try to get to yah. Thanks for watching!

Very good points. I just read a review recently that discussed this exact issue on engines failing and data clearly showed engine failure is not a significant problem. Out of the thousands sold only a few were problematic. Vast majority are very reliable. Only handful were bad.

Do you think it’s good idea to trade for the GT 350 or GT 500? I really don’t drive the Bullitt much right now and probably wouldn’t drive new one more as I daily a Miata (for its fun factor!)

    • @rjhick1
      @rjhick1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@rembo183 It really will come down to whether you want an automatic or manual. I would say go for the GT350, the exhaust alone is worth it, and its a manual, you cannot beat having a 8.2k revving V8 engine. The GT500 is nice, but for the price of about 75k-90k you should just get a '68 or '70 GT500.

      Aye! GREAT VIDEO MAN!
Listen! ignor every single person telling you not to service this car at the dealershit! (yes i meant that) *cough i mean stealership*
In all seriousness unless you are rich or a technician you should take it to the dealership to HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE if anything at all happens so there is a clear consistent record.
The extra few hundred bucks over time you pay is more than worth it as insurance.
When i take my car to the dealership sometimes I PRAY IT BLOWS up so i can get my money back and get something new off their mistake!
I got a BRAND new transmission this way from Nissan on a 370z just because i did not like the way it shifted. and i only had the car serviced there.
If i took my car to billy bobs save a discount mechanic shop or tried to wrench on it myself i guarantee you the dealership would have fought me on it
Most of the people disagreeing with you cannot separate their ego from the risk of having 40-50Grand up at risk on a car to be wrenching on it yourself.
Once again great video this helps me alot, im seriously eyeing a purchase on one of these or an GTR r35.
Keep up the Great gt350 content !

Brandon your videos were key in my decision to by my 2019 GT350. 15 months now and no issues, one dealer visit for an oil change and FSA with no complaints or regrets. I too choose to use my dealer for service and have cultivated a good relationship with the shop foreman and the tech who services Shelbys. I share many of your views - not ever owner is hard core - nor needs to be to enjoy this special vehicle.

I bought my Avalanche Gray 2017 GT350 almost exactly a year ago now (after watching plenty of your videos) and I've loved every bit of it. I did have to get the cam sensors replaced and the fuel door came loose, but that's about it. It's amazing to drive, the wife and kiddo love riding in it and we just enjoy it every chance we get.

I've never owned a car that gets so much attention. Even my mach 1 everyone thinks its just a gt with a cool looking hood and good exhaust. My GT350 on the other hand almost every car enthusiast knows what it is. Everyone is smiling and giving thumbs up and asking about it at red lights or gas stations etc. Mine is a 16 race red with white stripes. Exotic you were one the the people who influenced me to get the 350 and i thank you for that. Best driving experience you can ever ask for in a stock car.

My 2019 had a weak and failing oil pump 7 miles on the odometer. The shifter had to be replaced (before the recall was issued) for the reason why it was recalled recently. The transmission also had issues with the syncros between 2nd to 3rd gear. Ford and the dealership replaced them all without issues and I was taken care of.
No issues since. She's my daily and I love it. Things happen. So long as the issues are fixed and no issues stem from this, that's a win in my book.

Good to see you're still around. I love my 350 too. Never get tired of driving it and especially the sounds it makes. I've done the servicing myself and have had no issues at all. I was able to attend a GT500 Track Tour put on by Ford ,in Joliet IL last month at the Autobahn Country Club. This is a country club for auto racers that has two road courses and a Karting track. Was able to drive the car in a lead follow behind a Ford Track Attack pro driver . The back straight is 1850 ft long and I was able to do about 150mph before a 90 degree right hand turn! The traction, speed and braking on that car is fantastic. Also did several hot laps with the pro driver in control! That was eye opening. Wish I could afford to own it along with my 350! Also, they had at least 15 carbon track pack cars there with 12 of them on the track. Hope you get lucky enough to own them both.

Great video and agree....of all the cars I have ever owned, this is by far my favorite. That says a lot as I also have a 2020 GT500 as well, but would take the GT350 everytime. Wanted to expand on the engines. I have a 2018 and am on my 3rd engine. The first one was a gen 1 non R engine. The replacement was a 2019 R replacement. The 3rd was the same 2019 R replacement. I will point out that I regularly track the car and is driven at its limits. Also, all of my friends that own the car and TRACK them have ALL gotten a replacement engine which includes a 2020 Heritage R that just got a replacement. Generally all replacements were do the cylinder number 8. I have added the AR oil balancing lines to the last replacement in hopes on preserving the lastest engine. I would recomend this add to everyone, just as a precaution. Again, my favorite car of all time!

10:15...If it really bothers you, look at the AWE Switchpath. It's a bypass that controls the exhaust valves via a remote. Can start it in loud mode and it doesn't cycle the valves. Only downside is you need to use the remote and the car toggle switches won't work anymore, but you get total control.

One thing I noticed with my regular 2019 gt
Mustangs are kinda smart when it comes to traction
    You can turn 0f traction
And you can try to hold the button to turn “advanced traction off “
    Reguardless what you do
Once you do a burnout and turn the wheel Traction switches back on
You would have to pull a wire connection next to the air intake to completely disable traction and stability like you said ..

I’m not sure if this is applicable to the Shelby, but on the ZL1 (I know kill me for mentioning the bowtie) you can pull a fuse under the hood and it will keep the valves open at all times. I think in the 6th gen Mustangs, it’s fuse #34. Might be worth a quick peak under the hood.

Awesome you haven't had any issues with the beast. That is pretty pricey for an oil change though (I don't have that car, I assume it takes more than the typical 4L of oil which probably justifies the higher price a bit?). But I don't think they can fault you for going somewhere else for an oil change as long as they're an actual mechanic. I started to do my own oil changes, just because I don't trust mechanics with my car, I don't trust they'll put in Synthetic when I pay for synthetic. The mechanic I do trust, is super busy and it's inconvenient to go to because I'd have to wait a while.

I drive the car fairly hard, at least to the point I don't feel guilty, on the street but at no point has the engine, gearbox, clutch etc. had any issues. From my POV the car is over-engineered and other than hard track use at constant high revs, the engine couldn't care less. I do have an extended warranty though just in case.

I bought a 2012 GT500 in July 2011, and I wondered the same thing: Was this supercharged beast going to blow up? I'm happy to report that 10 years later, NOTHING has failed. NOTHING. I don't take it to the Ford dealer for service, though. My nephew, who I really trust, runs a local shop. Like you, I prefer to have documentation on everything done to the car, just in case. When I bought this thing, I told my wife, I would never sell it . . . but I'm looking at your car (same color scheme as mine), and I'm thinking maybe a GT350 is a good way to go. Not the new GT500, which is too extreme. I think the GT350 will be collectible soon.

My favorite view of the car was looking in the mirrors from the drivers seat back across that rear hump.

There are some rattles inside but its only from the passenger seat, whenever someone gets in it goes away for me.

Do you track your car? If so how often? You’re car is well cared for at dealership so that’s great as Nd I’d do the same but there’s been concerts on the internet about engine failures. What’s your mileage at this point? Obviously if it’s pampered there’s less chance of issues. (Like a weekend car not a daily?). The maintenance experience seems cheap to me based on your costs. Coincidentally I own a 2019 Bullitt but I’ve seen a 2019 GT350 for sale locally with only 100 miles for a good price-$62k. This has all options like carbon dash, comfort seats, electronics/tech pack with B&O audio. My car plus $25k for trade? That’s a lot of money- basically $65k out the door, but I’ve been thinking of this car a lot. Ruby Red metallic with grey leather trimmed seats. (A/C and heated seats.)

Wait until you get a BG Dynamic Engine Restore and an induction fuel service…. I did that on mine at 97576 miles and it transformed it! Drives like it’s new! No kidding

The oil change in my GT350 is only $105 from the dealer. It’s actually cheaper for me to get it done by ford then by myself.

With the exhaust. What I do is i get in my GT350 hit the start button without the clutch depressed then I turn on the exhaust, then I start it and the exhaust is open upon starting.

I let the dealer do oil changes so it is on them if it hand grenades. Can always do oil changes in between those required ones if you want. Love my 2020 GT350R.

I’m actually thinking of getting a 2020 GT350, as it appears to be my last shot to buy a new one for several years. Glad to hear it’s doing great.
I’ve heard that the Voodoo engine eats oil like nobody’s business. What’s your experience?

Can you address a couple things? I'm on the fence about trading my 2010 Porsche C2S 6MT for a 2017 GT350 1 owner with under 6k miles. (I also have a daily Jeep Rubicon I drive). I've heard that the front tires will wear quickly on the inside due to the camber. Is this true? You mentioned you were still on the stock tires after 3 years? Can you not open the exhaust valves and simply unplug them to keep them open full time? (I did that on my old 2017 M3 Comp and it worked like a charm to keep that great exhaust note even during startup etc.). Lastly, how well does the traction control work in wet conditions and overall? Oh also, does it rev match? Thanks.

Nice video. I finally got a GT350, just got a Heritage Edition I am very excited. This car is amazing, it sounds so much more better in person.
Why would people give you shit for taking your vehicle to the dealership? That has to be the dumbest argument ever lol, who cares if you play it safe and take it to the car dealership. I got a 6 year free maintenance plan when I got mine so I won't have to deal with any issues.
Btw you can do a cold start by pressing the start/stop button, flipping it to sport mode and then actually start the vehicle. The car will start with the valves open.
Glad you don't have any problems! Only problem I have so far is the right hand turn signal doesn't work. Not anything major.

Congrats on the HE 350! Spectacular color. I don’t know why people rip on taking the car to the dealership? I do the same thing. If they screw up the service, it’s on them and not me. Also, in addition, I think the valves close again if you do it the way you mention it. Could be wrong for sure, but that’s what I’ve heard. Haven’t tried it myself though.

    • @rjhick1
      @rjhick1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@michaelbilitz7217 Thanks, Yeah I don't know, its a dumb reason to get upset over.
I heard about the valves closing again, mine doesn't do that so it could be something that they changed over the years. I have a 2020 and it remains open. They also don't close when I go in and out of 6th gear.

I do have a question. I bought a 2016 gt350 with 56 miles on it. While driving it home, I got some highway time in and to say the least I wasn’t impressed. On the highway (at speeds of 70+) I noticed the car pretty loose, kind of like on ice. I switched the steering to sport and that helped some. Any suggestions?

There’s a valve controller override you can buy that keeps the valves open when you’d start it. Eddiex got it and made a video on how to install it. I plan on buying one for mine.

I think it's pretty obvious that ALL of the stories about oil consumption are coming from high profile youtubers who race the shit out of every mile the car is driven. This car will not burn oil if driven normally, and I'll bet you have no issues even if you wind it up every once in a while. "OOO I DROVE MY CAR 500 MILES AT 8K RPM AND IT BURNED OIL. I DON'T GET IT!"

I just bought a brand new '19 in may. Got it up to 1500 miles about a month ago. Took it into the Ford dealership to get my first oil change for the same reason you stated in this video. 175 bucks. Pretty ridiculous. I live in Illinois in a suburb of Chicago. We get tax raped on everything here!

So I am planing to own shelby gt350R and it is 2017 with zero mileage so I am afraid from owning it because it was parked for 2 years and the other question is it really that after almost 25K-30K milles the engine will blow and is it a good idea to get it the for 2-3 years the one which was parked for 2 years or not and today I found a nice deal for a 2020 one also gt350R with corsa performace exhuast and the car has almost 5K milles but the car is from another country so I cant have a warranty on the car
